New Year's Chesapeake Style

Easton Rings in 2019 with Crab Drop
Easton, Maryland welcomed 2019 with a Chesapeake Bay answer to the Times Square ball drop: its customary “Crab Drop” at the stroke of midnight.

You may have seen it on TV, along with the rest of America, when CNN sent a camera crew to capture the crab drop five years ago.

Discover Easton, the city’s Business Alliance, caught this video of the crustacean’s big moment:

It’s just one of more than a half-dozen quirky New Year’s Eve “drops” around the Bay. A duck for Havre de Grace, a crab pot for Cape Charles, and, of course, a muskrat for the Eastern Shore city of Princess Anne.
Here in St. Leonard, somebody dropped a bottle.
