Oregon, My Oregon

From Ace, Judicial Watch Lawsuit Compels Oregon, Against Its Will, to Remove 800,000 Ineligible Voters from Its Voter Rolls -- Nearly One Quarter of All Eligible Voters In the State

Don't look now, but that thing that never happens is happening again.
Paul Sperry @paulsperry_

BREAKING: Settlement of a Judicial Watch lawsuit has forced the review and removal of some 800,000 ineligible voters from Oregon voter rolls
Judicial Watch is deservedly crowing:
Judicial Watch announced a settlement in its federal lawsuit against Oregon election officials, which confirms 800,000 ineligible voter names are slated for review and removal from voter registration lists. The settlement requires state officials to produce detailed data and enforce federal voter roll clean-up procedures under the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (NVRA).
I should say that of the 800,000 ineligible names, only 160,000 are being scrubbed now; the other 640,000 will be reviewed and scrubbed from the lists later.

Sadly, this means my ability to vote in Oregon, last exercised in 1982, is probably being eliminated.

Also, Cathy Salgado at PJM reports Sanctuary Oregon Releases Newlyweds’ Killer

William Micah Carter and Jennifer Lynn Lower were still in their honeymoon phase, only 16 days married, when an illegal alien who should never have been in our country, let alone with a license to drive professionally, took their lives, as DHS described:
On November 24, 2025, Rajinder Kumar jackknifed his semi-truck and trailer, blocking both lanes of U.S. Highway 20. A Subaru Outback collided with the semi-truck, tragically killing both the driver, William Micah Carter, and passenger, Jennifer Lynn Lower…On April 2, 2026, Oregon sanctuary politicians refused to cooperate with ICE and RELEASED Kumar back onto the streets of Oregon. On April 22, 2026, ICE arrested Rajinder.
ICE is holding Rajinder in Tacoma, pending deportation. There really are no words strong enough to condemn the leftist Oregon politicians who chose to release the killer, knowing what a horrific crime he committed.

DC Cleaning "Dirt" out of the C&O Canal

And by dirt they mean shit. DC Water, Crews Make Progress on Soil Removal in C&O Canal and Continue Preparations for Long-Term Rehabilitation Work on Potomac Interceptor

  • Crews are close to completing the removal of remaining soil from Locks 11 to 13 in the section of the C&O Canal that was used as an emergency bypass after the collapse of the Potomac Interceptor sewer line.
  • Work began on Lock 10, with the majority of the soil removal expected to be completed by the end of next week.
  • Tree removal continues after DC Water received the permits to move forward as part of the site preparations for the long-term accelerated rehabilitation of more than 2,700 linear feet of the Potomac Interceptor
  • Once tree removal is complete, work will begin to construct a bypass chamber, to divert wastewater around sections of the pipe while they are being rehabilitated.

Also, good news that E. coli contamination in the Potomac system is back to "normal" levels :

Daily water quality testing continues to show E. coli levels within the typical range for recreation, with normal historical fluctuations attributed to rain, heat, stormwater runoff, and other known environmental factors. See the District Department of Energy and Environment webpage for more details.

Some substantial fraction of background levels of E. coli are due to wildlife. After all, bears shit in the woods.

Flotsam and Jetsam - SCOTUS Nixes Racial Gerrymandering

Voting 6-3 along exactly the lines you'd expect, the Supreme Court overturned lower courts who had demanded states set aside certain seats to create safe congressional seats for racial minorities based on the Voting Rights Act. The ruling doesn't forbid gerrymandering on a partisan basis (looking at you Texas, Virginia and California), and puts a large number of seats in red states vulnerable to redistricting favorable to the GOP. As you might imagine, Democrats are throwing a hissy fit. Matt Vespa at TownHall, The Supreme Court Has Ruled on the Voting Rights Act. Matt Margolis at PJM, Supreme Court Drops HUGE Ruling on the Voting Rights Act. "In a 6-3 ruling in Louisiana v. Callais, the majority held that Louisiana's congressional map — redrawn to include a second majority-black district — constitutes an unconstitutional racial gerrymander under the Fifteenth Amendment. The Court stopped short of striking down Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act entirely, but it dramatically narrowed the ways in which states may use race when drawing congressional maps." Capt. Ed at Hat Hair, NEW: SCOTUS Narrows Section 2 of Voting Rights Act, Strikes Down Racial Gerrymander. Benny Johnson @bennyjohnson, "MASSIVE WIN: Supreme Court just ruled 6-3 that drawing Congressional districts solely based on race is UNCONSTITUTIONAL. Republicans could flip a dozen Democrats seats in the South alone ahead of the midterms." At Althouse, "The justices, split along ideological lines, ruled that the voting map was an unconstitutional racial gerrymander." "In her dissent, Justice Elena Kagan accused the court’s conservative majority of gutting the Voting Rights Act. " From "Live Updates: Supreme Court Strikes Down Louisiana Map in Voting Rights Case" (NYT)."The upshot of Rucho was that, as far as federal law is concerned, a state legislature may use partisan advantage as a factor in redistricting. And litigants cannot circumvent that rule by dressing their political-gerrymandering claims in racial garb.... [T]he Voting Rights Act did not require Louisiana to create an additional majority-minority district, [so] no compelling interest justified the State’s use of race in creating SB8." Sundance at CTH, Supreme Court Rules Racial District Gerrymandering Violates Constitution. Ace gives it the red, all-caps italic, with the flaming skull (more than third attempt at Trump's assassination), IN EPOCHAL RULING, SUPREME COURT HOLDS, 6-3, THAT RACIAL GERRYMANDERS ARE UNCONSTITUTIONAL -- MUCH LESS REQUIRED BY THE CONSTITUTION, "I don't know if the southern states affected like this can impose an emergency redistricting double-quick for the midterms, but some analysts believe that this ruling will eventually flip 19 Democrat seats to Republican." A Thursday Tune - Void

Review: NÆMA – Perception (EP)
What do you get if you cross a pop vocalist, an alt-rock guitarist, a funk bassist and a metal drummer? That’s not some juvenile joke, rather it’s the four members who comprise Bournemouth-based band NÆMA. The answer to my opening gambit is a group who fuse their diverse influences into a unique sound that can only be described as nu-alt-rock. NÆMA obviously have confidence in the monster they’ve made because first cut ‘Blend In’ bursts from the speakers with unbridled belief and finds the band nailing their (bright) colours firmly to the mast. Attesting to the varied background of each member, ‘Blend In’ (and, indeed, the whole EP) is bold and buoyant, and fills every inch of sonic space.

Here’s a band who want to stand out from the crowd, discarding tired rock clichés and replacing them with a fresh approach. However, NÆMA haven’t completely ripped up the past, and fans of hard rock and metal will find much to admire in the band’s groove-laden swing, yet there’s no denying tracks such as ‘New Norm’, replete with glacial synths, have their sights fixed on the horizon. A seven-song calling card that succinctly sets out the band’s stall, Perception finds NÆMA in sharp focus.

NÆMA is a four-piece nu-alt-rock band based in Bournemouth, UK, featuring Tia Lazerri-Madden (vocals), Tom Riley (guitar), Ethan Wilkinson (bass), and Joey Curd (drums). Formed in December 2023, the band mixes diverse influences—pop, rock, funk, and metal—to create a unique sound.

Flotsam and Jetsam - Comey Indicted Again, King Chuck Drop By for a Visit

Let's dispose of this one first. Da Signal has a Report: James Comey Indicted Again in the eastern district of NC. "CNN reported that the charges are connected to Comey’s photo posted online of a sea shell arrangement that said “8647,” which was viewed as a threat to Trump, the 47th president." John Sexton at Hat Hair VIP, Comey Gets Indicted Again. Althouse finds "The two charges stem from a photo that Comey posted online showing seashells on a beach that were arranged to write out '86 47.'" ""Trump is the 47th president; '86' can mean banning or removing someone, but it can also be slang for killing a person. Comey quickly removed the post after receiving criticism that the phrase could be used to communicate the threat of violence." From "James Comey indicted over 2025 social media post allegedly threatening Trump/The former FBI director issued a video statement maintaining his innocence and criticizing the current Justice Department" (WaPo)." I think this is a chickenshit charge. On the other hand, Comey deserved to be indicted for a large number of crimes related to Russiagate, and his out of the gate obstruction in Trump's first term, but alas, the statute of limitations on those crimes has mostly passed. I predict this prosecution fails, but the process will be some measure of just punishment.

Matt Margolis at PJM thinks The Way Bongino Flushed Out Deep State Leakers Was Pure GENIUS. Or fairly obvious. Give each person a different set of facts, and see who which set gets leaked. A full-throated defense of Pam Bondi from LHGrey @grey4626, "I have been asked for my opinion about Pam Bondi...so here it is... Pam Bondi, in my opinion...was deployed as a precision instrument in a theater of institutional warfare where the Attorney General’s role is less about courtroom theatrics and more about reshaping the Department of Justice’s internal architecture from within a bureaucracy engineered to resist exactly that. To mistake her fifteen-month tour for failure is to misunderstand the architecture of power itself..." I don't know that I agree, but it's worth reading. Paul Sperry @paulsperry_, "BREAKING: Just-declassified FBI/DOJ Clinton Foundation docs reveal the same inspector general, Michael Atkinson, who relaxed whistleblower rules and misled Congress re the Eric Ciaramella/Adam Schiff impeachment plot, was involved in the 2016 decision to scuttle the Clinton Fdn. investigation as a then-DOJ prosecutor."

Matt Margolis also reports a Top Fauci Aide Indicted for Concealing Records in COVID Origins Cover-Up. Hat Hair's Dave Strom is hoping for COVID Consequences Coming? Sean Spicer @seanspicer, "Anthony Fauci adviser indicted by Department of Justice David Morens, 78, has been charged with conspiracy against the United States; destruction, alteration, or falsification of records in federal investigations; concealment, removal, or mutilation of records; and aiding and abetting." He was too low in the food chain to get an auto-pen pardon. Clay Travis @ClayTravis, "A doctor and top assistant to Anthony Fauci has been arrested for destroying emails relating to the origins of Covid. Finally! Buckle up, more is coming." Quote Senator Ron Johnson @SenRonJohnson, "More than two years ago, my PSI staff discovered and made public emails in which Dr. David Morens bragged to colleagues about his efforts to avoid transparency by destroying federal records and using his personal email to communicate on “sensitive issues.”" At Althouse "These allegations represent a profound abuse of trust at a time when the American people needed it most — during the height of a global pandemic." "Said Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, quoted in "Anthony Fauci adviser indicted by DOJ on charges of concealing COVID records" (NY Post)." Paul D. Thacker @thackerpd, "EXCLUSIVE: NIH has removed virologist Ralph Baric from all his grants; UNC placed Baric on leave. Forget It Jake, It's Baltimore - Key Bridge Contract Cancelled

Balmer Sun, Key Bridge contract canceled: Moore’s ‘fastest-moving’ claim tested

Maryland’s plan to rebuild the Francis Scott Key Bridge hit a major setback Tuesday, as state officials abruptly canceled a key construction contract, undercutting Gov. Wes Moore’s repeated claim that the project was the nation’s “fastest-moving” large infrastructure effort. The decision to off-ramp contractor Kiewit Infrastructure Co. from the project’s critical second phase came after its proposals “far exceeded” state estimates, according to U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.

The move forces Maryland back into the market for a new builder at a pivotal moment, as project costs have surged from roughly $1.8 billion to more than $5.2 billion. It transforms what Moore has framed as a model of speed into a high-stakes test of the administration’s ability to manage one of the most expensive and politically scrutinized infrastructure projects in the country.

In a major joint announcement through separate releases on Tuesday by the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) and the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA), the State of Maryland has canceled its contract with the Key Bridge’s construction contractor, Kiewit Infrastructure Co., for Phase 2 of the project.

Phase 2 of the project focused on finalizing the new Key Bridge’s design, driving steel piles into the Patapsco River, and beginning construction of the roadway approaches and spans. This phase also granted Kiewit exclusive rights and transitioned from preliminary plans to a guaranteed maximum price for construction.

MDTA said in its release that it is “off-ramping” Kiewit, forcing the state back into the market to find a new contractor for the most critical phase of work. This decision comes after negotiations over cost failed, with Duffy pointing out that Kiewit’s proposals “far exceeded” independent state estimates.

Maryland transportation leaders framed the move on Tuesday as a necessary step to protect taxpayers and keep the project on track. Maryland Transportation Secretary Katie Thompson said in MDTA’s announcement that safety, speed and cost efficiency remain top priorities. “At the governor’s direction, MDTA will aggressively protect and advance the interests of Maryland,” Thomson said.

In a statement on Tuesday, Moore said that since the beginning, he has “been unequivocal: we will rebuild this bridge safely, quickly, and cost-effectively. And we will never settle for less.” “As we prepare to enter Phase 2 of construction, our team approached negotiations with our contractor with clear eyes and firm imperatives,” Moore said in his statement. “But after weeks of engagement, it became evident that the contractor’s proposed price and timeline for moving forward was unreasonably high and therefore unacceptable.” “This was informed by the state’s independent cost estimates,” Moore added.
...
In a separate federal announcement, U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy painted a starkly different picture: a project plagued by ballooning costs, delays, and the need for aggressive federal oversight. Duffy also claimed victory in delivering on his promise of vigorous oversight of the costs to rebuild the Key Bridge. “The Trump Administration is always working to secure the best possible team for hardworking American taxpayers,” said Duffy in the release. “It’s my job to ensure the American people’s tax dollars are used efficiently and that major projects are completed on time and on budget.”
