Flotsam and Jetsam - Some Random Pickings on Sunday Morning

Kind of a slow day, but we're still talking about Tucker. At Spiked, Brendan O'Neill attempts to explain Why they hate Tucker Carlson. It's easy enough. They hate anyone who opposes them, and the higher they rise, the more they hate them. At Da Mail, 'Fox News is going to regret the decision.' Tucker Carlson's shocked neighbors in his quaint Maine town rally round the firebrand known locally as a 'modest, pickup truck-driving good guy' who likes to fish and chop wood. Paul Bedard at WaEx, Outfoxed: Tucker Carlson ‘more popular’ than Fox. At SLAY, Tucker Carlson Had More Views Wednesday Than All Cable News Shows for Entire Day Combined, sure, but some of that is just news value. Bob Spencer at PJM, Okay, Hold Everything: Tucker Carlson WASN'T Fired, Says ‘I’m Still Employed by Fox’, still an evolving situation.

From Mediaite, Joe Rogan Says There’s No 2024 Solution for Democrats ‘Other Than Biden Dying — Like Very Soon’. He should avoid Arkansas during the campaign. At Western Journal, Pinko CNN Commentator Reveals Biden Is Actually Trojan Horse for Another Candidate in 2024. "Are you voting for Kamala Harris in 2024? The polls say no, but Van Jones says yes — you just don’t know it yet." At Fox, Kamala Harris could be most consequential running mate in modern history as Republicans see weakness. "Conservative columnist Kristin Tate told Fox News Digital 'Kamala Harris is one of the most unlikable and uninspiring public figures in modern political history'" Benny Johnson@bennyjohnson "Savage New Yorkers take turns ROASTING Joe Biden over 2024 re-election launch: "His slogan should be 'I QUIT!'" How a lot of people feel right now. From Da Caller, Disinformation ‘Experts’ Are Keeping Quiet After Latest Twist In Hunter Biden Laptop Scandal, well, they have been pretty thoroughly discredited. Jonathan Turley seems extra-pissed about this  "
Daddy Dearest: Hunter Forced to Appear in Arkansas in Fight Over His Child’s Name and Support  "If one were to combine all of Hunter’s influence peddling, drug abuse, orgies and prostitution controversies, they would not hold a candle to the utter depravity shown toward this little girl." Althouse, "President Biden, who has frustrated some reporters with his lack of press conferences, showed up with jokes (and some serious remarks) to the White House correspondents’ dinner." "The best joke isn't quoted in the WaPo article!"They say I'm over the hill. Don Lemon would say: That's a man in his prime."" The man is a tottering joke himself.

Dave Winston at Roll Call opines Trillion-dollar deficits: Biden’s new normal, "It's time for the president to meet Republicans at the negotiating table." At SLAY, Biden Advances Plans for Americans to No Longer Own Money. You'll take their digital currency whether you want to or not, and they will use it to control how you spend it. At the PI, Regulators Knew Silicon Valley Bank Was in Trouble Since 2021, Did Not Step In. Neglect is a feature, not a bug. Charlie Gasparino at NYPo says Clueless Yellen fails to stave off bank crisis as First Republic sinks. WaEx, GOP seizes on debt ceiling vote to target vulnerable Democrats in new attack ads, "Seize!"

Hat Hair's KT, Pro-DeSantis PAC launches offensive against Nikki Haley. She needs to be careful, she might want to be his VP.

The Beeb, Pence testifies about Trump and the Capitol riot. At the Blaze, QAnon Shaman files motion to vacate conviction: 'Due process rights were clearly violated'  "The motion, filed in federal court on Thursday, argued that the Department of Justice violated its Brady obligation to provide potentially exculpatory evidence to Chansley before he pled and before his sentencing. Because the DOJ withheld the CCTV footage from inside the Capitol building, footage that indicated that Capitol police escorted Chansley throughout his time inside, Shipley claimed that the government had denied Chansley "due process."" Seems true to me.

Jazz Shaw at Hair is amused that the FBI is proud We're not spying on nearly as many Americans as we did last year. Trying to look good for the FISA renewal.

Althouse reads the NYT, "To many women, Mr. Trump has come to represent male sexual entitlement. I heard this repeatedly as I researched my book about why accusers are often doubted." "Writes Deborah Tuerkheimer, lawprof and author of "Credible: Why We Doubt Accusers and Protect Abusers," in "The Importance of E. Jean Carroll’s Lawsuit Against Donald Trump" (NYT)." So Trump is stand in for all the fumbling males down through history.

Jazz Shaw wonders Will the FTC wade into the blue check apocalypse? I don't see where it's their business, but when has that stopped them? Ben Whedon at JTN reports Jim Jordan subpoenas three federal agencies for docs on censorship. "The Twitter Files and other public reporting have exposed how the federal government has pressured and colluded with Big Tech and other intermediaries to censor certain viewpoints in ways that undermine First Amendment principles."

At City Journal, Kay Hymowitz discusses The Transgender Children’s Crusade. "With its vision of autonomous young people in touch with their innermost desires, gender identity negates all we know about growing up." Kathy Anderson at PI, Poll Shows a Whopping 20% of Gen Z is ‘LGBT.’ How Did This Happen? Social media, peer pressure, and groomers in education. From Twitchy, Anheuser-Busch assured that it’s ‘absolutely critical’ to stand in solidarity with Dylan Mulvaney. Might as well, they've already ruined the brand. Also, Colorado Dem argues against indecent exposure law that targets drag queens and the trans community.

Believe them when they speak.

Oregon, My Oregon

John Sexton at Hat Hair, Oregon Democrats propose bill to decriminalize homeless camps

It feels like this was always inevitable in Portland though I doubt other cities in the state will be happy about it. The Oregon legislature is considering a bill which would decriminalize homeless camps in public spaces. Not only would HB 3501 make the camps themselves legal, they would give homeless people a right to privacy wherever they decide to pop up a tent. In fact, any homeless person being asked to move from their home would have the right to sue.
A new bill in the Oregon legislature is proposed as the Right to Rest Act. House Bill 3501 would decriminalize camping in public places…

Under HB3501, homeless individuals would be able to have “a privacy interest and a reasonable expectation of privacy in any property belonging to the person, regardless of whether the property is located in a public space” – i.e., granting the individual rights to treat public spaces like a private residence “without discrimination and time limitations that are based on housing status.” Homeless individuals would also be able to sue for up to $1,000 if swept, told to relocate, or otherwise “harassed” as per the bill.
CNN has some reactions to the bill from people on both sides:
“We cannot give these people legal protection to do as they please in our public spaces, and strip our citizens of their own rights to use these same spaces,” wrote Portland resident Carlin Scott. “Portland is struggling right now to retain residents, and the increasing encroachment of homeless camps on our public lands is a big reason why we’re losing residents.”…

Others who support the bill say they believe unhoused people are deserving of help just as anyone else is.

“For too long law enforcement has acted to effectively enclose public land from common use, especially use by down-on-their luck Oregonians,” said Jackson Miller, a Portland resident. “While this bill is no public housing guarantee or major zoning reform, it does seem like it will ensure certain rights of homeless individuals and as such represents an important step in the right direction.”

I hope the last taxpayer in Portland remembers to shut off the water when he/she/it leaves.

Fox may want to sit on Tucker for as long as possible to keep him from competing, but Tucker could then have a breach-of-contract claim against Fox. PM, Police searching for trans-identified con artist that allegedly drugged, robbed NYC model
A New York City model claims to be the victim of a heinous crime after a trans-identified male allegedly scammed and robbed her at a high-end night club in the East Village with staff members accused of being in on the scheme.

Anna Tchorbadjiev, 25, filed a lawsuit against Madison Square Garden Entertainment (MSGE) for $1.5 million in a Manhattan Supreme Court over the alleged incident that occurred at Little Sister Lounge earlier this year, according to the New York Post.
Tchorbadjiev, who has modeled for Glamour and Harper's Bazaar, claims in the suit that she was out drinking with a friend at the Baccarat Hotel in Midtown when Angela Acosta de Mastronardi, a trans-identified male, approached her and asked her to get drinks at Little Sister Lounge in East Village.

The model told the outlet that she agreed to go to the club because "We were all chilling" and "It seemed very normal."

"I had no reason to get suspicious of this person," Tchorbadjiev said, who models under the name Anna Alimani.

"She (sic) offered to pay and then her card declined, and I was like, 'Let me pay,'" the model told the outlet, who proceeded to take a sip of her espresso martini.
Within minutes of drinking the martini, the model says that she became significantly ill and left the club. She then quickly noticed that her credit cards were missing from her wallet. The alleged trans-identified scammer followed Tchorbadjiev and suggested they "stop for water" at another Tao club, according to the New York Post.

That's when the model confronted Angela, who denied stealing her credit cards. Tchorbadjiev says that she got her credit cards back after "grabbing Angela by the hair" who then dropped the cards into her purse. After the confrontation, Angela attempted to follow her into her building.

"I was like, 'No way, b*tch, you'll rob me blind.' I had to push her out of the elevator," she said.

After getting inside her residence, the model found two credit card charges that were made at Little Sister. One charge was for a $500 tip for the two drinks, and the second charge was for a $1,000 tip, the outlet reports.

A detective with the New York City Police Department told Tchorbadjiev that this trans-identified male is the suspect in similar scams in Miami, New York, and Las Vegas.

Oregon, My Oregon

From the Free Bacon, Portland Has Given Millions to a Sketchy 'Anti-Racist' Group That Won't Say What It Plans To Do With The Money

The City of Portland, Oregon, last week reaffirmed its commitment to giving a $5 million grant to an "anti-racist" group that won't say what it plans to do with the money.

The city in 2020 agreed to fund the progressive advocacy group Reimagine Oregon to the tune of $1.9 million a year, with no end date specified. At the time, Portland mayor Ted Wheeler (D.) called the grant the "centerpiece" of his budget proposal. Three years later, the organization has not said what it plans to do with the grant money. Nor has it spent a penny of the nearly $5 million in taxpayer funds, which are now sitting, untouched, in city coffers.

Formed by black activists in 2020, Reimagine Oregon outlines policy ideas to "dismantle systemic racism" through policies such as defunding the police and redistributing wealth. Last week, Portland city commissioner Mingus Mapps (D.) proposed terminating the grant and redirecting the money to other causes. But after fierce blowback from local black activists, the commission and mayor tanked his amendment on Wednesday.

Mapps, the only black member of the Portland city commission, told the Washington Free Beacon he was disappointed by the opposition to his proposal.

"I was trying to push these dollars out to African-Americans," Mapps said. "We have to be more competent at the basics of government."

Portland lawmakers’ recommitment to Reimagine Oregon comes after high-profile "anti-racist" and equity groups have come under fire for their murky finances and shoddy track records. One co-founder of Black Lives Matter Global Network, the umbrella group for the grassroots movement, secretly bought a $6 million house with the group’s funds. Another BLM executive allegedly stole $10 million for his own use.

Commissioner Carmen Rubio blamed the city for preventing Reimagine Oregon from accessing the funds and claimed that a city agency will submit a plan for the grant money in May. "That’s when we will all learn" how the group intends to spend $5 million, Rubio said.

Reimagine Oregon does not appear in the IRS directory of tax-exempt organizations and boasts just one staff member: Justice Rajee, a podcaster who is also running this year for a local school district board seat. The group was reportedly organized under the umbrella of a few nonprofits, including Urban League Portland and the Coalition of Communities of Color.

Urban League Portland and Reimagine Oregon did not respond to a query about its legal status.

They vote poorly.

Cascadia Burps, West Coast Alerts

Jazz Shaw at Hat Hair, Cascadia fault line could be ready to shift. And that would be VERY bad

Oceanographers working off the coast of Oregon have made a potentially alarming discovery. They’ve found a vent in the ocean floor that is pushing out warm water. On the surface, that may not sound all that remarkable or dangerous, but the chemical composition of the water suggests that it’s coming up from a deep vent and it’s located on top of the Cascadia Subduction Zone. We’ve covered this topic here in the past, but if you’re not familiar with the CSZ there are some good documentaries online where you can learn the details. The short version of the story is that the CSZ “slips” on a regular basis every 300 to 400 years. When it does, it causes an earthquake of at least magnitude 8 or 9. And very shortly after that, a tsunami that looks like nothing seen in our lifetimes comes ashore from southern Canada to northern California destroying everything in its path. This leaking vent in the seafloor could be an early indicator that the next slip is on the way.
The Cascadia Subduction Zone (CSZ) is a massive fault line stretching from Vancouver Island to Northern California—and it’s the source of the vast majority of earthquakes and tsunamis in the region. In fact, scientists believe that the fault line will likely be the source of the next Big One, an anticipated megathrust earthquake so powerful it’ll wreak death and destruction the likes of which we’ve never seen before from a geological event.

So, it goes without saying that researchers have a special interest in studying the CSZ—and they may have uncovered something that could clue us in on what’s going on with the incredibly powerful ticking time bomb.
The last CSZ quake happened in January of 1700. The Native Americans still talked of it in their oral traditions and told the first European settlers arriving in the region about it. The death toll was horrific, though there was very little in the way of construction to be destroyed in the region at the time. It’s a given that another one is coming and we’re already in the window of time when it would typically happen.

The question is, what are we supposed to do with this information? We’ve known this is coming for quite a while now and back in 2016 officials were conducting emergency evacuation drills in Oregon to try to prepare for it. But there’s only so much you can do, realistically. Scientists believe that from the time the fault slips and the earthquake hits, it will be as little as 30 minutes before the wave hits. There are three-quarters of a million people in Seattle. There are nearly as many in Portland. You simply can’t evacuate that many people in half an hour, particularly when they’re already scrambling through the wreckage of a category 9 earthquake.

Flotsam and Jetsam - Tucker Speaks

Tucker Carlson, free from Fox, posted a short video, which said, reading between the lines, keep the faith, I'll be back. From Matt Margolis at PJM,  Tucker Carlson Breaks Silence, Releases Video Statement. Town Hall Staff write 'See You Soon': Tucker Carlson Breaks His Silence and at Red State, Bonchie pens Tucker Carlson Releases Telling Video Update Following His Divorce From Fox News. At Da Wire, Tucker Carlson Breaks Silence After Ouster From Fox, Offers 3-Word Response To Biden Officials Celebrating His Removal, “Ha! I’m sure.” Sundance at CTH, Tucker Carlson Broadcasts an 8:00pm Message, “True Things Prevail”, noting it happened at the same time his Fox broadcast would have been.

Meanwhile, rumor abound. Rolling Stone claims Fox Has a Secret ‘Oppo File’ to Keep Tucker Carlson in Check, Sources Say. At the WSJ Tucker Carlson’s Vulgar, Offensive Messages About Colleagues Helped Seal His Fate at Fox News, "Prime-time host called senior executive the c-word in redacted missive; network grew wary of further embarrassment from possible disclosure." John Sexton, Another factor in the firing of Tucker Carlson, his text messages. "Generally speaking, harsh language from people in the news business probably doesn’t qualify as news. However, other news outlets were working to get hold of those redacted messages and might have done so eventually. Add that to the 90 or so videos of Carlson’s staff making offensive and allegedly anti-Semitic comments and you can see how this would very easily turn into a week-long storm of condemnation from every national news outlet." NYT, In a Lawsuit, Tucker Carlson Is Accused of Promoting a Hostile Work Environment "Carlson’s former head of booking, Abby Grossberg, said that male producers regularly used vulgarities to describe women and frequently made antisemitic jokes." Curiously, she and Tucker never worked in the same office.

Matt Margolis again, Tucker Carlson Has a Theory on Why He Was Fired, the Murdochs are preparing to sell Fox. At Summit, one of the whackier theories, Video: Days Before Being Fired, Tucker Carlson Exposed WEF Efforts To Force People To Eat Bugs.

Mark Judge, (of the Kavanaugh hearings fame) has Career Advice From the Canceled for Tucker Carlson  "The left has given conservatives a lot to shout and be outraged about, so we do need champions on cable TV and Twitter. Yet we also need journalists who can work a beat for months and come up with stories, as I did, that challenge liberal narratives and maybe even historic perceptions. Tucker can make that happen." Across da pond at Da Mail, 'Appetizers plus entrรฉe!' Looks like Tucker Carlson doesn't give two Fox about his ouster from network - gleefully telling his future plans while tooling off to a romantic date night with wife Susan.
