As expected, Trump went to Manhattan to go through the motions of being arrested on 34 counts of calling his payouts to Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal "legal expenses", because they were paid to a lawyer who had already paid the women. Alvin Bragg bootstrapped this dubious (single) misdemeanor into 34 felony counts by alleging the purpose of the 34 checks to Michael Cohen was to violate some other as yet unspecified laws, presumably state or federal election laws, which would also normally be misdemeanor charges for which fines would be issued. The "arrest" went without incident, reportedly no mugshot was taken (it's not like the world is lacking images of Donald Trump), Trump pleaded not guilty to all the charges, and the judge did not impose bail, or a gag order, although he did issue a stern warning to Trump about "mean tweets." Trump returned to Florida, where he made a speech condemning the charges (among other things).
