Flotsam and Jetsam - What The He!! is John Thune Doing?

TownHall's Matt Vespa wonders What Is John Thune Doing? As little as possible, and obstructing House Republicans when he has the chance. "Now, with government spending back on the agenda and us set to run out of money on September 30, you once again disregard House Republicans, adding that you’ll pass your own continuing resolution with Democrats. John, THEY WANT A SHUTDOWN. Are you blind, deaf, and dumb?" Also, Speaker Johnson Had a Legislative Hat Trick Today While Thune Wants to Sell Out to Dems. Jen O'Connell at RedState, John Thune Just Stabbed Mike Johnson—and House Republicans—in the Back. I think it was in the front.

Amy Curtis at TownHall likes how Scott Jennings Humiliated a CNN Panel Following Revelations of New Jersey Voter Fraud. Nick Sortor @nicksortor, " HOLY CRAP! The identity services provider New Jersey uses at the DMV is FIRING BACK at Gov. Sherrill, saying the NJ DIVISION OF ELECTIONS were the ones who registered 6,600 foreign voters This was NOT a “software error.” This is a SCANDAL. “IDEMIA's role is to transmit information through the motor vehicle system. The voter registration information is transmitted to the New Jersey Department of State, Division of Elections, which is ultimately responsible for verifying eligibility to vote. Information submitted by IDEMIA must still be validated and adjudicated by the Division of Elections.” So the Division of Elections MANUALLY APPROVED over SIX THOUSAND foreigners to vote. They were not automatically registered by the software provider as the governor claimed. Time to come clean, @GovSherrillNJ!" From Ace, Software Firm at Center of NJ's Illegal Alien Voting Scandal: There Was No "Glitch," Our Softward Did Exactly What NJ Wanted It To Do. 1. Foreigners never vote in our elections. 2. A few foreigners vote in our elections, but it's not a problem. 3. Foreigners do and should vote in our elections. Democrats are at #2. NewBusters notices The View Claims No Election Has Ever Been Stolen Before Trump Speech.

At PJM, VodkaPundit envisions Puting passing the hat, Buddy, Can You Spare 1.5 Trillion Rubles? "that's exactly what happened last week when the Kremlin attempted to sell OFZs (like U.S. Treasuries), but buyers said Nyet! so hard that "Russia’s Finance Ministry pulled the plug" on bond auctions until further notice, Crypto Briefing and others reported this week." Sundance at CTH admits befuddlement as Zelenskyy Removes and Replaces Leading Military Officials "None of these moves by Ukraine President Zelenskyy make any sense against the background story of them having incredible success against Russia. You don’t replace the entire military leadership apparatus if things are going swimmingly." So Ukrainian politics are probably at play. He also hosts Promethean Action PAC Reviews Motive of Canada -vs- USA on Trade and Tariffs.

Sarah at Insty says I DON’T TRUST ANY NUMBERS THESE DAYS. HOW MANY OF THESE ARE ON THE GIG ECONOMY? "Shocking 105 million Americans are not working – more than during COVID or the Great Recession. They’d probably count me in this."

Capt. Ed at Hat Hair, Trump: Bridge and Power Day Has Arrived If Iran Attacks Shipping. John Hinderacker at Power Line approves of Trump’s New Iran Policy. Ace, Trump: Every Time Iran Fires on a Ship, We Will Destroy One Bridge or Power Plant, make that two. wretchardthecat @wretchardthecat, "Eleven days into the US strikes on Iran the targets appear to be: 1. Iranian coastal targets; 2. Probable command and control centers and weapons sites. There isn't enough publicly available information to infer an implied purpose to these attacks. However their very anonymity suggests the targets are not symbolic, but rather obscure installations with an unpublicized military value. It would make sense but only if we had the secret map, which alas, we do not." Northern Barbarian @xnoesbueno, "Douche reporter got owned attempting a gotcha." Quote "Eric Daugherty @EricLDaugh, "JUST NOW — REPORTER: What will you say to the families today of the fallen troops? PRESIDENT TRUMP: "We love you. We love your child. "In light of recent victories in New York by Democratic Socialists, it is important to appreciate how they are not shy about wanting to eradicate and remake our current government institutions." Sasha Stone has a short take on how The Democrats Have a Communist Problem. End Wokeness @EndWokeness, "Hasan Piker framed the 9/11 front page This is an enemy of America." Jonah Goldberg @JonahDispatch, "Okay. I can accept this. If “The Nazi propaganda starts when people say Mao is worse than Hitler” as you say, then it’s not propagandistic to say that Mao was merely almost as bad as Hitler. Now, I think the “which genocidal murderer was the worst” game can get pretty stupid, because people often seem to think that coming in second or third to Hitler absolves mass murderers of any condemnation. ... Quote evan loves worf @esjesjes, Replying to @ProjectLiberal. "First of all you should look up the definition of genocide. Second of all the Great Leap Forward maybe killed around 40 million largely by accident. The Nazis killed like 55 million very much on purpose. The Nazi propaganda starts when people say Mao is worse than Hitler." Then Readers added context, "The 55 million figure represents total global casualties in WWII, not people killed directly and intentionally by the Nazi regime. Scholars estimate that victims of the Holocaust and Nazi persecution numbered around 11 to 17 million." Marx grew up in comfort, Douglass in chains. Marx thought the world owed him more comfort; Douglass only demanded liberty, & he'd do the rest." Quote Ben Shapiro @benshapiro, "Unsurprising. The most resentful people in the US are those who believe they are owed everything and fail; the least resentful are those who were given nothing and achieve." Capt. Ed says Platner, Mamdani, Talarico, and Now AOC: Scratch a Commie, Find a Mommy paying the bills. Geiger Capital @Geiger_Capital, "MSNBC host accidentally nails it… The far-left is driven by over-educated failures who can’t succeed in the real world, which is why they overwhelmingly hide in academia, NGOs and push socialism." Quote Chris Hayes @chrislhayes Replying to @NateSilver538, "The most left wing people in America are people with post graduate degrees who are financially strapped and the most right wing are people without 4 year college degrees who are rich." Spencer Pratt @spencerpratt, "As I’ve said…the socialist trend is for privileged dorks with enough family wealth to squander a decade as a perma-student, but not enough talent to actually achieve anything. Educated beyond their intelligence." Quote Nate Silver @NateSilver538 "Income and education are usually positively correlated. But sometimes the relationship breaks down. What's the most Democratic voting group in America? People with post-graduate degrees but lower-to-middle incomes."

John Sexton, Democrats Have a Massive Cash Problem. They ran out of OPM? Rick Moran hears GOP Has Twice the Cash on Hand for Midterms as Democrats. It's Actually Worse Than That. At Da Wire, Trump Official Throws Cold Water on Mamdani’s Netanyahu Promise, "The arrest of Netanyahu has been a fantasy of New York's Democratic Socialist Mayor since before his election in 2025." Jim Geraghty at NRO hears Mamdani Finally Admits He Can’t Arrest Bibi. Noam Blum @neontaster, "I get why Mamdani thought becoming mayor made him the generalisimo president of New York. Growing up in a fancy Ugandan compound with its own private militia will do that to a person." Dr. Maalouf @realMaalouf, "Shocking data reveals: 95% of Zohran Mamdani’s engagement comes from foreign, mostly Islamic nations. 60% from Pakistan alone. How is this not considered foreign influence?" At TIME, What We Know About Mamdani’s First Planned City-Owned Grocery Stores. I didn't realize TIME still existed. Flotsam and Jetsam - Democrat Civil War Heats Up

Stacey Matthews at LI thinks The ‘Moderate’ Left’s Campaign to Distance Themselves From Their Socialist Wing Isn’t Going Well. “They should not be the face of our party. We need to be organized and clear in our vision.” From Twitchy, SOUND THE ALARM! Fire Marshal Bowman Attacks Josh Shapiro as Democrats Continue to Eat Each Other. Althouse cites Trump, "And the Democrats aren't fighting back.... They didn't beat us, but they'd be victorious against the Communists." "But they don't have the courage to do so. So, they're turning Communists themselves, becoming a Communist Party." Sundance at CTH hosts Barbara Boyd Outlining The DSA New York Communist Program. Jeff Blehar at NRO outlines Darializa Chevalier and the Left’s Tea Party Moment. Stephen L. Miller @redsteeze, "Everything as a matter of record and was well known that The New York Times could have reported on before the primary. Bang up job, Team." Quote Peter Baker @peterbakernyt, "Who is Darializa Avila Chevalier? She has called Biden a "rapist," said "fuck Kamala Harris," seemed to justify Russia's invasion of Ukraine, denigrated interracial relationships and supported abolishing police, borders and prisons." Ace, Democrats Recruited Antifa As their Zombie Street Enforcers. Now the Antifa Zombies Are Running the Show. "Darializa Avila Chevalier, founder of the pro-Hamas, pro-October 7 group CUAD and committed to -- quote -- the "total eradication of Western civilization," will soon officially be a Democrat congresswoman." Matt Taibbi at Racket writes about Zohran Mamdani and the Nitwit Revolution "New York's Mayor proved he's a generational political talent this week, re-shaping the Democratic Party and setting America up for a referendum on its founding principles." At Da Signal, Victor Davis Hanson Sets the Record Straight on Tucker Carlson and Graham Platner. Gregg Keller @RGreggKeller, "One of the benefits of working on a campaign effort against Talarico is that they make all of our commercials for us. #txsen." Quote RNC Research @RNCResearch, "CRINGE Texas Dems have lost their minds defending James Talarico: “They say that James is trans, we’re all trans. ..." John LeFevre @JohnLeFevre, "Homeless, yachtless Elon Musk, who actually builds rockets, EVs, and neural tech trying to benefit humanity, should apparently cough up $50 billion in taxes on unrealized gains. Meanwhile, Laurene Powell Jobs ($15B inherited), Nancy Walton ($20B inherited), and MacKenzie Scott ($40B divorce) never built shit, never risked shit, and never shipped a single product that changed the world. But they get the praise and zero scrutiny. Because they have the right politics. (BTW ~25% of Walmart employees are on government benefits.)" From the College Fix, Trump admin caught $150 million in fraudulent student loans in past months. The Post Millennial @TPostMillennial, "Trump Education Dept. blocks $150 MILLION in fraudulent student loans amid California 'ghost student' scam: "We have turned education in this country into a piggy bank for the worst people you can imagine, and the Biden administration did nothing about this!"" John Solomon at JTN reports Treasury Secretary vows law-breaking leftist nonprofits to face prosecution, asset seizures. "Bessent's crackdown comes after President Donald Trump signed an executive order last fall asking federal agencies to better police tax-exempt organizations, which have exploded in size and mission far beyond traditional charities." I'm not entirely sure we need tax-exempt organizations.

Driscoll at Insty, BUTTIGIEG SEPARATED FROM CHILDREN AFTER BEING TARGETED BY FALSE CPS REPORT: “Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said he was briefly separated from his 4-year-old twins after an anonymous caller filed a false report with Child Protective Services concerning his family. Buttigieg wrote about the swatting-like incident in a lengthy Substack post on Friday, detailing his encounter with Michigan State Police.” Scalito @Legally_Italian, "Amy Coney Barrett was swatted last month. Neither Pete Buttigieg nor Mark commented on it. The New York Times did not do a story on it. I like Mark, but the truth is the only thing new about this story is that it happened to a Democrat. It’s ho-hum and commonplace for conservatives." Quote Mark Halperin @MarkHalperin, "Everyone, including those who oppose @PeteButtigieg politically, should speak out about this in a forceful manner. x.com/jason/status/2…" At Althouse "A Terrible Thing Happened to My Family," writes Pete Buttigieg. "At Substack. I don't think he's accusing Child Protective Services or the police of handling the complaint improperly. Should they have done anything differently? Read the essay carefully and tell me what you think. I believe the answer is no." Has anyone considered the possibility that whoever reported Buttigieg saw something concerning. At least CPS doesn't usually break down the door, use flash-bangs and start shooting.

Also from Althouse, "How the Reflecting Pool Turned Green.... Bulky 'nanobubbler' machines were carted off ahead of a promotional event for President Trump’s Ultimate Fighting Championship birthday party." "The NYT reports. ... In recent days, the water has become clear again, reflecting the sky and the surrounding monuments. The temporary nanobubblers have been replaced with more discreet, permanent purification systems. Still, the Park Service plans to drain the pool again soon to fix the peeling coating...."

TownHall's Matt Vespa thinks This Bill Maher Episode Was Wild...and the Libs Are Not Going to Like It. RedState's Nick Arama says The Dems Are Going to Lose Their Minds Over This Bill Maher Show With JD Vance.

Nick Arama again, Iran Launches Strikes Against Bahrain - and the Excuse Is Incredible. "He literally blamed the U.S. for Iran's own violation." At Hat Hair, Dave Strom sees Tit-for-Tat in Strait of Hormuz; UPDATE: Iran Attacks Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraqi Government Upheaval and Larry Elder cites Trump: The Greater Risk Was Waiting. wretchardthecat @wretchardthecat, "The WSJ says the relatively small number of Iranian hits on US facilities in the Gulf are 'devastating'. "Iran shot more than 8,000 missiles and drones and only two hits resulted in U.S. fatalities,” said Capt. Tim Hawkins, a spokesman for U.S. Central Command, which oversees U.S. forces in the Middle East. Hawkins also said the U.S. military inflicted far more damage to Iran than it received, with the U.S. striking more than 13,500 targets." My comment: that's not how narratives work. Any damage to the US not equal to zero is devastating; 13,500 targets Iranian targets hit without regime change means the IR is winning or has in fact won."

John Sexton at Hat Hair observes The Lack of Gasoline is Getting to Russians. Trent Telenko @TrentTelenko, "Russia is suffering a supply and corruption driven fuel shock to its economy that is bigger than the USA's twin energy shocks of the 1973 oil embargo and the 1979 fall of Shah in Iran. 1/" Quote 𝔗𝔥𝔢 𝕯𝔢𝔞𝔡 𝕯𝔦𝔰𝔱𝔯𝔦𝔠𝔱△ @TheDeadDistrict, "In Zabaykalsky Krai, one of the strictest fuel sales limits has been introduced — 15 liters per fill-up. ""They are seeking opportunities to reduce their reliance on Moscow, even as they tread lightly so as not to cross the Kremlin or antagonize China. That's one of 2 stories about Kazakhstan at the top of the front page of the NYT right now. The other is: "Trump Cut a Billion-Dollar Mining Deal. His Sons Stand to Profit. An agreement between the U.S. and Kazakhstan has given a group of American investors with ties to the president and the commerce secretary access to one of the world’s largest untapped reserves of tungsten."" Sundance has a theory on Why The Ukraine War is Hardest to End? "Mike Steger from Promethean Action PAC argues the reason the Ukraine war is hardest to end is simply because Ukraine represents the proxy state of all the globalist stakeholders who need another large conflict in order to eliminate the problem of a moral-based Christian perspective within the ‘West.’" Drek. The war is hard to end because both sides have a lot at stake. At this point Putin has his reputation at stake and I suspect that he truly believe Ukraine should be part of Russia. Moreover, given that defense is generally easier than offence, the greater size and population of Russia is largely offset. And superior Ukrainian innovation in drone is starting to make inroads.

Mitch Berg at Hat Hair VIP is happy SCOTUS Strikes Down Hawaii's "Vampire" Gun Carry Ban. Jonathan Turley doesn;'t think much of Justice Jackson’s Curious Call to Overturn Bruen: The Burden of History ."The burden of actually seeking to understand the intended meaning of a constitutional provision is certainly greater than the more free-style approach of Jackson who focused on how to “resolve contemporary problems” under a living Constitution." At the Balmer Sun, Supreme Court betrays America’s founding promise, by treating all races equal regarding redistricting.

Brian Cates - Political Columnist & Pundit @drawandstrike, "No joke. I'd actually read all the books and seen several films and TV movies about Watergate by 1997. That was the year I read Silent Coup, by Len Colodny and Robert Gettlin. It literally blew my mind that Bob Woodward was a high-level Naval intelligence officer, doing briefings for the JCOS and other intel work. All the coverage of Woodward's past glossed over his intelligence official past with a line or two about him 'briefly serving in the Navy'. So a ONI guy doing top level briefings for the Pentagon brass just happens to start a new career as an intrepid cub reporter for the Washington Post, just in time to be fed THE BIGGEST POLITICAL SCANDAL STORY in US history."

Flotsam and Jetsam - Trump Wins a Couple More at the High Court

The Supreme Court is in the process of cleaning up this years caseload, and a few important cases have come down. Regarding immigration, the Court overrode the lower court ruling keeping the Trump administration from revoking the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) of Haitian and Syrian illegal aliens. The Court also ruled the administration could continue its policy of refusing asylum requests from would be immigrant in third countries (like Mexico and Canada) who have not yet entered the US. Both decisions were 6-3 in the way you would expect. Bob Hoge at RedState, Tension on the Bench: Justice Alito Is None Too Pleased With Sotomayor's Bitter Dissent on Asylum Case. "Sotomayor read from her 39 pages of angry rhetoric as the other judges either stared impassively or read their notes." Stephen L. Miller @redsteeze, "Yeah this part of the statement doesn't feel very *temporary'" Quote Aber Kawas @AberKawas, "I’m angered by today’s Supreme Court decision to strip Temporary Protected Status from Haitian and Syrian families who have fled violence and instability to seek refuge here. This ruling won’t stop there. It opens the door to ending TPS for more than a million people from fled violence and instability to seek refuge here. This ruling won’t stop there. It opens the door to ending TPS for more than a million people from countries across the world, putting countless families at risk of deportation and separation...." Chris Queen at PJM, When Does an Immigrant 'Arrive' in the U.S.? The Supreme Court Ruled on That Question. Townhall.com @townhallcom, "BREAKING: The Supreme Court delivers a MASSIVE win for Trump's immigration agenda! SCOTUS reverses a lower court ruling that forced the federal government to accept migrants who hadn't even reached the border as "asylum seekers." The vote is 6-3." Many expect that the court released these two pro-administration immigration decisions to soften the blow when they rule against Trump on birthright citizenship. I can see that. At CIS, Salvadoran National Indicted for Rape of 16-Year-Old in N.Y. "An example of why the Laken Riley Act requires the deportation of aliens under removal orders."

In other cases Charles C. W. Cooke @charlescwcooke, "Oh, is that what the case was about? The Court convened, and the justices were asked whether they liked “big business” or those with “cancer,” and seven of the nine chose “big business”? Or was it about FIFRA’s preemption clause? The press’s coverage of the law is a disaster." Quote POLITICO @politico, "Supreme Court sides with big business in Roundup cancer risk fight http://dlvr.it/TTCdCf" Readers added context "The Supreme Court ruled 7-2 that federal pesticide law (FIFRA) preempts state failure-to-warn claims requiring cancer warnings on Roundup labels beyond EPA requirements; it did not decide the cancer risk." At the Volokh Conspiracy Josh Blackmun looks at two 2nd Amendment cases and says Something Feels Off About Hemani and Wolford (Updated), "The Court decides two major Second Amendment cases, but the latter does not even mention the former." Teri Christoph at RedState is pretty jazzed that Spanberger Gets Smacked Down *Again* As Virginia Judge Blocks 'Assault Firearms' Ban.

PJM's Stephen Kruiser thinks Trump Is Losing Patience With Useless Uniparty GOP Leadership on the SAVE Act, and in general, and Dave Manney says Trump Wants Action While Senate Republicans Count Excuses. At the Wash Stand, Trump, House Freedom Caucus Up Pressure on Senate to Pass SAVE America Act that 79% of Americans Support. Misty Severi at JTN reports the Postmaster General says he will comply with Trump rule to hold back mail ballots, "The proposed rule seeks to create lists of citizens in each state to help determine who is eligible to vote and calls on the Postal Service not to distribute mail ballots to those not on state lists."

Kurt Schlichter at TownHall advises us to Calm Down About JD Vance. Sarah Anderson at PJM calls it Marco's Mic Drop Moment: 'We Have No Drama, We Have No Games.'

Mark Tapscott at PJM, sees OTAS GETTING SUNLIGHT: "Federal law requires federal spending to be publicly available on the USASpending.gov, but not there is at least $99.7 billion in Department of War research and development spending using Other Transactions Agreements (OTA) over the past six years. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Ala) offers an amendment in the House Rules Committee (one of 1,200+!) that makes it clear OTA contracts must be disclosed on USASpending.gov. May not seem like a big deal in a $7 trillion federal budget but that’s how bureaucracies typically get around the law, finding (or creating) loopholes like OTA. And loopholes tend to breed like Jack Rabbits. Sundance at CTH, Arrogant, Sanctimonious and Entitled Republican Sub-Committee Chairman Mark Amodei (NV) Unmasks Himself." ZitoSalena @ZitoSalena, "'Welcome to the Money Belt,’ Trump on Pennsylvania’s economic reinvention--our interview discussing regions rapidly reinvention as well as him becoming part of an elite group of POTUS to ever visit the Army War College that includes Washington & Eisenhower." Sundance hosts Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent – The 5 Pillars of Economic Statecraft.

From ToI, US military says it killed senior ISIS leader in airstrike on Syria last week. The Great Victor Davis Hanson at Am Great says Don’t Forget the Broader Context of the Iranian Memorandum. Frank J. Fleming @IMAO_, "I want to get the people who hate this country out of this country and the Democrats are trying to get them in office." Logan Hall @loganclarkhall, "We imported a ton of third world foreign communists and allowed them to participate in our elections and run for office and then they all vote for third world foreign communism. A total of 66,000 votes were cast in that race. Thats’s how the DSA wins." Curtis Houck @CurtisHouck, "HILARIOUS: ‘CBS Mornings’ co-host Gayle King cuts off Manhattan Institute’s Reihan Salam as he explains that democratic socialists want to abolish borders and prisons, support Russia, and oppose U.S. foreign policy, telling him to “concentrate on the election that just happened” and suggests these kinds of people are just a footnote on the left." Flopping Aces @FloppingAces, "The media’s current strategy with this wave of enforcement is simple: treat every development as its own isolated headline so the larger pattern stays invisible. Then it’s Dominion quietly dropping its billion-dollar lawsuit against Mike Lindell after Smartmatic gets criminally indicted and its own assets get sold to new ownership. Meanwhile, violent crime continues dropping to levels not seen in decades. Each story gets its own article, its own framing, and its own carefully managed level of attention. One gets softened with language about “protesters.” Another gets buried in local coverage. A third gets presented as a strange legal development with no connection to anything else happening. What they’re trying very hard not to say out loud is that these are not random, disconnected events. Different categories of enforcement ... financial fraud, ideological violence, public corruption, voting systems lawfare, and ordinary street crime ... are all being pressured at the same time. That simultaneity is the actual story..."

Flotsam and Jetsam - Reporting Safe from the Storm

Well, we survived snowmageddocopalypse 26.5 (the 5th "winter storm" of the 25-26 winter season). Not too bad. We only have about 2 inches of snow, and although there are still a few small flakes coming down, I don't expect any more accumulation. The temperature has climbed to a little above freezing, expecting nearly 40 by the end of the day. I suppose I should shovel some before it gets too sticky. We had high winds overnight, and there's some small branches down in the front yard, but nothing damaging. Although there were some power outages in the area, we were spared (so far).

Although thin, it is the perfect  consistency for rolling into big balls to make snowmen with.
