The Monday Morning Stimulus

BEAVER FALLS, N.Y. (WKRC) - A high school student was suspended after bringing a cup of coffee on the first day of school.  According to WWNY, Julie Kaputa, a senior at Beaver River Central School in Beaver Falls, New York, said she was suspended on her first day of school as she entered the premises with a cup of coffee in her hand.

Kaputa spoke to reporters with WWNY, telling the outlet, “I walked in, I had my coffee with me. I got to my first-period class and my teacher said, ‘I’m either going to need you to dump that out or consume it on the spot or go down to the office.’”

Per the report, she said she was given an in-school suspension for violating Beaver River Central School's outside food and drink rule, which was a new addition to the school's code of conduct.

Kaputa's mother, MaryAnne Kaputa, said she doesn't believe the code is valid, telling WWNY, “She said, ‘It says there’s supposed to be a public hearing. When was that? We never knew about it. Did they announce it?’ And I said, ‘I don’t know, look.’ And we couldn’t find one.”

Kids these days. I didn't develop a coffee habit until my first year in college. A day of in school suspension seems a little harsh, unless she sassed the teacher who asked her to get rid of it.

Flotsam and Jetsam - Trump Lights Up Iran Again

This will be the last flotsam and jetsam for a while. Going out of town, and the county, up to Canukistan for a boys only fishing trip with Pete and a bunch of fish fanatics. Internet is likely to be sketchy, although Pete and one other guy have promised to bring Star Links. Hopefully, though, I'll be able to post some big fish pics. But don't worry, to keep you coming I've preloaded some morning eye-openers.

Now back to the news. PJM's Cathy Salgado reports Trump Confirms ‘Large and Powerful’ Strikes Near Hormuz Strait, in retaliation for some attempted attacks on US forces in the region, and on allies. From News Wax, US Hit Iranian Tankers in 'Tanker-for-Tanker' Escalation. PJM's VodkaPundit says You Gotta Be Kidding Me: We're Still Playing 'Let's Make a Deal!' With Iran? Well, you have to be able to talk, in case they get serious. In the meantime, you have to put up with their bullshit. From I&I, What Will TDS Sufferers Do If The U.S. Wins The Iran War? Deny and obfuscate, of course. The Babylon Bee @TheBabylonBee, "Suspicions Of Ayatollah's Death Rise After His Name Appears On California Voter Rolls," and Illinois and Michigan, and Massachusetts and Maryland...

At Pirate's Cove, LOL: Canada’s PM Whines About Memes During Trade Spat. At the NatPo, (CA), Joel Kotkin worries Carney aligns with the anti-free speech China and EU. Brad Todd @BradOnMessage, "There's a lot of truth in here, as you'd expect from @asymmetricinfo, but there is one more layer: for 30 years, we have allowed only ONE real lender for college tuition, with zero under-writing & ample political pressure to waive even principal payments. Monopoly lending helped create this beast's appetite. If we had instead under-written every college loan based on the potential for the borrower to pay it back, we would not have a lot of useless masters programs & climbing walls & zen rooms in rec centers of middling colleges that have compass directions or denominational labels in their names." Quote Megan McArdle @asymmetricinfo, "I think the correct formulation is that colleges are in trouble because the wage premium stagnated, but during the lag before people figured that out, colleges increased tuition to the point where expected value declined for marginal students."

Flotsam and Jetsam - You Can't Rename Lake Ontario Says the LatinX Birthing Person

Chris Martz @ChrisMartzWX "I think that Trump renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America is pointless and stupid. Wanna know what else I think is dumb? The fact left-wingers are triggered about this after they spent the last decade plus renaming sports teams, public schools and universities, streets and highways, food and condiment brands, and redefining half the dictionary altogether. Here’s a list of some in case you forgot: • Washington Redskins -> Commanders • Cleveland Indians -> Guardians • Stanford Indians -> Cardinals • Loudoun County Raiders -> Captains • Edmonton Eskimos -> Elks • Columbus Day -> Indigenous Peoples’ Day • Lee–Jackson Day -> eliminated • Robert E. Lee High School -> John Lewis High • Jefferson Davis Highway -> Richmond Highway • Mount McKinley -> Denali • Fort Bragg -> Fort Liberty • Fort Hood -> Fort Cavazos • Boy Scouts of America -> Scouting America • Aunt Jemima -> Pearl Milling Company • Uncle Ben’s Rice -> Ben’s Original • Eskimo Pie ice cream bars -> Edy’s Pie • Land O’Lakes -> removed the Indian, but kept the land • Illegal alien -> undocumented worker • Hispanic -> Latinx (a term Hispanics did not want and do not use) • Mother -> birthing person • Anchor baby -> child of noncitizens • black -> Black • Breastfeeding -> chest feeding • Inmate / prisoner / convict / felon -> justice-involved person • Ex-con / ex-felon -> returning citizen • “Gender” as a biological fact interchangeable with “sex” to being a social construct • Fat -> plus-sized • Master bedroom -> primary bedroom • Manhole -> utility hole And so on and so on. . ." "Thank God, no, we aren't going bust as a nation, despite our gargantuan $40 trillion national debt. The rapid pileup of debt under Republicans and Democrats alike is certainly a disgrace and worrisome. When I came to Washington in the mid-1980s, our debt hit $1 trillion for the first time. It seemed like a tidal wave of red ink. Forty years later, we're at $40 trillion. That's a big and scary number. But our national wealth is roughly $180 trillion. So our debt-to-asset ratio, which has been rising, is still less than 25%, and much lower than at the end of World War II, when the debt hit 40% of wealth." While GOP voters may be critical, this process needs to check all the boxes in order for it to stick in 2028 when it will matter the most." Fusilli Spock @awstar11 "Why haven't the House GOP even tried to impeach her?" Quote Gunther Eagleman™ @GuntherEagleman, "SCOTUS just cleared the path for Trump’s mail ballot security rules. Less than 24 hours later, Obama-appointed Judge Indira Talwani is back at it. She just ruled that the U.S. Postal Service “feigned complete compliance”  and violated her injunction by finalizing the new rules. Same judge. Same playbook. Different day. The Supreme Court speaks. A district judge digs in harder. This is exactly why Americans have lost trust in the system. Secure elections shouldn’t be this hard. Time to start naming names and holding these activist judges." accountable. Ooana Trien ~ Eric Arthur Blaire’s Mistress @ooana, "I always understood why the Second Amendment was constitutionally protected. What I never really understood was why people called it a natural right. Then I moved from New York to Florida..."

Herr Professor Jacobson at LI, hears El-Sayed’s Sister Say The Quiet Part Out Loud About Activist Profs Politically Proselytizing Students, “We have to realize that there are people who do not view teaching as their calling. They are not in academia to teach. They’re in academia to politicize.” Like it's a good thing. At Complete Colorado, State spins shockingly bad Colorado education testing data. "Any of the following would be perfectly accurate and appropriate headlines for testing data released August 19 from the Colorado Measures of Academic Success: “Most students grades 3–8 behind in all subjects according to state testing.” “State testing shows overall low student scores increase in just over half of categories by grade and subject.” “Nearly two-thirds of Colorado students struggle in math despite small testing gains.” “Large majority of Black and Hispanic students continue to struggle in language and math.” Here is an actual headline from the Denver Post that’s reasonable: “2026 CMAS results show Colorado students making gains in math, falling behind in reading.”"

Greg Lukianoff and Andrea Honeycutt at the Eternally Radical Idea, The mental health consequences of social justice fundamentalism, "Data shows that the farther left you lean, the more anxious, depressed, and unhappy you are." I see a problem separating cause and effect here. Helen Smith @HelenSmithPhD, "This looks about right. Since women are now the majority of psychologists, the field has totally changed, and not for the better."  Quote Gad Saad @GadSaad, "Epistemology of truth vs epistemology of care. Read this book:"

At Althouse, "Women in rural Devon are being coached on how to give birth in the back of a car after their local hospital shut its maternity service." There's your socialized medicine.

Flotsam and Jetsam - Just Another Sunday in the South

And the pickens are kinda slim. And I'm OK with that.

From Twitchy, Hypocrite 'Eat the Rich' DSA Leader Caught Lying and Living Off Mom & Dad’s Manhattan Money. The Manhattan Contrarian is outrages Democratic Socialists Commemorate Fidel Castro's 100th Birthday. The Free Bacon reports the El-Sayed Campaign Gets a $175,000 Boost From CAIR, Whose Leader Was 'Happy' About Oct. 7, After Alleging Primary Opponent's AIPAC Support Constituted 'Foreign' Intervention in Election. At the JPo, Mohammed El-Kurd laments not being allowed to hijack planes in protest "Last month, El-Kurd called on pro-Palestinian supporters to 'Normalize the massacres as the status quo' at a rally in London.." Mohammed El-Kurd @m7mdkurd, "You can’t protest peacefully. You can’t boycott. You can’t hunger strike. You can’t hijack planes. You can’t block traffic. You can’t throw Molotovs. You can’t self-immolate. You can’t heckle politicians. You can’t march. You can’t riot. You can’t dissent. You just can’t be." NYPo Opines on Why the DSA’s Medicare-for-All dream threatens us with a real-life nightmare. At Althouse, "The rollout could’ve been better. Absolutely, I said the rollout has to be cleaned up and fixed." "Said Governor Kathy Hochul, quoted in "How New York’s Second-Home Tax Turned Into a Headache for Mamdani/The bumpy rollout of the tax created an opportunity for Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s opponents to fight him in court and in the City Council" (NYT gift link)." "I did finally watch the whole minute. From the transcript: "This pied-a-terre tax is specifically designed for the richest of the rich, those who store their wealth in New York City real estate, but who don't actually live here.... This is a fundamentally unfair system that hurts working New Yorkers." What's "fundamentally unfair"? It's a child's reasoning: If someone has something that he's not using, it should be mine."

Hat Hair's Beege Welborn, sees Desperate Measures for Desperate Times: Dem Primaries Magically Become a Blue Wave. Democrats @TheDemocrats, "The blue wave is here—and these wins prove it." Queen Velvet @TMIWITW, "Democrats won Democrat primaries. Are democrats voters actually this stupid or do you just treat them as if they are?"

Joe Chalfant at TownHall rejoices that Elon Musk Just Gave Republicans Unbelievable News Heading Into the Midterms. "Elon Musk, who briefly became the world’s first trillionaire after SpaceX went public in June, is expected to spend up to $200 million on boosting the electoral prospects of Republicans across the country." He just looked between the cushions on the couches.

Tweets that didn't age well: Dr. Richard Harambe @Richard_Harambe, "Happy two year anniversary of Joe Biden challenging Trump to a debate for those who celebrate." Quote Joe Biden @JoeBiden, "Donald Trump lost two debates to me in 2020. Since then, he hasn’t shown up for a debate. Now he’s acting like he wants to debate me again."

From Breitbart Bus Dig, The Sky Isn't Falling in the U.S. Treasury Market. News Wax notices Newsom Touts Trump Accounts for California Families. Matt Vespa at TownHall heard Trump Went Nuclear on Some Familiar Names Last Night. Here's What He Said. "President Trump seems to have had it with Tucker Carlson, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Thomas Massie."

ZitoSalena @ZitoSalena, "It's impossible to have a nuanced, conversation about data power centers on social media; the politics right now is to demonize them, call them predators rather than show there are also examples of good industry stewards. Few have the courage to raise the consequences of that. Except Fetterman." Quote U.S. Senator John Fetterman @SenFettermanPA, "AI supremacy and energy dominance underpins our national security. China continues to fuel and benefit from our overreaction. I reject the political pandering and hyperbole over data centers or AI." Steve Moore at Hat Hair, Net Zero Is Dead and Gone. "Much of this never made sense given that AI and data center energy needs will double or triple our electric power demands over the next two decades. That will require an all-of-the above approach to meet those needs and to keep power affordable for our businesses and families."

At Althouse, "[T]his relationship is pathological, and a source of great irritation among other courtiers. It is Trump distilled to his essence..." "... cult leader and his most rabid follower, narcissist and his most flattering mirror. The daughter of a devoutly Christian real estate broker who died by suicide during the pandemic, [Natalie] Harp idolizes Trump with a rare fervor.... ... Trump told his staff that Harp was the only one who loved him as much as his wife and kids did. 'She’ll never leave me,' he would tell other staffers.... It’s a perfect (taxpayer-funded) relationship. She thinks he’s amazing. And he agrees." Writes Maureen Dowd, in "Natalie’s Magnificent Obsession" (NYT gift link)." She's so jealous! Eric Florack at PJM sees the The '34 Felony Convictions' Mantra Just Disintegrated as President Trump makes peace with Michael Cohen. "President Trump was interviewed by his former attorney, Michael Cohen, the star witness in the hush money case, which verdict is under appeal. Trump said Cohen was weaponized against him by the Justice Department. Cohen agrees, adding that he felt coerced by the Feds. The case stems from the president's effort to pay adult film star Stormy Daniels $130,000 during the 2016 election."

1945 notes US Navy Nuclear Aircraft Carriers Were Not Needed to Bomb Iran. They Were Needed to Blockade It. "A B-2 flying from Missouri and a Tomahawk launched from a destroyer two hundred miles offshore can both hit a target that once required a carrier. An F-35C off a flight deck does roughly what an F-35A does from a Gulf air base. The blockade was different: no target list to exhaust, only a duration set by Tehran." Mike Lee @BasedMikeLee, "MSM spin narrative incoming." Quote New York Post@nypost, "Traffic in the Strait of Hormuz skyrockets nearly 400%, as analysts say Iran's grip on critical waterway weakens https://trib.al/ZwiB1KE."

News Wax reports US Imposes Tariffs on $20 Billion of Canadian Products as Canada fails to come to terms with Trump. Sundance at CTH, Trade Talks Collapse – Prime Minister Carney Talking Alot, President Trump Remains Quiet "Canada wants unlimited and unrestricted access to the U.S. market as if they were a 51st state. However, Canada will not permit unlimited and unrestricted access to their market for U.S. companies. This, Carney says, compromises the sovereignty of Canada."

News Wax notes Trump Asks Supreme Court to Revive CNN Lawsuit "Trump said in the lawsuit that CNN defamed him through reports that said he had no evidence to support his claims of improprieties in the 2020 presidential election and repeatedly characterized his claims as the "Big Lie," a phrase Trump said was intended to link him to Hitler and Nazi propaganda."

C3 @C_3C_3, "It’s been a year since DeCarlos Brown murdered Iryna Zarutska and he hasn’t even had a trial yet. Shiloh Hendrix has already been tried, found guilty and sentenced for saying a word. I never want to hear about white privilege ever again." To be fair, murder trials tend to take a long time.

Wall Street Apes @WallStreetApes, "WOAH Oakland Democrats PASSED legislation banning citizenship checks for police jobs and city jobs City Employees and Oakland Police will be prohibited from asking about a person’s immigration and legal status when applying for jobs The Public Safety Committee passed the ordinance unanimously Democrats want to arm illegals in the police force against American citizens Everything that passed - Restricts collection of immigration status on applications - Ban on asking about legal status and sharing info with ICE agents - Officers prohibited from enforcing federal immigration rules - ICE agents blocked from entering non-public areas of city buildings without a warrant." At State of the Day, the State of Thursday: THE GREAT BETRAYAL. "News broke Tuesday night that a woman had been fatally stabbed near Great Falls national park. By Wednesday, our suspicions had been confirmed. “The killer was an illegal alien,” my wife said, even as I was still carrying my kids through the door."

At Hat Hair Dave Strom says Nuke Academia From Orbit. It Is the Only Way to Be Sure. "Critical Theory, I keep reminding you, does not seek to communicate anything we understand as "truth" or "reality." It is about asserting power. The goal here is to intimidate everybody with an accusation of racism. To call you a Nazi. To make you quail in terror at the thought that you will face social opprobrium." Melissa Chen @MsMelChen, "You guys realize that the leftist reaction to the Jason Arday case is going to incentivize more and more people to just "self-ID" as autistic or neurodivergent right? Why? Because it instantly unlocks two-tier judgment. There will be massive upside to identify as "neurodivergent" and no downside. It's a choose-your-own-adventure but this time you're just choosing your own alibi. No one challenges the claim, and you might even score an endorsement from figures like autism expert Simon Baron-Cohen. The same excesses that distorted the trans movement will now come for "neurodivergence." Increasingly, mental health status is treated as a moral free pass - permission to act like an asshole or commit crimes (see the Lindsay Clancy case)." Kamel Amin Thaabet @K_AminThaabet, "Israel is murdering children!!!! Now excuse me, I have to go to the rally for Lindsay Clancy." Hat Hair's John Stossel on Racist Tests. At NYPo, Hofstra professor facing possible termination over discrimination claim for saying ‘word salad’, because "racism" of course. From the College Fix, Judge dismisses pro-Hamas professor’s discrimination lawsuit against Columbia. “I’m with Hamas and Hezbollah and Islamic Jihad,” he said on social media." A Driscolly post at Insty starts with CHRISTIAN TOTO: Pop Culture Puts Antisemitism on Blast (Finally).

At the Chronic, Ian Smith offers A Novel Explanation for Woke Culture. "My colleagues would rather I not say this, but I will: As access to mental health care has expanded, so have rates of mental illness. And this isn’t simply a matter of greater awareness leading to more diagnoses. The more therapy people get, the more fragile, anxious, and dysfunctional they seem to become. This isn’t just an individual crisis—it’s a societal one. Which raises an uncomfortable but urgent question: Is modern therapy not only failing patients, but making them—and the culture at large—sicker?"

Flotsam and Jetsam - Sun Comes Up, It's Tuesday Morning

And not a lot of material! Maybe I didn't keep up with the reading. From Althouse, "They were going to build an F.B.I. headquarters three hours away in Maryland, a liberal state. We’re going to stop it.", "Said Trump, last year, quoted in "Judge Rules Trump Administration Can’t Scrap F.B.I. Move to Maryland/The ruling is almost certainly not the end of the lengthy fight over the F.B.I.’s future headquarters, which has lasted for years" (NYT gift link). In a 47-page ruling, Judge Theodore Chuang of the Federal District Court in Maryland wrote that “the F.B.I. erroneously concluded” that it could select a new headquarters for itself without consulting Congress. In reality, Judge Chuang wrote, Congress had already approved the Biden administration plan for the F.B.I. to move to Maryland...." Of course, it's nowhere near 3 hours from DC to Greenbelt, except when traffic snarls (not all that uncommon). I don't care, move the seat of government to Fargo, ND, just to see who really wants to be there.

Red State's Teri Christoph is happy to report Trump Humiliates Obnoxious CNN Reporter After Oval Office Outburst: Ouch! Rapid Response 47 @RapidResponse47, "@POTUS: "You're very disrespectful in front of this young man... You're a loud, boisterous person. You're Fake News. Be quiet. Be quiet. Be quiet. You're a fake reporter and you report FAKE NEWS." I don't think they're capable of shame.

At TownHall Matt Vespa thinks You Won't Believe It, A John Cornyn Staffer Pulled a Benedict Arnold Move. Here's His New Boss, James Talarico campaign. How to admit you have no sincere beliefs in one easy career move. John Waters at RC History, looks at The Next American Right.  "Today, the insurgency has won. What remains is not a bold, dramatic second act, but the far more familiar (and mundane) work of routine governance. We have entered the revolution’s mopping-up phase."

Vicky Taft at PJM asserts Trump's Messaging on the Mullahs Could Be as Powerful as a GBU-57. A bomb is only as good as it's aim. Victory Girls sees Iran Move To Crack Down On Civilians And Survive The Midterms. Armed Forces Press is angry the Media is Pushing the Carrier Crew Mental Health Story As Iran Blockade Is Working. From Althouse, "I just do not understand the mentality. If this is a representation of who our military is now… we’re just Rome sitting here waiting to burn. We’ve got nothing left." |From "Fox Host Trashes U.S. Sailors as ‘Weak’ for Speaking Out About Dire Conditions/Fox News host Joey Jones mocked service members speaking out about conditions aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln" (MTN)." At Twitchy, Messages Scrawled on Aircraft Flap by Service Members Show No Morale, Says Iranian Propagandist. Hat Hair's Capt. Ed wonder if it's Mixed Signals or Taqiyya? Hamas Pledges Disarmament As Iran Plots Wider War. TownHalls Matt Vespa looks at That Time Bill Maher Challenged This Former CBS News Anchor to Find a 'Moderate' Muslim.

Drew Bond at Am Mind assures us of America’s Winning Playbook Against China.

Capt. Ed calls it Off the Deep End: Dems Make 'Abolish ICE' Official Position. Matt Yglesias at Slow Boring asserts Woke 1 is dead. We’ve learned nothingDocumenting Saylor @saylordocs, "Javier Milei: “I thought being on the left was a mental problem. The empirical evidence is so overwhelming that it never worked anywhere, and they refused to accept it.” “But what I discovered is that being on the left is a disease of the soul. The left is built on envy, hatred, resentment, and unequal treatment under the law. They are very violent, and since they have no way or arguments to answer, they go for physical violence.”"

Mediaite watches CNN Data Guru Flags ‘Troubling’ Number for Democrats That May Predict Mike Rogers Victory, "Enten noted Rogers is leading El-Sayed by four points overall and five points among independents." But is it outside the margin of fraud?  Capt. Ed calls her the Spitting Image: El-Sayed Sis Charged With Assault on Illinois State Trooper. I hope she got properly thumped. PJM's Chris Queen thinks Jon Ossoff Sure Seems to Think He's the Next Barack Obama.

Bill Melugin @BillMelugin_, "NEW: The company behind a recent poll that showed Karen Bass with a 12-point lead over Nithya Raman for LA mayor & showed Bass collecting most of Spencer Pratt's prior support has admitted their poll was FAKE and was intended as a "social experiment" to see how a poll could spread in the media ecosystem without verification. The company, Median Strategies, also conducted a recent poll in Wisconsin that had socialist gubernatorial candidate Francesca Hong up by 20 points. Hong lost her primary. It was all bogus. Wild story via @Noah__Goldberg at LAT." At Althouse, Comedian strategies. So polls are often bogus? Who knew? Now let's not always see the same hands.

Capt. Ed calls it a Bombshell: FBI Knew Swalwell Got Illegal Donations From Fang Fang – and More. Julie Kelly @julie_kelly2, "And Jim Comey’s FBI tried to convert Fang Fang into an FBI informant. That should tell us something about the CHS program under Comey." Quote John LeFevre @JohnLeFevre, "The FBI framed a sitting US President for treason, dropped an investigation into Eric Swalwell for having an illicit affair with a Chinese spy, planted fake stories with the media and FISA court, and forced Big Tech to censor critics to influence the 2020 election." Western Lensman @WesternLensman22h, "Fang Fang once approached Victor Davis Hanson and tried to work her magic. VDH: “You would have to be a stupid, narcissistic idiot to fall for that." He's talking about Eric Swalwell."

At NYPo, A liberal journalist just exposed lying Fauci’s toxic relationship with the media. Exposed is a little strong, affirms comes closer.

At Insty, Driscoll is still following the strange case of Dr. Arday, JULIE BURCHILL: "The True Tragedy of the Death of Jason Arday." Hat Hair's Dave Strom believes Racism Did Not Kill Jason Arday

Internewscast reports Harvard Professor Faces Backlash for Allegedly Using AI to Draft Anti-Trump Op-Ed. At least he didn't plagiarize it; there are plenty of templates to follow. Dave Strom wonders, rhetorically, How Endemic Is Fraud in Prestige Academia? Pretty endemic, I know of a few cases in my field, but it's exponentially worse in the "soft sciences" because the consequences are so low. Capt. Ed asks Has Texas Succeeded in Decolonizing Academia? It's doubtful. Hat Hair's Beege Welborn notes that When Even Basic Fractions Are a Math Problem Too Far for College Students. Sadly, my own math skills have begun to degrade from disuse.

Dave Strom hears Don't Say Sophie! Libs of TikTok @libsoftiktok, "Atlanta Dream refused to stand on the court for the National Anthem and then honored Stacey Abrams They ended up LOSING to Indiana Fever 95-91 Lmaooo." BrickCenter @BrickCenter_, "WNBA security told 2 fans to cover their “XX/XY” and “For the girls” shirts or LEAVE the Fever-Dream game. Meanwhile, a “Protect Trans Rights” shirt was featured on the Jumbotron." And Deconstructing Deconstructionism: Royce White and Enes Freedom Tying WNBA Into Knots "Defenders of the WNBA are pointing out, I assume rightly, that the two are just pretending to be women and therefore have no business being in the WNBA. Enes Kantor Freedom and Royce White, on the other hand, are demonstrating by persisting in their efforts that the same is true for every other man who is pretending to be a woman, and they, too, have no business being in women's sports."
