Another miserable day here in Slower Maryland, with temperatures in the lower 70s, no wind, no clouds, and no humidity. Fall is a great season here. Georgia and I met Joel and Red as agreed at 9 AM, and our beach was nearly devoid of people.
A little farther down we met Roy and Theresa with their new dog, whose name I don't remember. A Pit Bull rescued in Baltimore, he's young, and excitable, and not reliably dog friendly, but they're working on it.
You'll probably want to click on this to see it full sized. Do you see something going on there behind the woman walking out on the groin? The photo isn't that good (the camera must have been confused on where to focus).
Yep, that's an Osprey just starting to lift a fish out of the water.
Butterflies? A few. The usual collection of Easter Tiger Swallowtails, and then this somewhat bedraggled Red Spotted Purple who followed us down the beach practically begging me to take his picture.
And this Pearl Crescent.
The pair of Bald Eagles that own this section of beach take a rest in a Tulip Poplar after another successful nesting season. At least I'm pretty sure at least one of the juveniles hanging around the neighborhood this year is one of the theirs.
When we go back to Roy and Theresa, we asked about their tooth hunting. They are serious hunters who use a scoop, and search out beyond the easy reach of shore. And indeed, they had a fine collection from this morning, a beautiful Sand Tiger tooth (note the side cusps)...
As well as some really nice Snaggletooth, and a Mako. Put my measly collection of small teeth to shame.
