Getting Up to Date on Russiagate

Not quite DIY, but let's see if I can get this out easily. Jerry Dunleavy at WaEx hears DOJ says Durham’s report should ‘permit public dissemination, similarly, Natalia Mittlestadt at JTN, DOJ agrees that Durham's report should be released to the public when complete, "The Biden DOJ made the statement in response to inquiries from Sen. Chuck Grassley and Sen. Ron Johnson." But  'Bonchie's', in Rand Paul Asks an Important Question That Demands an Answer ), "Where the hell is the Durham report… (just asking for a friend)," is less sanguine:

Without even delving too deeply into supposition, I think I can answer this one — there will be no Durham report.

Under former AG Bill Barr, transparency and justice were promised following all the disturbing reveals involving how corrupt the FBI and DOJ acted in relation to Donald Trump. Durham was assigned to investigate (and later appointed as special counsel prior to Trump leaving office) and was immediately handed multiple criminal referrals by the DOJ’s inspector general. After refusing to act on all but one of them (Kevin Clinesmith), we’ve heard nothing since. Now, AG Merrick Garland, a political actor if there ever was one, is in charge. Does anyone really think Durham is going to do anything but quietly shutter his activities if he hasn’t already?

Matt Margolis at PJ Media also has doubts, Will Biden DOJ Allow Us to See the Durham Report? I’m Skeptical. Breitbart, has an Exclusive — Classified Report Biden Could Release Provides Intricate Detail on Eric Swalwell Relationship with ‘Fang Fang’. Another report that will never come out.

Dan Chaitin at WaEx busts a meme in Trump did not direct Barr to indict specific officials in Durham inquiry

DOJ, Findings of Misconduct by a Then- Senior FBI Official for Having Numerous Unauthorized Contacts with the Media, and for Accepting Unauthorized Gifts from Members of the Media . So, was it Comey or McCabe? Nick Sherman at JTN, Senior FBI official took free gifts from media while Trump-Russia probe was underway, watchdog says. HE, BREAKING: Top FBI Official Raked in Gifts from Media During Russia Hoax Investigation. Ace, Inspector General: Unnamed "Senior FBI Official" Had Numerous "Substantive" Conversations with Media Prior to 2016 Election, In Defiance of FBI Policy, and Accepted Gifts and Things of Value from the Media, Again in Violation of FBI Policy  "Any guesses as to the identity of this chatty, media-slut "Senior FBI Official ? Either McCabe or Comey, right?" Wa Free Bee, Suspected FBI Leaker Could Evade Consequences "Official accepted gifts from journalists but resigned before inspector general's investigation was completed." John Solomon at JTN has more on the FBI Sexcapades: Bureau rocked by illicit office romances, workplace harassment "Reports and lawsuits cite examples of "skilled predator" supervisor, "frat house" workplace and unwanted sexual advances."

Dan Chaitin again, Jim Jordan requests case file after watchdog finds ex-senior FBI official misconduct in lead-up to 2016 election. The FBI wouldn't listen to him while Republicans were in charge; why would they now? Greg Price at Da Caller takes on the Federal Bureau Of Incompetence: An Analysis Of The FBI’s Most Embarrassing Failures. It's a shockingly long list. At WaEx, Byron York's Daily Memo: For the FBI, a shameful anniversary

Five years ago, on July 31, 2016, the Federal Bureau of Investigation opened Crossfire Hurricane, its investigation of the presidential campaign of former President Donald Trump. Some parts of the bureau had been looking into allegations of collusion between the campaign and Russia even before the investigation began. But on July 31, the FBI started the process that led to a million leaks, enormous damage to candidate Trump, and then President-elect Trump, and then President Trump, the abuse of the government's secret surveillance court to wiretap a low-level Trump adviser, efforts to impeach the president, more leaks, media hysteria, and, finally, the investigation of special counsel Robert Mueller, who could not establish that collusion — he called it "conspiracy" or "coordination" — ever took place, much less that Trump or anyone associated with him was involved with it.

It was a multi-year wild goose chase. And it did incalculable damage to the country. Certainly, some portion of the distrust of the FBI that exists today is the direct result of the bureau's fruitless pursuit of Trump.

I believe the FBI has exceeded its 'use by' date. The agency should be abolished. The upper echelon should simply be dismissed, and the field agents rolled into the Marshalls service.

Revolver has an  Exclusive: General Flynn Reveals Alarming New Details on Russia Hoax

Jordan Davidson at Da Fed says DOJ’s 50-Year Gag Proposal For Grand Jury Material Would Hide Mueller Records Until 2069. Too long for me. Capt. Ed at Hot Hair, Hmmm: Biden admin adopts Trump-era rule demand to keep grand jury records secret ... for 50 years. "One has to wonder why Garland and Biden are pressing this case at all, let alone now. Is it just the kind of routine bureaucratic expansion and CYA we normally expect, or did something more specific prompt it?"

Nathalie Winters at TNP reports CNN Interviewee – Who Demanded Trump Impeachment – Registers As Lobbyist For China’s Huawei. "Former Whitewater prosecutor Stephen Binhak – who called on Congress to impeach Donald Trump amidst conspiracies over Russian collusion – recently registered to lobby on behalf of the Chinese Communist Party-linked tech firm Huawei." I guess you go where the money is. At Da Caller, Senior Trump Official Thomas Barrack Arrested, Charged With FARA Violation and Former Trump Officials Keep Getting Prosecuted For Lobbying For Foreign Governments, But What About The Rest Of The Swamp? It all depends on whether you belong to the "in" crowd.
Former Assistant US Attorney and National Review contributing editor Andrew McCarthy argues that the investigation and indictment of so many Republican figures is evidence of the politicization of the DOJ.

“FARA, which requires Americans who work on behalf of foreign interests to register with DOJ as foreign agents, is not a serious crime… The Justice Department prosecuted it only seven times (and only three times successfully) in the half-century before it was pretextually used in Russiagate to probe the Trump campaign,” he wrote, following the searches of Giuliani’s apartment and office.

“The scrutiny of Giuliani under FARA bears the hallmarks of a constitutionally offensive selective prosecution of a political critic of the president,” McCarthy added.
If I were the Supreme Court, FARA would be overturned immediately on 1st Amendment grounds.

On Da Hill, Justice Department says Trump's tax returns should be released; right after Hunter Biden's.

John Sexton at Hot Hair, Michael Avenatti still proclaiming his innocence in latest trial. Remember, if CNN had their way, he'd be Preznit now. Which might be an improvement. He's crazy, not senile. Also, and not technically Russiagate, but related, Democratic Donor Ed Buck convicted of nine felonies
Nearly two years after he was arrested, Democratic Donor Ed Buck was convicted today of nine felonies which involved the overdose deaths of two men. According to the prosecution, Buck would lure black men into his home and then inject them with meth in exchange for sex. Two of the men died and a third, who testified at the trial, survived because he was able to walk to a nearby gas station to call for help:
Linked at The DaleyGator in Sunday Afternoon/Evening Links, wherein he calls it "the liberal obsession that will not die."
