I got up at, no, well before the crack of dawn this morning with the intention to go fishing. The wind checked out a 5 mph from the NW, so it seemed good to go. A quick breakfast and a cup of coffee, and I had the boat leaving the harbor at 6:30, just in time to hit the sunrise.
As you can see, the bay was basically calm, especially near shore. A little more bouncy out half a mile, to get around the sand spit between the harbor and "Location X."
Fishing was pretty damn good. I caught 31 fish by the 9:30, when I gave it up to a rising north wind. Most of the fish were pretty small, but I managed two over 30 inches, including the one at the right, and several in the mid 20s. Bigger fish close to the deep rushing water at the head of "Location X", and smaller ones out in the tail. Never mind all the dirt on the boat.
Better yet, it appears that the crowds that plagued the place last week have let up. Beside Walleye Pete, who was there with a full complement of 5 anglers, there was only one other boat other than myself. Even so, I managed to tow a fish into Pete's lower unit (but it didn't tangle, and I got the fish).
A blurry, over processed picture of one of the Horned Grebes who have been hanging out at the discharge area, along with Loons, Buffleheads and Old Squaw. This Grebe is all nicely colored in his courting uniform.
A long view of Calvert Cliffs, just south of Flag Ponds Nature Park.
Pete, or at least Pete's crew trying to put a few more fish on the boat before it's time to leave.
