If You Hear Wingbeats, Think Zebras

Zebra Swallowtails that is:

This one hung around the yard a while yesterday afternoon, before I went fishing.

It's been a good week for butterflies as the weather warms up. In addition to the Tiger Swallowtail I posted a couple of days ago, I've seen Clouded Sulfurs, Falcate Orangetips, Common Sootywing, and passels of Spring Azures and Henry's Elfins.

The Spring Azures are tough to get pictures of the top surface, as they rarely spread their wings when alit, and they rarely slow down long enough to get a decent picture from above in flight. While not a great photos, these two will give you an idea of how they look.

A Henry's Elfin, on the apple tree in our back yard.
