We left for the beach early this morning, about 8:30, to escaped the heat, mostly for Skye's sake. It was partially cloudy, and had a west breeze to help as well.
One of the first things to show up at the beach was this Monarch Butterfly, the first I've seen this year. As you may know, Monarch's have a long, annual multigenerational migration, where the butterflies that leave the south in Spring are not the butterflies that leave from the north in Autumn. They depend on various Milkweeds for their caterpillars to eat, so I imagine they have timed to the milkweeds along the route.
A lucky shot, just barely at the extreme edge of the little camera's capabilities. This was in the corner of the actual picture, and cropped to 100% of the actual pixels.
A crab boat making it's daily run down the coast. Not exactly "Deadliest Catch" material, but real work in the hot sun, the vicious crabs (they are much more aggressive than their frozen Alaskan relatives), and the Sea Nettles which often come up tangled with the pots. They're thick out there now.
