The Justice Department on Thursday moved to drop its case against former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, in a stunning development that comes after internal memos were released raising serious questions about the nature of the investigation that led to Flynn’s late 2017 guilty plea of lying to the FBI.

The announcement came in a court filing "after a considered review of all the facts and circumstances of this case, including newly discovered and disclosed information," as the department put it. DOJ officials said they concluded that Flynn's interview by the FBI was "untethered to, and unjustified by, the FBI's counterintelligence investigation into Mr. Flynn" and that the interview was "conducted without any legitimate investigative basis."

But this happened first, I think, Gregg Re at Fox Mueller prosecutor withdraws from Flynn case after questions surface concerning his compliance with court order. Either not pleased his life's planned finest moment was being dismissed, or getting getting his affairs in order before the ax falls, take your pick. He removed himself from other cases, but no word if he's actually resigned from DOJ, yet.

Thursday’s action was swiftly embraced by Trump, who has relentlessly tweeted about the “outrageous” case and last week pronounced Flynn “exonerated,” and it is likely to energize supporters of the president who have taken up the retired Army lieutenant general as a cause.

But it will also add to Democratic complaints that Attorney General William Barr is excessively loyal to the president and could be a distraction for a Justice Department that has sought to focus on crimes arising from the coronavirus.

“Attorney General Barr’s politicization of justice knows no bounds,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said. She accused Barr’s department of “dropping the case to continue to cover up for the president.”

The DoJ’s Inspector General found that James Comey “set a dangerous example” as FBI Director for leaking classified info for personal gain.

The DOJ is releasing a series of additional documents to support their decision to drop the case against Lt. General Michael Flynn [download here]. Not coincidentally, at the same time these additional documents are being released, a fracture in the core group of coup plotters is surfacing. The bigger picture is now the former DOJ -vs- former FBI.

The dynamic of distinction is interesting to watch unfold. Prior DOJ officials pointing to corrupt decisions by prior FBI officials. This is the fracture that will bring down the fraud. This was always why we needed the declassification process. Things are happening fast.

I think the "panic" idea goes like this: Schiff has claimed that he had "direct evidence," based on the transcripts, that Trump colluded with Russia.

But, per sources, all 53 of the people Schiff interviewed said they had no evidence of such collusion.

The release of the transcripts would prove Schiff a liar.

But here's the thing:

Doesn't everyone know that already? The media and the NeverTrump "conservatives" know he was lying. They've always known, or suspected, he was lying.

But they're unprincipled, deranged monsters who have recognized a new specie of lie called the "Noble Lie." You know, like Harry Reid lying about Mitt Romney not paying taxes for ten years.
