Election 2020: When Trump Does it It's a Lie, When They Do it It's a Mistake?

The story du jour is the admission by the Washington Post that the story they initiated (and, of course was touted  by all the liberal press) that President Trump threatened the Georgia Secretary of State investigator and urged her to "find the votes" necessary to overturn the election in Georgia turned out to be misinformation, after a recording of the actual conversation was recovered from a digital trash can: Dan Chaitin at WaEx, Media misquoted Trump in notorious phone call with Georgia investigator

Early media accounts of a phone call between former President Donald Trump and a top Georgia investigator contained false quotes, prompting at least two major media outlets to issue a correction or update.

The Wall Street Journal first published audio last week of the roughly six-minute call on Dec. 23 between Trump and Frances Watson, the chief investigator of the Georgia Secretary of State’s office, in which Trump urged her to look for fraud in mail-in ballots in Fulton County, where much of Atlanta is located.

Indeed, Trump can be heard telling Watson, who was in the middle of conducting an audit of voting results in Cobb County, that he won the 2020 election and that she would be "praised" when the "right answer comes out." He also insisted "something bad happened."
. . .
In response to Trump, the investigator said: "I can assure you that our team and the [Georgia Bureau of Investigation], that we are only interested in the truth and finding the information that is based on the facts."

However, the audio shows that early reports in January about that call, based on anonymous sourcing, misquoted Trump. In those reports, Trump was quoted as urging Watson to "find the fraud," and if she did so, the investigator would be a "national hero."

Outlets such as CNN published these quotes, corroborating what was first reported by the Washington Post. The Washington Examiner published an article at the time based on the Washington Post's article.

The Washington Post stuck a long correction note to the top of its report:
Correction: Two months after publication of this story, the Georgia secretary of state released an audio recording of President Donald Trump’s December phone call with the state’s top elections investigator. The recording revealed that The Post misquoted Trump’s comments on the call, based on information provided by a source. Trump did not tell the investigator to “find the fraud” or say she would be “a national hero” if she did so. Instead, Trump urged the investigator to scrutinize ballots in Fulton County, Ga., asserting she would find “dishonesty” there. He also told her that she had “the most important job in the country right now.” A story about the recording can be found here. The headline and text of this story have been corrected to remove quotes misattributed to Trump.

The Washington Post just admitted to publishing fabricated quotes that suggested Trump was attempting a coup. This would be enough to tank the entire paper if there was any semblance of journalistic integrity left. https://breitbart.com/the-media/2021/03/15/washington-post-admits-trumps-find-the-fraud-quote-was-fake-news/

Switching gears to the Capitol incursion, and the resulting militarization of Washington D.C., Stacy McCain takes on The Conspiracy Theory at the Heart of the Capitol ‘Insurrection’ Prosecutions

Julie Kelly calls attention to the federal government’s case against Christopher Worrell of Cape Coral, Florida, as evidence that prosecutions of the Jan. 6 Capitol rioters are an attempt to criminalize political dissent. The feds do not even claim that Worrell entered the Capitol, but instead devote an enormous amount of effort to proving that Worrell (a) is a member of the Proud Boys and (b) sprayed pepper spray at a cop.

Let’s be clear: I am against pepper-spraying cops. However, there are a lot of Antifa who have done much worse than that, without being charged with federal felonies. So why did the FBI and the ATF raid Worrell to arrest him on felony charges? Julie Kelly explains:
. . .
The case against Worrell and other rioters relies on the assertion that what they intended was not merely a protest against what they believed to be a massive election fraud, but rather an actual effort to prevent certification of the election results — an “insurrection.”

It is for this reason that the feds have devoted such enormous efforts to identifying members of the protest crowd, including those who, like Christopher Worrell, apparently never even went inside the Capitol on Jan. 6. Probably it was his association with Proud Boys that made Worrell such a high-priority target of the FBI. The Proud Boys are an “extremist” group, according to the feds, and therefore every member who was in D.C. on Jan. 6 is apparently a focus in the “insurrection” investigation. But having met both Gavin McInnes and Enrique Tarrio, I don’t consider either of them to be terrorist threats, and the case for regarding them as such seems to rely on the dubious tautology that anyone who is an enemy of Antifa must be a fascist. In other words, the official position of the U.S. Justice Department seems to be that any organized opposition to Antifa is a terrorist group.

There was some backpedaling and apologizing by a couple of the official accounts that went after Carlson, but the real problem is that they felt comfortable doing it in the first place.
