Election 2020: Arizona Audit On

Sundance at CTH, Maricopa County, Arizona, Audit is Underway – Livestream CCTV Video and Links – Open Discussion Thread. The feed isn't currently working. Taking Sunday off?

The Arizona Senates’ hand count of all 2.1 million Maricopa County ballots cast in November’s presidential election is underway. You can watch all of the security cameras at THIS LINK.

The auditors are trying to be as transparent as possible knowing the outcome, if it turns out as predicted to find significant fraud, will be legally challenged. [Twitter Account Here] There is also a YouTube livestream of the events as they take place:

The WaPoo whines that the  GOP-backed recount of Maricopa County ballots appears on track to move forward after initial pause ordered by Arizona judge

An extensive effort to recount ballots from the November election moved forward in Phoenix on Friday as a private vendor hired by Republicans in the Arizona Senate began reviewing nearly 2.1 million ballots cast in the state’s largest county.

The recount of the ballots from Maricopa County was sought by Senate Republicans to examine unsubstantiated claims that fraud or errors tainted President Biden’s win.

Election officials and the courts have found no merit to such allegations, and the GOP-led county board of supervisors has objected to the recount.

After state Democrats filed a lawsuit this week to halt the proceedings, an Arizona judge on Friday ordered that the recount be paused for the weekend to consider their allegations that the process violates state laws governing the security of ballots.

However, he required that the Democratic Party post a $1 million bond to cover the potential costs of a delay. On Friday afternoon, the state party said it would not put up the money, meaning the recount is on track to press ahead.

Earlier this week, Senate Republicans exercised a subpoena to move voting equipment and ballots from county storage to the floor of the Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum, where they have said a team of private companies will spend the next four weeks conducting a hand recount of ballots and a forensic audit of voting machines.

Dan Chaitin at WaEx reports that Rachel Madcow is positively apoplectic over this: Rachel Maddow warns of 'dangerous' 2020 election audit in Arizona

MSNBC's Rachel Maddow predicted "long run" consequences to the GOP-backed 2020 election audit in Maricopa County, Arizona.

The opinion host told her audience on Friday that supporters of former President Donald Trump will use the process to cast doubt on the results "in a way that none of their failed lawsuits in the past have been able to do."

Maddow also noted that the people hired by the Republican-led Arizona Senate to conduct the audit of the county now have possession of the election materials in the county that includes Phoenix, calling them "conspiracy theorists." President Joe Biden won Maricopa County, which has already undergone two prior audits finding no issues, as well as the state of Arizona.

Clearly afraid they'll find enough evidence to add another asterisk after President* Biden.  CNN, Trump supporters could be incited to future violence by his continued promotion of 2020 election lies, DOJ and judges say. The DOJ has never been exactly Trump's friend, and now that AG* Merrick Garland is in charge, is likely to go back to being expressly anti Trump. As for the judge:

Federal Judge Emmet Sullivan raised some of Trump's other recent comments in a written opinion Tuesday that kept in jail one of the men accused of dragging and beating police on the Capitol's terrace.

"The Court is not convinced that dissatisfaction and concern about the legitimacy of the election results has dissipated for all Americans. Former President Donald J. Trump continues to make forceful public comments about the 'stolen election,' chastising individuals who did not reject the supposedly illegitimate results that put the current administration in place," Sullivan wrote.

The issue came up Thursday at a hearing for another defendant in the same case.

"The unfounded allegations are out there, and they're being made constantly by the former President," Sullivan said, prompting a defense attorney to condemn Trump's comments as "absolutely reprehensible" and express hope that "somebody" will "try to stop" the lying.

The defendants that Sullivan was worried could commit future violence -- Jack Whitton of Georgia and Michael Lopatic of Pennsylvania -- have remained in jail since their arrests.

You might remember Judge Emmet Sullivan from the Gen. Flynn fiasco. He is not exactly a paragon of objectivity in the matter of Donald Trump.
