June 9, 2013 Beach Report

The morning was just beginning to work up to being steamy.  We're expecting around 90 for a high temperature today, and possible afternoon thunderstorms, and the atmosphere clearly has the moisture to support them.
There were lots of people out at the beach today, sightseeing or sharks tooth hunting (you can do both simultaneously)...
 ...walking the dog...
 ...canoeing...
 ...playing oopsie daisy...
 ...digging in the sand...
...just laying in the sun, or...
...hunting butterflies in the sand dunes.  I found a couple, this Cabbage White (Pieris rapae)...
...and this American Painted Lady (Vanessa virginiensis) (as opposed to the wider ranging Painted Lady (Vanessa cardui). While there are other differences in their patterns, the easiest way (at least for me) to tell them apart is the small white dot surrounded by orange in the top surface of the wing.  The Americans have it, and the Amereurasian doesn't.
