Beach Report 7/24/21

On our way past the harbor today, we caught this Green Heron posing on a dock line
A Swamp-Rose Mallow growing along side the harbor.
The wide showy flowers of Rose-Mallow signal the start of summer, as they bloom profusely in moist areas until September. Each flower is open for only a day, but they follow sequentially over time. The bloom is a larger version of okra, cotton or hollyhocks which are also members of the mallow family. The flowers are usually white or pink, but may be a pale yellow. All have a red or maroon center and a projecting column of stamens.
It was partly cloudy and in the upper 70s, with humidity starting to build back in. Despite a relatively high tide we managed 28 teeth, none spectacular, a drum's tooth, a crab claw and a piece of sting ray barb. It being Saturday, there were a fair number of people at the beach, and Skye got her due number of pets.
The Great Blue Heron seems to have adopted Whitey's favorite rocks as it's hangout.
