ET, Jan. 6 Detainees Confined 23 Hours a Day, Attorneys Say. The process is the punishment.
Lawyers John Pierce and Steven Metcalf II, who represent several of the defendants, told EpochTV’s “The Nation Speaks” that among the close to 500 arrested so far in connection with the Jan. 6 incident, more than 50 are being held pretrial in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day, in conditions that are “unconstitutional” and violate “every single basic human right.”
Pierce said these individuals are being detained by federal judges under the 1984 Bail Reform Act, which, under certain circumstances, authorizes pretrial detention if it’s believed the individuals are a threat to the community or a flight risk.
Karen Townsend at Hot Hair wonders Say, why is the U.S. Capitol still closed to the public? Because citizens are so inconvenient to Nancy Pelosi. At Am Great, Julie Kelly has 20 Questions for Nancy Pelosi About January 6.
1) Why were requests made by USCP, a federal agency under the purview of Congress, for extra security ahead of January 6 denied?
2) Why did law enforcement including USCP and D.C. Metro Police show up wearing full riot gear including gas masks and batons?
3) Who authorized police to attack the peaceful crowd with flashbangs, sting balls, and tear gas around 1:00 p.m.?
4) Have any police officers been charged with assault?
5) Who seeded the lie that Brian Sicknick was killed in the line of duty and who told the New York Times he was murdered by a Trump mob with a fire extinguisher?
. . .
It’s unlikely, of course, that Pelosi’s truth-seeking mission will result in anything more than reheated political spin, recriminations, and fuel for nonstop media attention. But Americans, and Republican leaders including Donald Trump, should keep asking legitimate questions and demanding truthful answers.

Fred Fleitz at Da Fed, The NSA Does Not Deny Reading Tucker Carlson’s Emails
I laughed when Fox News host Tucker Carlson said a National Security Agency (NSA) whistleblower told him that agency was monitoring his emails to leak them in an attempt to take his show off the air. From my 19 years as a CIA analyst and five years with House Intelligence Committee staff, I found this impossible to believe, for three reasons.
. . .
I therefore dismissed Carlson’s claim that the NSA was reading his emails. Then I saw this extraordinary denial from the NSA . . .
