Spring is starting to really get into gear here. It was well into the 60s here, and sunny
I'm fairly sure this is a female Red-Wing Blackbird. It was all by itself, so I didn't get to see the red patch on the wings. Not in itself necessarily a sign of spring, but a bird we don't see often.
In the last couple of weeks, the male American Goldfinches visiting the feeder have started to molt into their bright summer uniforms.
Our Daffodils started blooming a late last week, about the time a few struggling Crocuses croaked . . .
and our Windflowers . . .
and the Periwinkle (not the snail). We have masses of this growing in the semi-wild edges of our property.
Even the Flag Iris in the pond is starting to grow. It won't flower until about mid to late May, if it even flowers at all. We replanted it in fresh soil in fall, and that might have set it back.
