Centreville Dam |
The Centreville Town Council has approved several grants to help fund the removal of the town's dam. The council approved two grants on March 7. One from the Chesapeake Bay Trust for $40,000 and another from American Rivers for $11,732.Cheeses K. Riest! Look at how small that damn dam is, and they're talking $50k to figure out how to do it and $110k to do the work! Take 20 minutes or so to find, or dig a place to put a couple of sticks of dynamite, buy a keg and invite everybody to the party. How hard can this be?
According to Eva Kerchner, the town's zoning administrator, she applied for the grants about two or three months ago to get additional funds for the construction and removal of the town dam.
On February 7, the town council approved a $161,000 grant from the National Fish & Wildlife Foundation. The funds will be divided with about $50,000 for the design and about $110,000 for the construction.
The town has not yet met with an engineer to figure out an estimate for the construction plans. According to Kerchner, the project will most likely cost more than $161,000, which is why additional grants were needed. Kerchner is currently working to acquire two additional grants and if additional funds are needed, she will search for even more, she said.
Or just buy the keg, and give everybody who shows up a pick.
I doubt they can make it much worse.
