Oregon, My Oregon

From the Cowboy State Daily, Tourists Try To Ride Elk Which Are Taking Over Beaches In Coastal Oregon Town

It’s a sight most in Wyoming would consider extremely odd: herds of elk lounging around the beach.

That’s what’s happening in the small Oregon coastal town of Cannon Beach, where elk are taking over the beaches, looking completely out of context in the sand and surf.

And as in Yellowstone National Park, Estes Park, Colorado and other places where people and elk are in close proximity, some people behave stupidly, said James Paino, executive director of the local chamber of commerce.

“We have a lot of visitors who just don't think that it (an elk) is a wild animal,” he said. "I’ve seen people try to put their kids on an elk’s back, or walk up and feed them carrots."

The elk could possibly drawn to the beach seeking saltwater therapy for biting pests.

“It’s not uncommon to see elk going out into saltwater. It’s commonly thought to be therapeutic for external parasites, such as fleas,” said Paul Atwood, a district wildlife biologist for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The Roosevelt Elk live in many regions of Oregon, including Southern Oregon, where we used to own land. We occasionally saw them there, but more often just ran across hoof prints or poo.

My late lamented brother Ted had an unusual encounter with a big bull in rutting season, once, out of hunting season. He was out hiking the back hills, with his dog Spook, a notorious killer of game and vermin up to the size of White-tailed Deer, and carrying, as was his habit, his rifle (.257 Roberts, IIRC). They encountered the bull in a clearing. Spook chased the bull, the bull chased Spook, Spook chased the bull, the bull chased Spook, and Spook went back to Ted, who stood there with his rifle ready until the bull decided that maybe that wasn't the hill to die on and wandered off.

The elk are also very common at Prairie Creek State Park in Calif, where the often congregate in large numbers near the Park entrance off Highway 101 in the Redwood country. A fair amount of tourist stupidity occurs here as well I've heard.

Thursday Tanlines

A white woman who 'identifies as black' has revealed she is planning to 'move to Africa'.

Martina Big, 36, who is from Germany, and her husband Michael Eurwen, 38, both inject Melanotan, a synthetic hormone to darken their skin, and have faced fierce backlash over the years from those who insist they'll 'never be black'.

But the glamour model, who has 32T breasts after operations to enhance them, has since claimed she's 'received invitations from fans in many African countries'.

Now Big and her partner are planning to move to the continent, with the influencer saying: 'My husband and I had already planned to emigrate a few years ago, but then the pandemic hit. 'We have received invitations from fans in many African countries and so it hasn't been easy to choose,' Big said. 'Currently, we have Kenya and Namibia on our shortlist.

'Since most of my modelling jobs are in Europe and the US, Michael fears it will be difficult for me to earn money in Africa. I've had to work hard to convince him that this is the best decision for us.'

The glamour model - who goes by the name of Malaika Kubwa, meaning Big Angel in Swahili, after a baptism ceremony - claims to have the largest breasts in Europe.

From the College Fix, Maryland noose not ‘racist’ or ‘anti-black’: principal

But ‘imagery is deeply harmful’

Another noose found at a high school may simply be a rope.

Earlier this week, a “staff member” at Sherwood High School “discovered a small rope tied in a manner resembling a noose, draped over the fence surrounding the school’s tennis courts,” according to an email from the principal, republished by MocoShow. The Ashton-Sandy Spring high school quickly contacted police.

“Through a review of our security footage, three individuals were identified and interviewed,” Principal Timothy Britton wrote to the community of the Maryland high school. “We are now in the process of determining appropriate consequences in accordance with the [Montgomery County Public Schools] Student Code of Conduct.”

The principal apologized for the rope, despite there being no “racist” or “anti-Black message” behind it.

Britton wrote:
While our investigation determined that the individuals involved did not intend to communicate a racist or anti-Black message, the impact of such imagery is deeply harmful and cannot be understated. We recognize how disturbing and upsetting this symbol can be, particularly to our Black community members, and we are treating this matter with the utmost seriousness.

At Sherwood High School, we are committed to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and safe environment for every student. This incident underscores the importance of ongoing education and dialogue around issues of race, respect, and cultural sensitivity. We will continue to address this in partnership with our students, staff, and families to ensure that such incidents are not repeated.
This is not the first time during this new school year a rope has turned out to just be a rope.
Several weeks ago, a black parent at a Missouri school reported a noose found in the school bathroom.

“Wow, are we still doing this, did this really just happen,” Long, who is black, told the media, recounting his reaction. “Too many of our black and brown babies have those struggles in our schools,” Long told KSDK 5.

The district concluded, however, that it was not “racially motivated.” It was left by a “kid in crisis,” according to First Alert 4.

Still, the local NAACP blamed the rope on proposals by the Francis Howell School District’s conservative members to restrict access to some inappropriate books and to keep males out of female bathrooms.

This is just grievance mongering from the grievance mongering industry. Loops, and nooses of various different kinds are commonly tied in ropes for all kinds of different reasons. The classic hangman's knot is rarely seen because of the bad connotations, but bowlines, slip knots, and others are essential to using ropes effectively. It's just silly to expect that no rope seen in public have any type of loop, just to avoid offending the sensibilities of idiots.

UPI, URL on Maryland license plates now leads to gambling website

Transport officials in Maryland confirmed a website address printed on hundreds of thousands of Maryland license plates now redirects to a gambling site based in the Philippines.

The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration confirmed the War of 1812 license plates, which were the state's default plates from 2012 to 2016, bear a URL that no longer leads to its intended website.

The plates, designed by the War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission, bear the URL www.starspangled200.org, which was originally the website for Star-Spangled 200 Inc., the commission-affiliated nonprofit that raised funds for bicentennial projects and events.

Residents recently reported the website now redirects to a gambling website based in the Philippines.

The MVA estimated the URL is printed on 798,000 active Maryland license plates.

The administration said it is not affiliated in any way with the website currently using the URL, and the MVA's information technology department is working on options to resolve the issue.

Maybe, just maybe, they should have kept up the payments to the company that provides domain names.

We don't have one, alas.

You May No Longer Say Someone is Outstanding in their Field

She's outstanding in her field
It offends the easily offended. At the Free Bacon, Michigan Cites Racism in Decision To Ban Term 'Field Worker' ‘While the widespread use of this term is not intended to be harmful, we cannot ignore the impact its use has on our employees’

Michigan’s Department of Health and Human Services says it will no longer use the words "field worker" in agency communications, citing the term's "implication for descendants of enslaved Black and Brown individuals."

The department said "staff and stakeholders have raised concerns" about the term’s allegedly racist connotations, according to a January 4 memo obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.

"While the widespread use of this term is not intended to be harmful, we cannot ignore the impact its use has on our employees," the memo reads. "Establishing shared language is essential to our collective progress."

The memo came from Demetrius Starling, the director of the department’s Children’s Services Agency, and Dwayne Haywood, the director of the department’s Economic Stability Administration, neither of whom responded to requests for comment. Its letterhead includes Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer (D.), who in 2021 mandated "implicit bias training" for all health professionals in the state.

The government of Michigan is not the only progressive body to put "field" out to pasture. On Monday, the University of Southern California’s school of social work announced that it had removed the term from its curriculum, citing the need to "reject white supremacy."

"This change supports anti-racist social work practice by replacing language that could be considered anti-Black or anti-immigrant," an email from the university’s education department said. "Phrases such as ‘going into the field’ or ‘field work’ may have connotations for descendants of slavery and immigrant workers that are not benign."

Formerly known as the "field education department," the school’s education program will now be called the "practicum education department."

Sheer lunacy. Back when I was an active scientist, "field work" was the best part.

Tattoo Thursday

A British woman who boasts of having “the world’s most heavily tattooed vagina” is clapping back at critics after going public with her bawdy body art. NSFW

Last week, Becky Holt, 34, spoke about her “painful” labia inking, saying it took a tattoo artist five separate sessions to complete the daring design.

Holt has been attacked online, but the blonde blasted back in an interview with The Post on Monday, defiantly stating: “It’s my vagina, not theirs.”

The mom-of-one has spent $42,000 adorning almost every inch of her body with tattoos — and realized that her vagina was one of the last places left without ink.

“It didn’t really occur to me to have it [my vagina] tattooed,” Holt told The Post. “I had everything tattooed right down to where my [labia] starts, and around my thighs and groin and my little vagina would stick out like a sore thumb.”

“You could see this little pink vagina with colored tattoos all around it, so I thought ‘I’m going to have to get it done,'” she further explained.

Is The Internet Making People Crazy?

It sure seems like it, take the case of  the
Courtney Clenney
OnlyFans star who 'stabbed her boyfriend to death then posted racey pics on social media'

Courtney Clenney, 25, known on her social media platforms as Courtney Tailor, was detained and later taken to a mental institution.

Police say she killed 27-year-old Christian Obumseli after an altercation in an apartment complex in Miami, Florida. He was due to turn 28 next week, people close to him said.

"We know that there was a physical altercation between them before he was stabbed," a Miami PD spokesperson said.

Cops found her boyfriend stabbed once in the shoulder at a luxury apartment that Clenney herself summoned them to, reports said.

He was rushed to hospital but he succumbed to his injuries.

Friends of the couple said they were shocked by the death, but added that Clenney had been violent towards Obumseli in the past.

“We’ve seen her hit him," Ashley Vaughn said. "I’ve never seen him hit her."
. . .
Police said that the threat led to an evaluation, causing her to be "Baker Acted," wherein a person can be committed to a mental health institution for 72 hours when such threats are made.

Although she was detained on April 3, OnlyFans content was somehow still posted on Clenney's account the day after.

Clenney does not face any charges for Obumseli’s death as things stand.

So, only OnlyFans has autopost? I would have suspected so anyway.

Alice Irving
Then there's the case of the the Former cult leader, 24, tells how followers worshipped her seven deadly sins 'sermons'

An OnlyFans star was once the leader of a cult with thousands of men paying huge sums of money just to hear her speak.

Alice Irving, 24, formed the cult around the seven deadly sins - pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath and sloth - with members all joining with at least one plaguing their life.

"A cult is seen really negatively, but it's just a group of people worshipping an idea, a leader, they all believe in the same ideology or idea or person," she told the Daily Star.

The Canadian-born model only had one rule -

absolutely no meeting in person.

Instead the blokes would pay Alice for the pleasure of joining virtual chat rooms or "clubs", each relating to one of the seven sins.

"There were different levels", she explained.

"People would donate every month and it would start at $10 (£7.6), then $100 (£76), $1,000 (£760), $10,000 (£7,600) and $100,000 (£76,000) per month."

Each level would give the sinners varying amounts of access to Alice's wisdom, starting with access to her social media pages and including video messages or one hour FaceTime calls.

She, on the other hand, does not sound crazy at all. But the men who paid her do. I'm reminded the apocryphal story that Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov and L. Ron Hubbard were sitting around bullshitting at a Sci-Fi convention one time, and they bet on who could found a religion first.

I can see people following her, but not like that.

At Not The Bee, Oregon Gov. Kate Brown blasts Texas, says she stands with “LGBTQ2SIA+” children.

Oregon Governor Kate Brown has put out a statement on Twitter criticizing Texas's new policy that prosecutes people who try to force kids to transition as child abusers.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott Says It's The State's Duty To Prosecute Sex-Change Operations For Minors As Child Abuse 👏👏👏This is some real courage and guts from the Republican governor of Texas, Greg Abbott. NOTTHEBEE.COM

That's a righteous and moral policy if I've ever seen one.

Of course, this is beyond the pale for the wacky left coasters like the Governor of Oregon, who once wore this mask:

Kate Brown has to now re-up her insane leftist credentials by putting out this virtue-signaling nonsense video.

If you had asked me to make up a new, more inclusive LGBT acronym, I don't think I could come up with anything as ridiculous as what is apparently the totally serious new acronym that up until the #CurrentYear, only wacky activists (and Justin Trudeau, but I repeat myself) were using.
LGBTQ2SIA+

They should really adopt the Not the Bee acronym LGBTETC and call it a day. Really
Apparently the 2SIA stands for "2-Spirited, Intersex, and Asexual."

At NR, Oregon Proposal Would Redefine Breeding as a ‘Sexual Assault’ on Animals

People wrongly think of the animal-rights movement as a more energetic form of animal-welfare advocacy. It is not. Rather, animal-rights activists intend to eventually outlaw all ownership of animals, a project they recognize as multi-generational.

Often, activists mask their actual intentions. But a proposed Oregon constitutional amendment, currently in the petition-signing stage, illustrates the extent of animal-rights radicalism.

The proposed amendment would essentially criminalize many of the practices required to raise and slaughter food animals. First, it would remove current exemptions in the law for “good animal husbandry” practices that protect ranchers and others from being charged with abuse for injuring an animal. From Initiative Petition 13 (the bracketed sections delete current law, my emphasis):

A person commits the crime of animal abuse in the second degree if, except as [otherwise authorized by law] necessary to defend him or herself against an apparent threat of immediate violence, the person intentionally, knowingly or recklessly causes physical injury to an animal. [(2) Any practice of good animal husbandry is not a violation of this section.]
The food industry routinely kills animals by mortally injuring them. Other practices such as castration of steers, also would constitute “injury.” By removing the “good animal husbandry” exemptions — and note, “good” practices do not permit abuse — necessary activities of raising animals for food would seem to be criminalized.

And here’s the real kicker. Breeding animals, other than through animal intercourse, would be considered a sexual offense, akin to bestiality:
Section 6. ORS 167.333 is amended to read:
(1) A person commits the crime of sexual assault of an animal if the person:
(a) Touches or contacts, or causes an object or another person to touch or contact, the mouth, anus or sex organs of an animal or animal carcass for the purpose of:
(A) [a]Arousing or gratifying the sexual desire of [a person] either party; or
(B) Breeding domestic, livestock, and equine animals as defined in ORS 167.310; or
(b) Causes an animal or animal carcass to touch or contact the mouth, anus or sex organs of a person for the purpose of arousing or gratifying the sexual desire of [a person] either party
This provision would make artificial insemination of a cow a sexual offense because it involves touching that cow’s sex organs with the sperm-containing syringe! It would also prohibit the acts necessary to obtain bull sperm for that purpose.

This is a classic example of the rural/urban split. Oregon politics are dominated by Portland and a few Willamette Valley cities (I'm looking at you Corvallis, Salem and Eugene) who no longer like to think about where food comes from any more. I blame the refugees from California.

Fox, Oregon governor signs bill suspending math, reading proficiency requirements for HS graduates

Gov. Kate Brown, the Oregon Democrat, signed a bill last month with little fanfare that drops the requirement that high school students prove proficiency in reading, writing or math, before graduation, a report said.

The Oregonian reported that the governor has seemed to avoid discussing Senate Bill 744. Her move to sign the bill was "not public until recently, because her office did not hold a signing ceremony or issue press release." The paper also pointed out that the bill was first signed on July 14 but not added into the state’s database until July 29 due to a glitch in the system.
. . .
In June, state lawmakers voted to approve the bill that suspended the requirements for students for three years, KATU reported. Foundations for a Better Oregon said in a statement at the time that the bill is intended to "truly reflect what every student needs to thrive in the 21st century." Supporters of the bill insist that considering math and reading essential skills has been an unfair challenge for students who do not test well. The report said the requirement was first suspended at the start of the pandemic.

Sundance at CTH in Oregon Governor Drops Reading, Writing and Math Proficiency Standards For High School Graduation, Office Says it will Help People of Color

The governors office says “suspending the reading, writing and math proficiency requirements … will benefit “Oregon’s Black, Latino, Latina, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, Tribal, and students of color.”

In essence, the students of color are not smart enough to learn reading, writing or math – so they shouldn’t be expected to read, write or understand mathematics.

Kate Brown looks, sounds and acts like a typical left-wing moonbat. It’s hard to imagine a state governor saying the minority students in the state are not smart enough to pass proficiency standards; thereby signaling her extreme racist perspectives- and gaining cheers from her leftist tribe; yet here we are.

Too damn many Californians moved to Oregon.

Maryland, My Maryland

I was saddened to find this at Pirate's Cove today: Not National News: Teenager With Airsoft Gun Shot By Police

Will we get riots over this? Maryland trooper shoots, kills teenager who had airsoft gun
A Maryland State Police trooper responding to a pair of 911 calls shot and killed a teenager who was pointing what investigators determined was an airsoft gun at him, authorities said Tuesday.

The shooting occurred after state police received two 911 calls about someone acting suspicious, Superintendent Woodrow Jones II told a news conference. The first caller said he thought the person had a gun, left a telephone number but didn’t give an address before hanging up, Jones said.

A second caller gave a street address for the suspicious person that was a short distance from the Leonardtown barracks, but the caller hung up before identifying themselves, Jones said.
Anyone thinking this was a setup in some manner?
Jones said the trooper, who responded alone, encountered Peyton Ham, 16, who he said had a gun and a knife. According to the superintendent, a witness said they saw Ham in the driveway of the home “in a shooting stance” and pointing a weapon at the trooper.

“The trooper fired at the male, wounding him,” Jones said. According to another witness, Ham then pulled out a knife and tried to get up.

“The trooper ordered him to drop the knife before he fired again,” Jones said, adding that the trooper reported the shooting and called for emergency personnel while other troopers gave first aid. Ham was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Jones said.

An investigation revealed that the weapon Ham wielded was an airsoft gun, which is commonly used to shoot BBs and which Jones called “a close representation of an actual handgun.”

Airsoft guns look realistic, but they are supposed to have an identifying orange barrel tip. Could that have been removed? To me, this sounds a little like suicide by cop, but I'll wait for further information (probably in vain) before making any kind of conclusion.

It’s simple: do not point any firearm, real or fake, at law enforcement officers. Or anyone else that is armed. You may not like the results. Or you family may not like the results, because you’ll be dead. If officers show up, put it down. This is pure common sense, which is in serious lack these days. When do the riots start and the media make a big deal out of this? When is Walgreen’s, Port Of Leonardtown Wines, and Dunkin get looted? There’s not much more in Leonardtown, it’s small town on the shore of the tip of Maryland south of D.C.
The teenager was white, as is the trooper who shot him, according to Maryland State Police spokesman Greg Shipley.
Oh. Never to both. It’s a small town, with both the main office for the State Police in the county and the Sheriff’s office.

We rarely visit Leonardtown, which is across the bridge in Solomons, and then all the way across the peninsula formed by the Patuxent and Potomac Rivers, about 25 miles away. As Teach says, its a small town, with about 3,000 people as of 2010 (probably more like 4,000 now, I would guess), although we have attended the St. Mary's County Fair there a few times. It might be hard to get a decent riot started in Leonardtown.

The AP story did make the Post, so I suppose it isn't true that this is not "national news", but nevertheless, this won't draw the same scrutiny as Duante Wright in Minnesota.

Election 2020: Still Chugging Along

Say, so how's that impeachment going, anyway? Susan Ferrechio at WaEx wonders The House impeached Trump again, but what about the trial? Byron York's Daily Memo calls it The Senate’s coming impeachment fiasco. At Da Fed, Chris Bedford details McConnell’s Impeachment Blunder. At the Dispatch, Haley Byrd Wilt and Andrew Egger explain How Impeachment Could Hinder Biden’s Agenda. Gee, that would be too bad, wouldn't it? Zack Halachack reports  Lisa Murkowski claims House was right to impeach Trump for 'unlawful actions'. You know, I wouldn't be too surprised to see Murkowski and Manchin switch sides. And it's a topsy-turvy world when Rose McGowan is a voice of reason, from Fox, Rose McGowan calls Trump's second impeachment 'cult propaganda,' 'a theater of mass distraction'. Well, sort of, in a twisted way.

Rose McGowan has ripped the House of Representatives' vote to continue the process of removing President Trump from office.

The Hollywood actress-turned-activist took to Twitter late Thursday to share her opposition to Wednesday's House vote of 232-197 to impeach the president for "incitement of insurrection" after a mob of his supporters besieged the Capitol on Jan. 6 in a failed attempt to stop the certification of President-elect Joe Biden's Electoral College win.

In a scathing tweet, McGowan called the actions against Trump cultlike which is something she's said numerous times in the past about Hollywood.

"This impeachment is Cult propaganda. A theater of mass distraction. US cult members on the left will cheer, those on the right will be in a fury," McGowan wrote.

Read the whole thing for some great tweets.

Evidence uncovered so far, including weapons and tactics seen on surveillance video, suggests a level of planning that has led investigators to believe the attack on the US Capitol was not just a protest that spiraled out of control, a federal law enforcement official says.

Among the evidence the FBI is examining are indications that some participants at the Trump rally at the Ellipse, outside the White House, left the event early, perhaps to retrieve items to be used in the assault on the Capitol.

A team of investigators and prosecutors are also focused on the command and control aspect of the attack, looking at travel and communications records to determine if they can build a case that is similar to a counterterrorism investigation, the official said.

The link I’m posting below, if true and accurate, explains why we’re not seeing any official statements or MSM coverage of who shot Ashli Babbitt. It’s because no matter what explanations they try to offer, if a police officer says he wants to shoot or kill a Trump supporter and does so, doesn’t matter if he says “I feared for my life.” That statement has to be proved, and the video is proof positive that a reasonable man wouldn’t think so. His Facebook statements make the death of Ashli Babbitt premeditated murder. On Federal grounds prosecuted by federal attorneys in federal court. Complete with death sentence possibility

That brings up another personal bugaboo of mine that many others share. Immigrants, even after naturalization, should not be law enforcement officers. Period.

The linked article identifies the shooter by a particular beaded bracelet on his wrist. Same design beaded bracelet on previous photos of that officer. Seems kinda legit, unless these beaded bracelets are common, or photos are doctored. Link also claims this officer has Facebook posts expressing violent intent toward Trump supporters, but provides no link.

A search of the officers name brings up 'FactCheck' which attacks the source of the info-a definite right winger- as proof that the identity is false.

Apparently this info has been out for several days with no denial by the officer, or any official source.

The video of the killing and the earlier photos do ,indeed, show the same bracelet.

John Hinderacker at Power Line asks Did the Democrats Steal the Presidential Election?

Democrats are making extraordinary efforts to suppress all discussion of whether Joe Biden actually won the 2020 presidential election. In fact, they go even farther: they want to suppress all discussion of the extent to which voter fraud occurred. That naturally makes me want to write about voter fraud, and who really won the election.

First, this question: why are the Democrats so hysterical in their insistence that fraud not be mentioned? One reason is obvious. Joe Biden will take office under a cloud, since close to half of all Americans doubt that he really won the election. The Democrats want to stamp out such doubts to preserve Biden’s authority as president.

But there is a second reason that may be more important. The Democrats want the lax voting procedures that prevailed in 2020 to continue in the future. They know that efforts will be made in many states to improve ballot integrity, and they want those efforts to fail. By rendering all discussion of voter fraud out of bounds, they hope to forestall reforms that would make it harder for them to cheat, or enable cheating, in the future.

So, did the Democrats steal the presidential election, or not? I don’t know the answer to that question. No one does. A number of statistical analyses have been done, which on their face suggest large irregularities. I wrote about one such analysis, by John Lott, here. . . .

Oh My!

Jeffrey Toobin
Stacy McCain,  CNN Chief Legal Analyst Masturbates During Video Chat With Colleagues

Harvard Law alumnus Jeffrey Toobin:
The New Yorker has suspended reporter Jeffrey Toobin for masturbating on a Zoom video chat between members of the New Yorker and WNYC radio last week. Toobin says he did not realize his video was on.
“I made an embarrassingly stupid mistake, believing I was off-camera. I apologize to my wife, family, friends and co-workers,” Toobin told Motherboard.
“I believed I was not visible on Zoom. I thought no one on the Zoom call could see me. I thought I had muted the Zoom video,” he added. . . .
[Two witnesses who were in the Zoom session] both said that they saw Toobin jerking off. The two sources described a juncture in the election simulation when there was a strategy session, and the Democrats and Republicans went into their respective break out rooms for about 10 minutes. At this point, they said, it seemed like Toobin was on a second video call. The sources said that when the groups returned from their break out rooms, Toobin lowered the camera. The people on the call said they could see Toobin touching his penis. Toobin then left the call. Moments later, he called back in, seemingly unaware of what his colleagues had been able to see, and the simulation continued.
Notice that Toobin does not apologize for masturbating during what was supposed to be a work session; rather, he apologizes that he accidentally forgot that his video camera was still connected. Everybody knows that Toobin is a disgusting pervert. He impregnated his “friend” Jeff Greenfield’s daughter, tried to force her into an abortion, and then denied paternity until a court-ordered DNA test proved it. Now get this:
A spokesperson for CNN said “Jeff Toobin has asked for some time off while he deals with a personal issue, which we have granted.”
Oh, he “asked for some time off.” Seems like he’s had too much time on his hands lately. And that ain’t all he’s got on his hands . . .

Our elite. Well, this could become a new verb, like "Lewinsky"; "I Toobined my way through that Zoom meeting"

Oregon, My Oregon - Pays for Rioters Housing

Portland is wittingly or unwittingly housing some of the very same destructive rioters who have been tearing apart the city since May 28.

Let me repeat. The taxpayers are paying for their own demise and it’s all under the auspices of the city.

One month before the riots started, ostensibly to allow grieving over the death of George Floyd – remember him? – the City of Portland opened three homeless tent cities, one of which is the “Harbor of Hope.”

The camp is situated close to the Willamette River, just a simple, short walk over the Hawthorn Bridge to downtown Portland, where it spills out onto riot central.

A YouTuber, who goes by the name “Never Alone With Christ,” discovered that some of the same people agitating, rioting, and causing damage downtown live just across the river in the city-sponsored camp with city-provided amenities:

And for all that it's squalid, it ain't cheap:
The city provides tents, sleeping bags, and privacy fencing around the 20-plus-unit tent city, which sits on open parking lots.

The cost for housing antifa and others is staggering. OPB reports that the start-up costs were nearly a million dollars with an ongoing $250,000 per month to support Harbor of Hope and another shelter.
I'll let you do the math. And you're supposed to be upset that President Trump is threatening to withhold federal dollars from cities that don't deal with rioters?
Meanwhile Oregon has effectively gutted the right to self defense against rioters: Exclusive: Case of Portland Man Who Defended Himself Against Antifa Mob Heads to Supreme Court (Hat tip to Ted).
I reported in PJ Media in April of this year about Strickland losing his case at the Oregon Appeals Court.

Strickland was [recording] the event as he usually did with all of his equipment – including his properly concealed pistol, a Glock, for which he had a concealed carry license.

A mob of Antifa members surrounded him, roughed him up, and then told him, “You need to get the f**k out of here!” Even though Strickland backed away from the thugs in the larger protest, he continued to shoot video. As he was leaving, the mob of masked antifa thugs ran toward Strickland and tried to surround him. This time he pulled his pistol to back them off. No shots were ever fired; Strickland’s finger never came close to the trigger. His gambit worked, however. They backed off and Strickland got away from the mob, eventually being arrested by the cops. He was released with a citation.

Charges against him grew from two misdemeanors to 21 counts, ten of which were felonies, within hours of Portland politicos getting an earful from one of Strickland’s favorite targets, an anti-Second Amendment group called “Ceasefire Oregon.” The politicos also seemed to take on faith the word of one of the conspirators who insisted Strickland must be a racist, even though he knew better.

The treatment of Strickland was Kafka-esque. The Portland star chamber.
. . .
His attorneys thought it was a self-defense case, but it was really a First Amendment case with Second Amendment components. The team forsook a jury trial when it was discovered that most of the people questioned in voir dire were anti-gun. There was even a person in the jury pool who belonged to the same group holding the protest where Strickland was assaulted. Welcome to Portland justice. The team went with a bench trial, which meant that a Portland trial judge would decide Strickland’s guilt or innocence.

His Portland attorneys, as well as the rest of the Portland legal establishment, were stunned when Strickland was found guilty on all counts. It was an easy self-defense case. There was video of it. But he now faced more than 50 years in prison.

In the social intersectional pecking order we’re all supposed to measure life by now, Strickland, a white male, didn’t make into the Left’s politically correct Venn diagram. He was on the outs.

It’s easy to see now in light of the months of rioting, with so much attention focused on Portland, that somebody should have done something about the riotous mob by now. The sad story you see on the nightly news features a police force that isn’t allowed to enforce the law, flaccid leadership at city hall, self-righteous elected leaders, and a district attorney who tells the cops that even if they arrest these rioters, he’ll just let them out.

Strickland got the worst of it all. He got no benefit of the doubt. People in high places lied about him in the media. The judge threw the book at him. He was forced to surrender his gun. He would not be allowed to practice his First Amendment right to cover the news for four years. That meant he had no job. Strickland spent 40 days in jail. The mob cheered.

In April, he lost his appeal in the Oregon Appeals Court. This week the Oregon State Supreme Court denied reconsideration of his case. It now heads to the U.S. Supreme Court where there’s absolutely no guarantee it will be considered.

You Can't Fix Stupid

But you can toss it jail for a while while it waits to smarten up on its own. Stacy McCain, Play Stupid Games, Win Stupid Prizes
All those “dumb blonde” jokes? They’re not jokes:
A 22-year-old Michigan woman faces up to 15 years behind bars for allegedly inciting riots by destroying property and encouraging other looters to ransack stores during her Facebook Live broadcast.
Alexandria “Ally” Lyons of Grand Rapids was arrested after reportedly damaging businesses last weekend in Grand Rapids. She allegedly goaded fellow rioters to wreck retail locations by looting and throwing bricks at buildings. Lyons livestreamed video on Facebook of her kicking and shattering the glass window of a store. The riots left more than 100 businesses damaged, according to MLive.com.
Lyons and her friends went on a stealing spree where they stole beers from Mojo’s Dueling Piano Bar and Restaurant, looted a jewelry store, and stole merchandise from a clothing store, authorities said. Lyons and her friends uploaded photos and videos of their actions to social media.

“Defendant could be heard telling her friends to get her a gold bracelet because she already has silver ones,” Grand Rapids police Detective Matt DeJong wrote in a probable-cause affidavit of Lyons instructing others during a robbery of a jewelry store.
“She is heard multiple times encouraging her friends and others to throw bricks or other objects at windows of multiple businesses downtown and at one point picks up a brick herself and mentions heading ‘back to the courthouse,'” the affidavit said.
In one video, Lyons allegedly instructed her friends to break into an ATM.
Lyons shared footage of her having a party at her house, where she was reportedly seen wearing stolen clothing from F. David Barney Clothiers.
Not bad, as booking photos go

Police tracked Lyons down after receiving numerous tips and people sharing social media posts of her looting and destroying businesses.
Lyons was charged with the malicious destruction of a building (between $1,000 and $20,000) in one case and inciting a riot in a companion case, according to Law & Crime.
Because I’m not a racist, I want this white criminal to be punished to the maximum extent of the law. In fact, I consider it unfortunate that she did not get shot, or at least beaten, while resisting arrest. Stupid white people like her are giving the rest of us white people a bad reputation. And some of them might even vote for Joe Biden in November.
Is she one of the bugalloo girlz? I doubt it.

The Politics of Death

Stacy McCain: Death Is a Democrat: Florida Fearmonger Stalks Beaches as ‘Grim Reaper’
It is difficult to describe, and impossible to exaggerate, just how evil and dishonest the Democrats have become. Daniel Uhlfelder is a Florida lawyer who previously made headlines by suing over a private beach in Walton County where former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee happens to live. Huckabee is just one of 900 beachfront property owners in the county, but his name was invoked as a publicity stunt by Uhlfelder first during the 2018 campaign, and then in launching a super PAC earlier this year. Now, Uhlfelder wants people to believe they’re going to die because of Gov. Ron DeSantis’s decision to re-open Florida’s beaches:

Most Floridians hitting the newly reopened beaches are trading stay-at-home sweatpants for shorts and swimsuits.
But when he heads out, Daniel Uhlfelder dons a raggedy black robe, conceals his face with a black cloth and wields his scythe.
Uhlfelder, an attorney, is haunting Florida beaches dressed as the Grim Reaper to protest their reopening, which he believes is premature.
It’s a macabre plea to beachgoers to stay home.
Uhlfelder is a staunch advocate for public beach access in the state, even butting heads with former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, whose Florida Panhandle home is parked on a private beach. But allowing anyone on the beach during the pandemic is a mistake, he said — one that could endanger the community.
“We aren’t at the point now where we have enough testing, enough data, enough preparation for what’s going to be coming to our state from all over the world from this pandemic,” the lawyer told CNN.
Scythe in hand, he traveled to beaches around Walton County, Florida, that have reopened ahead of the state’s planned May 4 reopening. “Phase One” of the reopening will allow restaurants and retailers to open at 25% capacity. Bars, salons and gyms will stay closed for now.
The beaches he visited Friday were “very crowded,” he said.
“I know how beautiful and attractive our beaches are. But if we don’t take measures to control things, this virus is going to get really, really out of control,” he warned.

Except (a) no, he’s wrong, and (b) the media reports won’t mention the highly relevant fact that Uhlfelder is a Democrat activist, and that this isn’t about public health, it’s about partisan politics — falsely smearing the Republican governor. Actual research indicates that there is little or no danger of the virus spreading outdoors in the sunshine. That’s just not how viruses operate. True, some college kids who traveled to Florida for Spring Break in February and early March contracted coronavirus, but that was probably from partying in crowded nightclubs, or perhaps just from being on commercial airlines. Being outdoors in the sunshine is probably the safest place to be, and if Uhlfelder says the beaches were “very crowded,” could he please specify what that means, in terms of people per square foot? Because I doubt very much that any beach was too crowded to observe the six-foot “social distancing” limit.

Facts don’t matter to the liberal media narrative.
Clearly, Uhfelder is not worried about contracting WuFlu at the beach. So he's guilty of that which he's preaching against.

Meanwhile, the New York based media goes mad that Florida opens it's beaches, while Central Park is open and the New York subway system is still active.

Forget It Jake, It's Baltimore

Jazz Shaw at Hot Air, again, Baltimore Announces That Black People Can Actually Catch COVID-19
How does this keep happening?

As you may recall, CNN host Van Jones recently felt compelled to pen an op-ed informing his fellow African-American citizens that they are not immune to the novel coronavirus. He was moved to do so after one of his well-educated relatives assured him there was nothing to worry about because Black people “have antibodies” to prevent them from contracting COVID-19.

Apparently a lot of people in Baltimore, Maryland don’t read CNN’s website on a regular basis. The same false rumor has been running around Charm City, leading to crowds of Black residents ignoring social distancing orders. This situation forced the city’s Health Commissioner to come out and make a public announcement, letting everyone know that this rumor is totally false and people are dying because of it. (CBS Baltimore)
Health commissioner Dr. Letita Dzirasa said Tuesday the city plans to increase its messaging and outreach efforts to make sure people understand that no one is immune from COVID-19.
“Unfortunately, there is a persistent rumor that African Americans are immune to coronavirus. This is false, and the data shows this is a very dangerous belief,” she said.
Initial racial demographic data of coronavirus cases in the city and across the state also shows African Americans have a higher rate of fatality than whites, she said.
Thus far, Baltimore hasn’t been hit as hard as other large cities like New York. They’ve recorded 1,060 confirmed cases and 25 deaths as of yesterday. But somewhat ironically, at least in terms of this persistent, false rumor, Black residents are both contracting the disease and dying from it at higher rates than white residents.
And by imagining they are immune, and therefore shouldn't be subject to the same strictures the rest of us are facing will only make it worse.
I’ve seen quite a few reports of this rumor making the rounds and the origins of it are starting to become clear. It’s not dissimilar to the early rumors we heard about COVID-19 only affecting Asian people, so everyone else didn’t have to be all that concerned. (Of course it originally affected primarily Asians. The virus came from China!)

KKT Daughter, Grandson Presumed Drowned in Canoe Accident

Kathleen Kennedy Townsend's daughter, grandson presumed dead after canoeing accident
The grandson and adult daughter of former Maryland Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend are presumed dead after the pair's canoe apparently capsized in the Chesapeake Bay, Townsend said Friday.

In a statement issued Friday night, Townsend said the search for her daughter, 40-year-old Maeve Kennedy Townsend McKean, and 8-year-old grandson, Gideon, was now a recovery effort.

“With profound sadness, I share the news that the search for my beloved daughter Maeve and grandson Gideon has turned from rescue to recovery," Townsend said in the statement.
. . .
The pair went missing late Thursday afternoon in waters near the pair's Shady Side, Maryland home, about 25 miles south of Annapolis, officials said.
. . .
A Maryland Department of Natural Resources statement said a preliminary investigation "revealed that the pair may have been paddling the canoe from a residence in Shady Side, MD out into the bay to retrieve a ball and were unable to paddle back to shore."

An overturned canoe, approximately matching the description the pair were in, was later found, the department said.

Kennedy Townsend comes from one of the most famous political clans in U.S. history. She’s the oldest daughter of Robert F. Kennedy and niece of former President John F. Kennedy and Edward M. Kennedy.
It's been windy and rough the last two days. There's no excuse for going out on the Bay in a canoe in these conditions. And the water is cold; too cold for any hope of survival for any length of time eve with a life jacket.
