You may not be giving a second thought to setting your washing machine on the hot cycle, cranking your showers to a steamy temperature or scrubbing your dirty dishes under a stream of scalding water.

 

If you did, you’d find that you probably don’t need to use so much hot water —
and that you could be saving energy and cutting your utility bills. Water heating is responsible for more than 10 percent of both annual residential energy use and consumer utility costs, the biggest share after air conditioning and heating, according to the Energy Department. An American household uses an average of 64 gallons of hot water a day — close to the amount needed to fill an average bathtub— by doing laundry, showering, washing the dishes and running kitchen and bathroom faucets.

While there are home improvements that can help you cut back on the energy it takes to heat water, including installing a heat pump water heater, one easy solution is to switch to cold water.

“If you’re wasting cold water to get your hot water, then you’re really wasting both water and the energy resources,” she said. “Those energy resources still come largely from fossil fuels, and so they’re adding to emissions in the environment at a time when we really need to be doing everything we can to reduce carbon emissions.”

“The emissions are negligible compared to the impact of decisions and commitments made at these summits,” he said.

“If you want emissions to come down, you want leaders in the room and media, scientists and stakeholders asking the important questions.”

EPA Hoist on Own Petard

WUWT, EPA Penalized for Polluting

Under the category you can’t make this stuff up, the September 3, 2021 Federal Register included a notice of a proposed settlement agreement, enforcement action alleging air pollution violations for the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Edison New Jersey facility. The federal agency responsible for compliance with environmental regulations did not comply with New Jersey boiler and emergency generator regulations.

According to the Federal Register notice:

“In November 2019, New Jersey conducted an inspection of EPA’s Edison facility and found several state law violations regarding EPA’s boilers and emergency generators. Based on

this inspection, and further information provided by EPA, New Jersey alleged the following types of violations:

• Failure to seek new general permits when the boilers and emergency generators were replaced;
• Operating the boilers and emergency generators with expired general permits;
• Operating one emergency generator on five bad air days;
• Operating one boiler on one bad air day; and
• Improper tune-ups and/or tune-up report submission for two boilers.”

EPA delegates the responsibility to inspect facilities to the states upon approval of implementation plans. On a regular basis inspectors show up at the facility and go through the permits and records to make sure everything is being done correctly. It appears that during the inspection when the boiler and emergency generator specifications were compared to the existing permits there was a discrepancy. I can only imagine the consternation of the folks at EPA when it became obvious that someone had overlooked the rules. This ended causing two violations: one for not getting a new permit and one for operating under an expired permit. Those are paperwork violations that cause no harm to the environment.

However, the inspection also found that EPA was not operating the units correctly and that does harm the environment. In non-attainment areas, facilities are required to not operate emergency generators unless absolutely necessary on “bad air days”. I am not sure exactly how “bad air days” are defined but I believe they are days when either the observed or projected air quality is close or exceeds a national ambient air quality standard. In this instance it almost certainly represents nitrogen oxides emissions and the ozone ambient air quality standard. Therefore, EPA could have contributed to a violation of the ozone standard.

Any fine should be taken out of the director of that facility's pocket. But I doubt a fine will be imposed; probably just a paperwork acknowledgment of the screwup and a promise to do better in the future.

For someone who prides himself on optics, Barack Obama just gave us quite an ugly spectacle.

As the rest of America struggles with uncertain employment status and school reopenings, shifting mask mandates, anxiety over vaccinations and variants, the health of the economy and the citizenry at large, Obama had to go and throw himself a huge, epic, three-day birthday bash on Martha’s Vineyard.

You would think a former president — one who clearly considers himself more intelligent and sensitive than most — would exercise some restraint.

Or at least understand that this was a supremely bad look.

Here were a host of left-leaning eco-warrior celebs, all Obama’s “close friends,” of course, descending on an already understaffed and emotionally depleted Vineyard.

“His birthday party is insane,” one of Obama’s caterers told The Post last week. “What is he thinking?”

Clearly, Obama thought to do whatever he damn well pleased — even after such backlash caused him to effectively cancel his party.

Now, in a seeming affront to their own sacrosanct environmental standards, Lopez and Affleck’s luxe European yacht trip has nevertheless taken them from Capri to Nerano, with a stop in St. Tropez, according to a report by Elle. The pair have been frolicking on the massive yacht for Lopez’s birthday getaway, which kicked off on Saturday in St Tropez, France, reports Us Weekly.

Ecowatch noted that “a superyacht with a permanent crew, helicopter pad, submarines and pools emits about 7,020 tons of CO2 a year.”

Looks like Gina Carano has gotten kicked to the Tinseltown curb, and not just by Disney, after provocative social-media postings. The former MMA star got fired from her role on The Mandalorian, lost her representation, and even her publicists have dumped her. The final straw appears to be an Instagram message that hyperbolically compares the treatment of Republicans in today’s America to the treatment of Jews in Nazi Germany:

 

“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future,” a Lucasfilm spokesperson said in a statement. “Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

Carano shared several offensive posts on her Instagram stories Tuesday night, including one that likened contemporary political differences to the treatment of Jews in Nazi Germany.

 

“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children,” Carano wrote Instagram. “Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views.” The post originated on a different Instagram account.

Let’s just stipulate an important point for the kids reading this post. When you feel the need to make an analogy about life in the United States and find yourself reaching for Nazi Germany … stop. Nothing about life in the United States compares to what happened to Jews under Hitler. Godwin’s Law is not supposed to be a rhetorical goal, but an all-too-accurate prediction about the eventual stupidity into which political debates devolve.

I agree, it's entirely unfair to compare leftists to Nazi's; they haven't killed 6 million Jews, yet. But leftist never compare their opponents to Nazi's do they, and if they do they suffer the consequences immediately, right?  Oh wait,

Washington Post Op-Ed Writer Who Claims Buccaneers' Name Is Problematic Has An Interesting Tatto

In a very interesting plot twist, it turns out the Washington Post op-ed writer who blasted the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and called the use of the Buccaneers’ name “problematic” because it is “romanticizing ruthless cutthroats” has an interesting tattoo and selective outrage.

“While this celebration of piracy seems like innocent fun and pride in a local culture, there is danger in romanticizing ruthless cutthroats who created a crisis in world trade when they captured and plundered thousands of ships on Atlantic trade routes,” Jamie L.H. Goodall wrote in the Post op-ed. 

Goodall, who received a PhD in history in Pirates in the Atlantic/Chesapeake/Caribbean from Ohio State University, says she can be found at the Maryland Renaissance Festival “dressed as my alter ego: Torienne, Ship’s Scholar of the crew Mare Nostrum,” according to her website.

“I drink and I know things,” she adds.

 Maybe she should change her flavor of Kool-Aid. 

It’s like Jamie didn’t think people would go looking into her past to see what her story is. There is no need to get into some philosophical battle with PhD nerds over this story. Let’s pretend we’re having garage beers here. Jamie clearly thinks it’s horrible that Tampa Bay uses Buccaneers as a nickname because her politics tell her it’s supposed to be bad, and when you’re woke there are no days off. You have to be fully outraged at all times, even if you have this as a shoulder tattoo.

Now Jamie will fade off into Internet history, and she’ll go back to romanticizing pirates. Her work here is done. Football teams aren’t allowed to romanticize pirates, but Jamie is.

I see now that whenever a President of the US, and a House of Representatives are controlled by different parties, it is the obligation of the House opposition to attempt to impeach the President. Can we turn the House in 2022? Is it too early to talk about impeaching President Biden for his corrupt actions with Ukraine and China? Not if history is any guide.

As a symbolic gesture, what does this symbolize? The absolute contempt that Democrats have for the 74 million Americans who voted for Trump.

Having discovered that, with the help of mail-in vote fraud and Big Tech censorship, they can steal any election anywhere, Democrats have no fear that the “deplorables” could ever regain power. Thus the totalitarian regime, able to cruse its enemies with impunity, simply does not care about the potential of a backlash — dissent is now treason, and resistance is illegal. No matter how “unlikely” Trump could be removed from office between now and next Wednesday (it’s so unlikely as to be almost impossible, but we cannot rule anything out, in this climate of hysteria), this vote with 10 “Republicans” voting yes, is important for its symbolic value. Glenn Reynolds observes: “They were talking about impeaching him before he was even sworn in, which tells you a lot about the seriousness of this stuff.” Democrats never accepted the results of the 2016 election as legitimate, yet anyone who today questions the outcome of the 2020 election is condemned as an Enemy of Democracy.

Note that during this "trial" Trump will not be President. One would think the even CJ Roberts would boot that right away (although he might approve a trial for the purposes of "disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States."

After citing DC law on incitement and provocation, which was based on a 1969 Supreme Court case, Shapiro pointed out that Trump’s speech fell short of the requirements under DC law:

The president didn’t mention violence on Wednesday, much less provoke or incite it. He said, “I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.”

District law defines a riot as “a public disturbance . . . which by tumultuous and violent conduct or the threat thereof creates grave danger of damage or injury to property or persons.” When Mr. Trump spoke, there was no “public disturbance,” only a rally. The “disturbance” came later at the Capitol by a small minority who entered the perimeter and broke the law. They should be prosecuted.

George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley has made similar arguments, as my colleague Nick Arama previously reported.

Another elephant in the room that the Democrats and the media are reluctant to mention is the timeline issue. According to CBS News investigative reporter Catherine Herridge, the first pipe bomb was said to have been found at the RNC around 12:45 as Trump was still giving his speech . . .

 Insty, WERE THOSE PIPEBOMBS MEANT AS DIVERSIONS?

Catherine Herridge, formerly of Fox News and more recently with CBS News, reports investigators think those pipebombs found at the RNC and DNC on January 6 may have been intended to divert law enforcement away from the Capitol itself at a crucial moment. That would also suggest somebody with a command and control structure for the planned riot.

Herridge also notes that the crucial window for understanding the timeline of January 6 events is between 12:45 and 1:15, before President Donald Trump finished his speech to the gathered protestors. If that is true, and there are abundant reasons to think it is, then it’s difficult to ascribe to Trump responsibility for inciting the riot.

In free societies, if the police want to enter your premises, they have to obtain a warrant. In the New Normal of the new New Jersey, Phil Murphy's Health Commissars broke into Ian Smith's Atilis gym and changed the locks - and all without a warrant. When the Catholic churches then briefly re-opened, the Coronagruppenführers of the New Jersey State Police had them closed down.

In a corner of Illinois, things are different. James Mainer of HCL Deluxe Tan in Clay City sued Governor Pritzker's lockdown regime - and won. Giving his decision from the bench, Clay County judge Michael McHaney gave a pithy summation of the new Law of Experts as one could wish. It deserves to be savored:

Before I rule, I'm advising everybody in this room, no public outbursts or displays. The court is still in session until you are told otherwise.
Since the inception of this insanity, the following regulations, rules or consequences have occurred: I won't get COVID if I get an abortion but I will get COVID if I get a colonoscopy. Selling pot is essential but selling goods and services at a family-owned business is not. Pot wasn't even legal and pot dispensaries didn't even exist in this state until five months ago and, in that five months, they have become essential but a family-owned business in existence for five generations is not.
A family of six can pile in their car and drive to Carlyle Lake without contracting COVID but, if they all get in the same boat, they will. We are told that kids rarely contract the virus and sunlight kills it, but summer youth programs, sports programs are cancelled. Four people can drive to the golf course and not get COVID but, if they play in a foursome, they will. If I go to Walmart, I won't get COVID but, if I go to church, I will. Murderers are released from custody while small business owners are threatened with arrest if they have the audacity to attempt to feed their families.
These are just a few of examples of rules, regulations and consequences that are arbitrary, capricious, and completely devoid of anything even remotely approaching common sense.

And things that are arbitrary and capricious cannot be laws - because, as I often say, it is tyranny that is always capricious. Judge McHaney continues:

Doctors and experts say different things weekly. The defendant cites models in his opposition. The only thing experts will agree on is that all models are wrong and some are useful. The Centers for Disease Control now says the virus is not easily spread on surfaces.

And then His Honor addresses one of the most repulsive aspects of the regime under which much of the "free world" has lived since March: those who make these new laws are not bound by them. For Governor Pritzker's family, as for Governor Whitmer's and Justin Trudeau's, the rules are different:

The defendant in this case orders you to stay home and pronounces that, if you leave the state, you are putting people in danger, but his family members traveled to Florida and Wisconsin because he deems such travel essential. One initial rationale why the rules don't apply to him is that his family farm had animals that needed fed. Try selling that argument to farmers who have had to slaughter their herds because of disruption in the supply chain.
When laws do not apply to those who make them, people are not being governed, they are being ruled. Make no mistake, these executive orders are not laws. They are royal decrees. Illinois citizens are not being governed, they are being ruled. The last time I checked Illinois citizens are also Americans and Americans don't get ruled. The last time a monarch tried to rule Americans, a shot was fired that was heard around the world. That day led to the birth of a nation consensually governed based upon a document which ensures that on this day in this, any American courtroom tyrannical despotism will always lose and liberty, freedom and the constitution will always win.

We shall await other rulings before we share quite the confidence of Judge McHaney's last sentence.

Not to mention the incredible hypocrisy of the media and Democrat politicians encouraging mass BLM protests and even riots while  having hissy fits at the idea of a public Trump rally.

It is difficult to describe, and impossible to exaggerate, just how evil and dishonest the Democrats have become. Daniel Uhlfelder is a Florida lawyer who previously made headlines by suing over a private beach in Walton County where former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee happens to live. Huckabee is just one of 900 beachfront property owners in the county, but his name was invoked as a publicity stunt by Uhlfelder first during the 2018 campaign, and then in launching a super PAC earlier this year. Now, Uhlfelder wants people to believe they’re going to die because of Gov. Ron DeSantis’s decision to re-open Florida’s beaches:

Most Floridians hitting the newly reopened beaches are trading stay-at-home sweatpants for shorts and swimsuits.
But when he heads out, Daniel Uhlfelder dons a raggedy black robe, conceals his face with a black cloth and wields his scythe.
Uhlfelder, an attorney, is haunting Florida beaches dressed as the Grim Reaper to protest their reopening, which he believes is premature.
It’s a macabre plea to beachgoers to stay home.
Uhlfelder is a staunch advocate for public beach access in the state, even butting heads with former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, whose Florida Panhandle home is parked on a private beach. But allowing anyone on the beach during the pandemic is a mistake, he said — one that could endanger the community.
“We aren’t at the point now where we have enough testing, enough data, enough preparation for what’s going to be coming to our state from all over the world from this pandemic,” the lawyer told CNN.
Scythe in hand, he traveled to beaches around Walton County, Florida, that have reopened ahead of the state’s planned May 4 reopening. “Phase One” of the reopening will allow restaurants and retailers to open at 25% capacity. Bars, salons and gyms will stay closed for now.
The beaches he visited Friday were “very crowded,” he said.
“I know how beautiful and attractive our beaches are. But if we don’t take measures to control things, this virus is going to get really, really out of control,” he warned.

Except (a) no, he’s wrong, and (b) the media reports won’t mention the highly relevant fact that Uhlfelder is a Democrat activist, and that this isn’t about public health, it’s about partisan politics — falsely smearing the Republican governor. Actual research indicates that there is little or no danger of the virus spreading outdoors in the sunshine. That’s just not how viruses operate. True, some college kids who traveled to Florida for Spring Break in February and early March contracted coronavirus, but that was probably from partying in crowded nightclubs, or perhaps just from being on commercial airlines. Being outdoors in the sunshine is probably the safest place to be, and if Uhlfelder says the beaches were “very crowded,” could he please specify what that means, in terms of people per square foot? Because I doubt very much that any beach was too crowded to observe the six-foot “social distancing” limit.

Facts don’t matter to the liberal media narrative.

Clearly, Uhfelder is not worried about contracting WuFlu at the beach. So he's guilty of that which he's preaching against.

Meanwhile, the New York based media goes mad that Florida opens it's beaches, while Central Park is open and the New York subway system is still active.

Bernie Sanders is on the go all the time -- which seems to have given him a momentary case of a campaign brain fart as he accidentally boarded the wrong jet.

The Democratic front-runner was spotted Saturday making his way off of a private Gulfstream between campaign stops in South Carolina and Massachusetts -- the latter being where he held a rally at Boston Common ahead of Super Tuesday.

Fact is ... the S.C. primary looks like it's gonna go to Joe Biden, as he's well ahead of everyone else in the latest polls. Looks like Bernie's cutting his losses and moving on.

As for this little mix-up here, it's kinda funny. Bernie's been flying all over the country for different campaign events -- so the guy's definitely busy and has a preoccupied mind at the moment. Mistakes like this (getting on the wrong Gulfstream) are bound to happen.

Sanders, of course, is a firm supporter of the Green Nude Eel, the plan to bring the entire energy economy, and all means of production under control of the Federal Government, using concern for the climate as the excuse. WaPoo, Now Sanders wants a Green New Deal for the entire world. But I guess it's different when you need to get elected first.

It’s the hiding that really sells this, because otherwise it’s at least potentially defensible. Presidential candidates get ripped for not doing enough retail politics, especially in early states like Iowa and New Hampshire, where commercial flights aren’t all that abundant. Warren could simply have offered an explanation that on rare occasions in this particular context, a charter flight is necessary — but that it should be a choice of last resort. It would still be fairly hypocritical as environmental advocates rarely if ever concede anything about practicality when demanding that everyone else live according to their diktats, but at least it would address the obvious contradiction here.

Instead, Warren tries to use one of her aides as a human shield against the camera. Way to champion transparency and accountability, Senator!

Why, just the other day I was searching for a picture of Fauxcahontas with a private jet. Now I know why.

Speaking of which, Warren’s hardly the only hypocrite in the Greta Thunberg Army. The Washington Free Beacon did an analysis of private-jet use by Democratic candidates, and guess who comes in first place? Feel the after-Berner, baby:

The Bernie Sanders campaign spent just under $1.2 million on private jet travel last quarter, outpacing the entire 2020 Democratic presidential primary field.
The most recent filing from Sanders reveals $1,199,579 in spending during the final three months of 2019 to Apollo Jets, LLC, a “luxury private jet charter service.” The campaign spent an additional $23,941 for transportation to Virginia-based Advanced Aviation Team.

I'm shocked, shocked!

Sanders and Warren aren’t alone on this score, either:

The candidate who comes closest to matching Sanders in private jet spending was former vice president Joe Biden, whose campaign spent $1,040,698 to Advanced Aviation Team last quarter.
An analysis of private jet spending in filings from other top candidates found that Elizabeth Warren’s campaign spent $720,518 and Pete Buttigieg’s campaign spent $323,518. Michael Bloomberg, who pumped a whopping $200 million of his personal fortune into his campaign’s opening weeks, spent about $646,000 on private jet travel, about half of what Sanders spent.

Those numbers don’t suggest “occasional logistical issues.” They suggest standard operational convenience, of the very same kind that Democrats demonize in their environmental lecturing. To paraphrase our colleague Instapundit, I’ll believe that climate change is an emergency when its hysterics start living like it is.

Now you can add your burger and steak to their list of what they want to legislate, regulate or confiscate out of your existence. YOUR existence. Not theirs.

The global warming agenda is the gift that keeps on giving for everyone who wants to control what you do. Dangerous manmade climate change justifies all manner of meddling, in the name of saving the planet. And like the mafia, UN cops want a piece of the action whenever money and power are on the line.

Anti-meat crusaders have been pushing hard in recent months to use climate change to achieve their goal of forcing you into an all plant-based diet. This year their rhetoric became a big part of the dialogue at UN 25th Conference of the Parties (COP-25) on climate change, in Madrid.

They’ve introduced a new buzzword you’ll be hearing a lot of, “peak meat” – as in “peak oil,” or something that we’re going to run out of really soon … not because we’re actually going to run out, but because government policies will make it off limits and drive it into oblivion.
