South Carolina Daily Gazette, Tattoo parlor sues SC over 22-year-old law requiring distance from churches. "Lawsuit also challenges state ban on tattooing anyone’s face, head or neck."

Whether tattoo artists have a constitutional right to ink near churches and schools is the central question of a federal lawsuit challenging a decades-old state law.

South Carolina became the second-to-last state in the nation to allow tattooing in 2004, following only Oklahoma. The law legalizing the practice set parameters, including that parlors needed to stay at least 1,000 feet away from any nearby churches, schools and playgrounds, and no artist could tattoo on the neck, face or head.

In a lawsuit filed July 17 in federal court, a tattoo shop and two people who want to get inked are arguing those rules violate the First Amendment right of self-expression. The state Department of Public Health and attorney general’s office, named as the defendants, have not yet filed responses.

“Whether artwork appears on canvas, paper, or skin, the Constitution protects both the artist’s right to create it and the customer’s right to receive it,” the lawsuit reads.

Well, duh! What if you want to get a head and neck tattoo after church!

Fox 32 Chicago, Two charged after severed arm with Packers tattoo found in Illinois lake, police say

A severed arm with a distinctive Green Bay Packers tattoo led investigators to identify a Plainfield man whose remains were recovered from Lake Mattoon, and two people have now been charged in the case, Illinois State Police said.

James Adams, 26, and Robin Turner, 62, are each charged with concealment of a homicidal death, a Class 3 felony, and dismembering a human body, a Class X felony.

I guess if you really want your body identified, you need something more original than an ordinary old Totenkopf.

At People, Hailey Bieber Shows Off New Rib Tattoo That's Seemingly in Honor of 21-Month-Old Son Jack Blues

Hailey Bieber has some new ink, and it seems to be in reference to her toddler son.

On Monday, June 1, the 29-year-old Rhode founder posted a few photos on her Instagram where she wore a dark string bikini and lay on the ground. Bieber's side was exposed, which showed a tiny "22" tattoo on her ribcage.

The 22 could be in reference to her birthday, November 22, and her 21-month-old son Jack Blues' birthday, August 22.

Go big or go home.

Medical XPress, An 'intelligent tattoo' to detect skin cancer before it appears

Called SMEAR-ULM, it's a high-tech system that can detect skin cancers at their earliest stages by measuring tiny temperature variations at the surface of the skin. Led by INRS professor Jinyang Liang, the research team has published their findings in Nature Sensors.

At the core of the system is a patch of painless microneedles that deposits specialized nanoparticles just beneath the skin. These nanoparticles form a temporary "intelligent tattoo" that behaves like an array of microscopic thermometers.

When illuminated with near-infrared light, the nanoparticles emit visible light. Crucially, the lifetime of this light emission—how long it lasts—depends directly on local temperature. Because cancer cells consume more oxygen and nutrients than healthy cells, they produce additional heat, which can be detected through this optical signal.

With this approach, the researchers successfully detected micro-melanomas as early as four days old—a stage at which they are typically far too small to be identified by conventional imaging techniques.

So, do get this over your whole body? My grandfather died on melanoma that started on his ear.

KTVU Fox 2, Mom charged after toddler found with tattoo in ‘deplorable’ home: police

Kentucky authorities arrested a woman accused of giving her 22-month-old child a tattoo. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Brook McDaniel, was taken into custody last Monday by Kentucky State Police (KSP), according to the Adair County Regional Jail.

During a home visit, investigators said they discovered the family living in "deplorable" conditions and found the toddler with a black dot tattoo on his arm, along with visible redness surrounding the area, local outlet LEX 18 reported, citing a uniform citation.

Witnesses told investigators that McDaniel allegedly tattooed the child while she was tattooing herself, the outlet added.

Jeez, at least she should have given him a Teddy Bear or something to remind him of her for the rest of his life. Or maybe a Totenkopf, the current rage in Democrat symbolism!

KPTV, Oregon tattoo artists push back on topical anesthetic ban

Tattoo artists across Oregon are voicing concerns after a recent rule clarification from the Oregon Health Authority says topical anesthetics cannot be used by any tattoo artist.

Sean Lanusse has been tattooing for nearly two decades, and sits on the committee that reviews curriculum for Oregon tattoo schools. During their last committee meeting, a memo was introduced with little warning. “They just kinda slid it out and said we are not going to talk about this because it does not pertain to this meeting but here is this information,” Lanusse said.

The practice clarification says under no circumstance can tattoo artists in Oregon apply topical anesthetics. The reasoning: it could constitute practicing medicine. Only one other state in the U.S. bans all topical anesthetics for tattoo purposes.

Lanusse said it’s common to see a numbing agent like Bactine in a tattoo studio. “I did use bactine for a while just to ease it up a little bit, help the client through the extra 20 mins or whatever but generally I’m not using those things,” Lanusse said. “I don’t think it’s as big of a problem for us as it is for cosmetic tattooing.”

At her private studio, Exuvium Studios Body Art & Beauty, Kaysie Anderson tattoos more than just permanent makeup. She does a lot of work with scar camouflaging and post-mastectomy areola reconstructing tattooing.“I have used numbing creams up until this clarification for nearly every single service I perform,” Anderson said. After the new rule came out, she sent a poll to her clients asking if they would be willing to get their tattoos without numbing cream. Since most of the tattoos Anderson applies are in very sensitive areas of the body, a vast majority of her clients said no. “This will 100% drive business out of our state, this will also drive licensees out of our state so the HLO will loose that revenue too,” Anderson said. “If I am not able to get clarification on how this is to be enforced or applied then I would have to relocate.”

Well then, I'm definitely not getting my next tattoo in Oregon.

KOMO News, Man allegedly ripped tattoo off woman's throat because she made his mac and cheese

"[The victim] advised Wolfe was upset and told her the macaroni and cheese she made belonged to him," the probable cause statement said. "[The victim] advised she tried explaining to Wolfe that she made the dinner for him and the other resident when Wolfe grabbed her."

"[The victim] advised Wolfe pinned her against the wall and grabbed her throat. Wolfe then pulled the skin on [her] throat where she had just received a tattoo approximately 5 days prior. Wolfe ripped the skin from [her] neck, leaving the large laceration."

Immediately after the attack, Wolfe allegedly sat down at the table "and began playing on his tablet."

Wolfe was arrested and charged with assault in the first degree causing serious physical injury, per the Rolla Police Department.

He must really like Mac and Cheese.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, she began performing music professionally at age 15.  Since her debut LP Monsters came out in 2018, Flores has released five albums, with the most recent one being 2025's Hollywood Forever. She is most known for her 2019 single "Problems", which amassed over 70 million streams on Spotify following its success on the video-hosting service TikTok.

Flores was born on December 19, 1999, in Los Angeles, California. She is of mixed heritage; her father's family is Mexican, and her mother is European. She wrote her first song at the age of 5.

Flores released her first song at the age of 15. Her first single on Spotify, "Tiempo", was self-released. She continued to release music independently for another year, in which time she also released her debut album Monsters, which included features from other singers such as Lil B and Yung Bans. Her stage name, DeathbyRomy, comes from her past struggles with suicidal tendencies and is an attempt at "claiming personal love".

Wrestle Purists, Rhea Ripley Says She Wanted A Pepsi Tattoo Like CM Punk When She Was Younger

Making an appearance on Nina Drama’s latest Kick stream, Rhea Ripley revealed that CM Punk was one of her favourite wrestlers when she was younger, so much so that she wanted her own Pepsi tattoo.

“I grew up watching wrestling. Punk was one of my favorites. I wanted to get a Pepsi tattoo on my finger… he’s got the big Pepsi tattoo because he’s straight edge, and I was like, ‘I love CM Punk! I want a Pepsi tattoo!’ I didn’t even drink Pepsi.”

Sami Sheen is asking her social media followers for advice as she explores the possibility of changing the look of her tattoos.

On Tuesday, Feb. 24, the 21-year-old content creator posted a TikTok calling for the help of "creative and artsy" viewers who may come across her video. Sami — whose parents are Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen — walked back a previous claim about wanting to get all of her tattoos removed.

"That was before I did a lot of research and realized it's not realistic for me to remove every single tattoo on my body, because that's gonna take two f---ing years, and it's gonna be painful, and I'm gonna have scars, and I'm not gonna be able to go in the sun," the OnlyFans model explained in her recent video. "It's just not gonna look good, and I don't wanna deal with that."

Australian Broadcasting Co, Dozens of Australians diagnosed with rare tattoo-related vision loss

While tattoo-associated uveitis was thought to be extremely rare, research published in the journal Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology has documented 40 new cases of the condition in Australia — doubling the number of published cases detected around the world since 2010. The research, undertaken by a team of Australians, suggests this complication, while still rare given the number of people who get tattoos, may be more common than we thought. Experts are calling for more research to understand and try to limit the vision-threatening disease.

But in recent years, Dr Richards has seen a rise in cases of uveitis caused by injected tattoo ink — sometimes long after the tattoo was done.  Doctors can tell the uveitis is caused by a tattoo because it can look slightly raised and inflamed. "I only became aware of it about four or five years ago, and then once I was aware of it, I had all these patients all of a sudden," she said.

TATTOOS are the love language of Brooklyn Beckham. With about 110 etchings sprawled across his body, inked-in words of affirmation are how he likes to express himself.

How utterly wounding, both literally and figuratively, it is then to learn the 26-year-old has intentionally covered up tributes to his father David. This, quite evidently, is a wound that runs deep. Having already tattooed over “Mama’s boy”, now it is the turn of his once-beloved dad to be erased from pigmented history. And my God, this will hurt family man Becks.

EOnline, Amanda Bynes Shows Off New "Trap Star" Tattoo After Debuting 28-Pound Weight Loss

Amanda Bynes revealed that she got new ink on her hand in a since-deleted post on her Instagram Stories Jan. 22, according to Us Weekly. The fresh ink read “Trap Star” in a bold, Gothic font and was positioned near the 39-year-old actress’ left thumb.

Snapping the pic inside her car, the She’s the Man star put her new ink on full display beside the two other tattoos on her left arm—a scripted “Beauty” tattoo on her forearm and heart on her middle finger—as well as her pink nails and silver and gold watch.

She also posted a pouty selfie from outside her car, revealing her completed look. In addition to her heart face tattoo and nose piercings, Amanda showed off her bright blue lipstick, thick black eyebrows and blonde hair.

The tattoo comes eight months after Amanda last went under the needle for new ink. In May, she unveiled a meaningful tattoo that she got with a longtime pal to commemorate their friendship.

Time has not been kind.

Copyright Lately, Will the Kat Von D Tattoo Case Kill “Total Concept and Feel”?

The Ninth Circuit rang in the new year with two opinions in Sedlik v. Von Drachenberg, the long-running photography-meets-tattoo copyright case involving Kat Von D and an iconic image of Miles Davis. In 2024, a Los Angeles jury found no infringement as to Von D’s tattoo and sketch, and fair use as to certain social-media “process posts,” giving Von D a clean victory over photographer Jeffrey Sedlik.

On January 2, the Ninth Circuit affirmed—in a published per curiam opinion on substantial similarity (read here) and an unpublished memorandum on fair use (here). But in doing so, two judges voted to uphold an outcome they said was wrong, using the occasion to question whether the Ninth Circuit’s fifty-year-old “total concept and feel” test—the doctrine that compelled that result—should survive at all.

The concurrences are nothing short of extraordinary. Judges Kim Wardlaw and Anthony Johnstone wrote separately—and joined each other’s opinions—to argue that the Ninth Circuit’s intrinsic test for substantial similarity is fundamentally broken. Judge Wardlaw called for “dispensing with it altogether,” while Judge Johnstone traced the doctrine’s drift over time and bluntly concluded that “a test that produces such a result cannot be right.”

These aren’t dissents. But they read like a roadmap for en banc review—and an unmistakable invitation to take it.
