"[The victim] advised Wolfe was upset and told her the macaroni and cheese she made belonged to him," the probable cause statement said. "[The victim] advised she tried explaining to Wolfe that she made the dinner for him and the other resident when Wolfe grabbed her."
"[The victim] advised Wolfe pinned her against the wall and grabbed her throat. Wolfe then pulled the skin on [her] throat where she had just received a tattoo approximately 5 days prior. Wolfe ripped the skin from [her] neck, leaving the large laceration."
Immediately after the attack, Wolfe allegedly sat down at the table "and began playing on his tablet."
Wolfe was arrested and charged with assault in the first degree causing serious physical injury, per the Rolla Police Department.

The Monday Morning Stimulus
“Coffee is our number-one selling beverage and for the first time in 20 years, we took a hard look at our entire coffee program,” Chef Art Carl, VP Culinary at IHOP tells Food Network. “We realized we had an opportunity to make it more flavorful, modern, and competitive.”
In other words, the old coffee was weak.
“Our previous roast was light to medium with Arabica beans,” Carl says. “Based on guest feedback, the flavor didn’t stand up to the inclusions of creamer & sweetener, which around 80% of our guests like to add.”
...
I hit a random IHOP location near me for breakfast and ordered some coffee along with my meal. Right away, I noticed it was bolder and more flavorful than any coffee I could remember from IHOP. While those tasting notes didn’t knock my socks off, I would definitely describe it as nutty and caramel-like. And, in what I would assume IHOP would count as a win, now when I think of settling into one of their booths for breakfast, my recollection has officially shifted from “the coffee is fine” to “the coffee is good.”
I have been to IHOP in the recent past (but not before this change), and I honestly couldn't tell you I remember the coffee.

Katfish for Kiddos?
A new lunch menu item in Cecil County Public Schools helps control an invasive species in the Chesapeake Bay.
Cecil County Public Schools staff began serving blue catfish sandwiches in mid-February. At Cherry Hill Middle School, the sandwiches are called catty patties, a play on Crabby Patties from SpongeBob.
"The catty patty is actually really good, said Grayson Jezyk, a sixth-grade student at the school. "I like it a lot."
"It tastes very similar to a crab cake," said Chrisanna Teahl, another sixth-grade student.
The school's kitchen manager said the catty patties have been a hit among many students.
"It was very popular," the kitchen manager said. "The kids that like it really like it."
The initiative is part of the Bay2Tray program, which started 12 years ago in California as an initiative through Real Good Fish.
Real Good Fish sources sustainable seafood directly from fishermen. The Maryland Department of Agriculture partnered with the program to get blue catfish on the menu at more schools along the East Coast. It's part of an effort to control the population in the Chesapeake Bay.
Blue Catfish are, indeed, a mild, white and flaky fine tasting fish. I'm still shocked that sixth graders would welcome fish for lunch.

I'll Have the Meat Lovers with Added Pepperoni Thanks
As if dating in this tech-obsessed era wasn’t difficult enough, women on social media have decided that those who favor meat as a pizza topping are walking red flags.
As surface level as that sounds, women like Esme Hewitt (@esmehewitt) have a strong case for this way of thinking, stressing that their views on pizza toppings are more about a person’s empathy toward the environment and the state of our climate.
In a TikTok video with almost 500,000 views, the content
creator elaborated, saying, “I personally think that if you can’t reduce your meat intake, then you are selfish. What do you mean you can’t just have a veggie burger once in a while?”
She then emphasized how rainforests are being chopped down to make warehouses to kill animals in, and meat lovers “just don’t give a f–k?”
If you love nothing more than chowing down on a hearty slice topped with enough meats to clog an artery, Hewitt says, “It speaks so loudly to how you view the environment, how you view animal welfare and even yourself. Meat isn’t that good for you.”
And let’s not forget about men’s obsession with getting enough protein, which might very well be one of the reasons they order this type of pizza, which reminds women like Hewitt of “toxic masculinity.”

Thursday Tanlines
A new viral TikTok trend has people “carrotmaxxing” — eating three or more full-sized carrots a day — to try to get glowy, tan skin (without the skin cancer risk). TikToker @lisa.alkntra shared a time-lapse clip in one of her videos, showing her skin getting progressively more tan from September through December. Another TikToker @kendramfit shared a video of her tan, claiming that instead of self-tanner, she is “just eating an excessive amount of carrots.”
...
Eating an excessive amount of carrots causes carotenemia, “a condition that causes a yellow-orange hue to the skin because of eating beta-carotene-rich foods,” explained Dr. Corrie Alford, a board-certified dermatologist at MetroDerm in Atlanta. You can also achieve the same effect by eating squash, sweet potatoes, pumpkin or oranges. Alford explained, “When a person takes in more beta-carotene than the body needs, the extra gets stored in body fat and can build up in the outermost layer of the skin, causing the yellow or orange hue.”
...
And while “carrotmaxxing” may help alter your skin pigmentation to a degree, it won’t necessarily make you look like you have an even, spread-out tan like you were hoping for. Although some people call it a “healthy glow,” Alford compares it to “a bad spray tan” instead.
...
Too much of a good thing can have harmful effects, and that includes carrots and other beta-carotene-containing foods. “Excess vitamin A, known as hypervitaminosis A, can have toxic effects,” Alford said. “Luckily, the body only converts a small amount of beta-carotene to vitamin A, making hypervitaminosis A unlikely from eating carrots alone.”

MD Oystermen Want Federal Bailout
Maryland officials say they are gathering the data needed to pursue federal disaster aid for the state’s struggling oyster industry, as watermen and Eastern Shore lawmakers press for relief under both the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s fishery disaster process and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.I've done my fair share of oystering. It's backbreaking, dirty work.
For weeks, lawmakers and watermen have called for help, citing market conditions described as among the worst in recent memory, along with a historically cold winter and complications from the Potomac River sewage spill that have devastated the once-robust Maryland oyster industry.
At a meeting of the General Assembly’s Eastern Shore Delegation on Friday, Robert T. Brown, president of the Maryland Watermen’s Association, called oysters “the backbone of the industry.” “Just about anybody who’s in the seafood industry oysters a certain amount,” he said. “They crab most of the season, but they’ll oyster a little bit during the winter. It’s just a way of life that has been for years. It’s our heritage.”
Brown said the problem isn’t supply but buyers. A steep dropoff was clear as early as Thanksgiving, he said. “When Thanksgiving came and Christmas, our markets just fell apart,” he said. “I started oystering back in the ’60s, and in Christmas, you never could catch enough … for some reason, we got a generation of people that’s not eating oysters.”
Maryland Department of Natural Resources Secretary Josh Kurtz said the state has already begun working with NOAA on a potential fishery disaster declaration because of the market decline. Kurtz described a Feb. 4 meeting with NOAA’s fisheries disaster team after lawmakers and watermen asked the state to pursue federal help.
When the customers aren't buying your product, either the price is too high, or your product is not in sufficient demand. I suspect both are in play. According to Grok, oysters in Maryland command a retail price of $80-130/ bushel, and more in smaller lots, and if shucked. Certainly doable for a party, but a bit much for daily fare. Moreover, more and more Maryland residents are from out of state, and not into to the culture and wouldn't even know how to eat an oyster. I don't see how the Feds are going to make us eat more oysters. But if they lower the price somehow, maybe I'll help.

Palm Sunday
With Natalie Roser:
Ancient wild date palms cling tightly to the soil of the Ein Shaviv oasis in the Arava (located south of the Dead Sea), and to one another. These are not the elegant, domesticated palms familiar from neatly kept plantations, standing in orderly rows and waiting for harvest. Here, the trees form untamed clusters packed tightly along the streambed, dozens at a time, intertwined in dense braids of branches, crowns, offshoots and shoots, until it is impossible to tell where one tree ends and another begins, which was born and which is dying. The flowing spring water carries a pleasant scent, and the ground is layered with a tough carpet of fronds and leaves shed over thousands of years we call history.
This is no exaggeration. A single date palm lives for about 90 years, but the palm colony as a whole is thousands of years old and, according to new research, deserves to be called the ‘mother of the date palm’, a nod to the ‘mother of wheat’ discovered by Aaron Aaronsohn in Rosh Pina some 120 years ago.
The palms growing here belong to a rare species never before documented in this region. They are the original Land of Israel date palms, as they existed before humans domesticated them about 6,000 years ago. Just as traces of Neanderthal DNA can be found in all of us, part of the genetics of this wild palm appears in every cultivated date. At the heart of every Medjool date we eat is an ancient palm.

Flotsam and Jetsam - MN Mob Invades Church, Confronts Congregation
A bunch of Minnesota "protesters", egged on by failed journolist former CNN talking butthead Don Lemon, invaded a Baptist church in Minneapolis yesterday and confronted the congregation, following word that the name of the pastor was the same a one of the ICE agents that had been doxxed by the media. This is a plain and obvious violation of federal FACE Act, widely used by the Biden administration to jail grandmothers protesting at abortion clinics, but which at the behest of Republicans in Congress, also forbids the same acts at churches.
