Yesterday, I posted pictures of a bright yellow male Eastern Tiger Swallowtail. When we got back from errands today, we found this female black morph sipping nectar in the phlox.
This picture shows the underside (ventral, if you're a scientist type), and the light pretty clearly shows the Tiger markings that are usually obscured by the dark color of the wings. This is in the Lunaria in the side of the yard.
At one point, a male in (yellow as all the males are), showed up and was chasing the female with dishonorable intentions, I suspect. She didn't seem to be receptive.
