After nearly a week of heavy rain, due to the remnants of tropical storm Lee, today was bright, sunny, a little breezy, and just the right temperature (whatever that is - I didn't bother to look). September is a great month in Maryland. The main heat and humidity in summer is fading, the vegetation is still in full growth, if a little tattered after Irene.
Today, it was mostly a story of wildlife. There were only a few other people on the beach. A small flock of sandpipers were picking food from the surf.
A large number of Ospreys were out and about, soaring, hunting, and chasing each other.
This smallish Eastern Box Turtle seemed to be out of place, apparently walking out of the surf and across the beach back to the cover on the cliffs. Since they live mostly in forests, I wonder if he wasn't washed into the Bay by the torrents this week.
Red doesn't exactly count as wildlife, but here he is taking a bath in one of the little streams. He likes the water a lot and will swim in the Bay just for fun, while Skye considers wading beyond her chest to be out of the question.
