As predicted a couple of days ago,
a nor'easter off the shore has undergone "bombogenisis" (rapid intensification), and severe winds have arrived. At 11 PM last night, when I walked Skye, the winds were minimal, but by 5 PM this morning they were howling outside, almost literally, and debris was dropping on the roof. We were out to breakfast and the gym early this morning, and drove around the neighborhood, and saw lots of limbs down, but no trees. One house had been speared by a falling limb. The local weather site at Cove Point shows sustained winds to 40 with gusts above 50 kts. The radio reports gusts to 70 mph and maybe as high as 80 later in the day. Using the
mph to knot converter, that seems about right.
So far the power has been holding out, but given the conditions, it wouldn't be a surprise to have a power failure at any time. The good news is that, at least for us, this appears to be a dry event, which will make it less likely for trees to topple.
