False Sunrise at the Beach

The three of us trundled off down the beach early this morning, about 9 AM.  A weak front moved through last night, dropped an insignificant amount of rain this morning, but left the weather cooler and the sky mostly cloudy.
There's that interesting "false sunrise" phenomenon that we see here once in a while.  Scattered sunlight coming in under clouds through enough "gunk" to impart that rosie sunset set glow well after true sunrise.  Note Taylor's and James' Islands in the distance, distorted by the mirage.
It was very still this morning.  You'd think it would be a great morning for fossil hunting, but we didn't do that well.  The beach was nearly empty, too. Ray was down there from opening the gate at 6 AM, and we saw only a couple other people on our walk down as far as Charlie's rocks (about the limit of Skye's endurance these days).
It's no match to Georgia's Megalodon from yesterday, but I had no sooner stepped down to the water when I found this Mako tooth in really nice condition, and a pretty color, too.  Too bad it won't even make the top shelf anymore this year.
Not strictly part of the beach report, I found this butterfly, most likely a Spring or Summer Azure on the driveway, trying to puddle as I was washing the sand off my feet.  It's about the smallest butterfly imaginable, and the top is a pretty light blue (hence the name "Azure"), which they rarely show when alight.  It was pretty docile and let me stick the camera tight up to it for this photo.
