We came back to Maryland yesterday with the lightening and thunderstorms on our heels; we passed through it in Pennsylvania and West Virgina, and caught up with another line of it as we got back last night.
Today, the air is still humid and breeze-less, but not as hot as it could be.
A family plays in the surf. "Throw me, Daddy!" "No, it's my turn!"
The Mallards just lie around in the heat.
Another family cruises the beach in their run about.
I found this small dead Striped Bass on the beach. There was no damage to it, and it looked healthy (well, other than being dead). Did we have a low oxygen event here? I saw a few other dead fish, but not many, and none of the other signs of low DO (crabs and fish in the surface, or gasping). A little mystery.
There was a large flock of Swallows (probably Cliff or Bank Swallows) on the beach near the jetty as we walked up, and took off en mass.
Disappearing behind the dune.
There were a couple of guys seining 'bait' at Matoake on Saturday morning. They were doing well. I didn't examine their catch too closely. A couple of croaker and lots of small stuff in a 5 gal bucket.
ReplyDeleteI was amazed to pass 10 people on the beach at 6 a.m. The dog hardly got off the leash.
Nice photo essay of July 4th families along the Bay, doing Bay stuff.
