Beach Report, April Fools Day, 2012

Today was much like yesterday, so this will be a pretty short post for a beach report.  It was cool, overcast, with little wind. The tide was high again today, so we had to walk around the street to get the the upper parts of the beach. Not as photogenic as a sunny day, but not unpleasant.  We'll wish for days like this in August.

We met Joel at the parking lot, and started off around 9:30.  We met another friend, with her two dogs, and for a while we have a four-pack of dogs playing together.  That's her and one dog from the steps at Calvert Beach above.

The still air, and temperature difference between the water and air made for some good mirages.  Here is James Island being reflected as a mirror image, and a fishing boat.
Because of the high tide, Georgia wanted a plank to help bridge the small stream at Matoaka Cottages.  I put it in place and helped her cross.
I thought the Buffleheads were gone for the season as of yesterday, but I was wrong.  Here's a pod of them cruising off the beach, with Taylor's Island in the background.
For a high tide, fossil hunting was pretty good.  Between us, Georgia and I had 44 sharks teeth, mostly small to very small.  However, here's a nice specimen of fossil ray barb I found.  Click on the picture (or any of the for that matter) to see it full size and see the serrations on the edges.
