It’s a movement that started a few years ago and has been taken up with more fervor and passion every Christmas season. But this season, the movement has gained steam because, according to HuffPo, a pair of songwriters have offered up alternate lyrics to make the song more politically correct, socially acceptable, and completely awful:
The duo, singer-songwriters Lydia Liza and Josiah Lemanski, told CNN that they felt that the original song was “aggressive and inappropriate,” arguing that the listener never finds out what happens to the woman in the song.
“You never figure out if she gets to go home. You never figure out if there was something in her drink. It just leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth,” said Liza.
The couple’s revised lyrics are adorably consensual, opening with “I really can’t stay” sung by Liza and “Baby, I’m fine with that” sung by Lemanski.
Most notably, when Liza sings, “I ought to say no, no, no,” Lemanksi responds with “You reserve the right to say no.”
Yeeesh; as Stephen Green (the Vodka Pundit) notes at Instapundit:
“Baby It’s Cold Outside” isn’t a song about date rape. It’s a cleverly told musical version of the age-old dance of seduction, where both dancers know exactly what they’re doing, every step of the way to an almost predetermined ending. “Hook-up culture” doesn’t teach those dance steps, which leads to lots of confusion and the occasional tragedy — such as ruining a charming and timeless cold-weather favorite. This might be a good time to remind people how it really goes, with noted sexists Zooey Deschanel and what's his name:
Wombt-socho has "Rule 5 Sunday: Maid of Meat" and "FMJRA 2.0: Automatic Blues" up and running at The Other McCain.
Unfortunately, Mr. Fritz totally misses the point, but you can't really blame him since he has been raised and steeped in a culture of rampant promiscuity and is consequently numb to the concept of individual respect, not just for the female, but also for the male. No one ins in the game of friendly seduction as he implies. It is just a pleasant sounding way of saying that one person is using the other without regard for that person's long term self-esteem. It is a sacrifice of one's future emotional health for a brief sexual encounter. Sure, it might be fun and exciting, but the cost is too high for both parties, however brainwashed they may be by the culture. Only time will reveal that which has been lost by such disregard for personal dignity.
