Politics: It's Inflation, Stupid

If Sleezy Joe got a bounce out of SOTU, it wasn't much, President Job Approval. No wonder, because New Government Data Show Real Wages Declining, Not Rising, Under Biden (Based Politics), via Insty, BUT NO MEAN TWEETS, PART DEUX. Star News finds a Corn and Soybean Farmer who Says Americans May See Grocery Bills Increase $1,000 a Month. Insty again, VIA DONALD SENSING:
Jack Posobiec 🇺🇸@JackPosobiec, Current @GasBuddy map of the United States. But in Russia? $2.00 a gallon, and likely to get cheaper as Putin finds it harder to sell oil anywhere but home. Dennis Santiago at Red State, WATCH: Russian Man Shows How Low Average Gasoline Prices Are There

Althouse responds to George Will's "Orange Man Bad" column, cited yesterday, Oh, come on. If it isn't an orange hair, it's not worth saying. "No wonder you're having so much trouble with deTrumpification. You don't know how to use the right words, and you don't know how to take the right actions."

And social media continues it's campaign control the narratives. At JTN, Censored: Twitter suspends John Solomon's account for story on peer-reviewed COVID study, "Tweet links to JTN story about study showing Pfizer vaccine converts to DNA, which appears to contradict CDC findings." Just mentioning this might get me censored by Blogger (aka Google). At the Tampa Freep, YouTube Suspends The Hill’s Channel For Playing Clip Of Donald Trump Denying Election Results, "The content in question featured Trump speaking with Fox News host Laura Ingraham and attributing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine to the stolen presidential election, as well as raw footage of Trump continuing to deny the validity of the election results during a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC)."

So they, & their base, did everything in their power to impose crushing restrictions on small businesses…Locking people up at home not only tanked the economy & drove up prices, it completely disrupted the global manufacturing & supply chain that was in place. You can’t just flip that on and off like a light switch.”

Read the whole thing; it’s tough to argue with, based on the healthcare profession’s pivot in the summer of 2020…

● NPR: Dozens of public health and disease experts have signed an open letter in support of the nationwide anti-racism protests. “White supremacy is a lethal public health issue that predates and contributes to COVID-19,” they wrote.

‘Did I miss the memo?’: Hospital workers in full PPE applaud George Floyd protesters as they march past.

Sundance at CTH,  Surgeon General Asks Social Media Companies for Target List of COVID Skeptics and Influencers

President Biden’s surgeon general on Thursday formally requested that the major tech platforms submit information about the scale of Covid-19 misinformation on social networks, search engines, crowdsourced platforms, e-commerce platforms and instant messaging systems.

The surgeon general, Dr. Vivek Murthy, also demanded information from the platforms about the major sources of Covid-19 misinformation, including those that engaged in the sale of unproven Covid-19 products, services and treatments. (more)

And lays a fairly serious charge against Murthy's wife. David Harsanyi at Town Hall thinks DeSantis Closes the Curtain on COVID Theater. As soon as a new "variant of concern" comes along, we'll have a new show, but like all sequels, it won't be nearly as good.

Atop da Hill, Utah's Republican governor pledges to veto transgender sports ban. I don't even care any more. Once all the records for women's sports are held by "transwomen", and real women quit the sports for good, there will be a movement back to sanity. Meanwhile Transgender swimmer Lia Thomas says she belongs on the women's team, is eyeing 2024 Olympics." The very simple answer is that I'm not a man. I'm a woman, so I belong on the women's team." But, assuming Russia is back in 2024, will they have better transgender women swimmers? At the Wisconsin Spotlight, Parents not ‘entitled to know’

Parents are “not entitled” to know their kids’ gender identity, according to a recent woke training session in the Eau Claire Area School District.

Empower Wisconsin has obtained a copy of a training slide from last Friday’s staff development session. The 2021-22 Equity session on Safe Spaces reminds teachers that “parents are not entitled to know their kids’ identities. That knowledge must be earned.”

At Campus Reform Professor calls parents ‘ignorant racist[s]’ for opposing Critical Race Theory, "A Vanderbilt University professor recently said that parents who oppose Critical Race Theory are 'ignorant racist[s].'"  Increasingly, it looks like public education is child abuse.

Insty on the hassle at Hastings University over Ilya Shapiro, LAW FACULTY SIDE WITH ANGRY, PRO-CENSORSHIP MOB:

U.C. Hastings Faculty Send Letter To Concerned Students. “While the Administration’s statement mentions in passing the pain experienced by communities of color the past two years, it does not discuss the law school’s role in perpetuating the marginalization of our current students. We are aware from conversations with our students of color over the years, and particularly our African American students, that they do not experience UC Hastings as a welcoming learning environment.”

To the extent that this is true and not woke bullshit (probably small) it has nothing to do with Ilya Shapiro or the law school’s late and reluctant endorsement of free speech. If Hastings is really such a racist and unwelcoming environment, its existing faculty should resign en masse. Ultimately, that is their fault. They won’t do this, of course, because they’re not into sacrifice, they’re into posturing.

UPDATE: From the comments at the link: “These professors are backing students who violated the honor code. That’s pretty much incompatible with their position in the university.”

Althouse,  "As the only Black member of the court, Thomas’s views on race and racism may carry particular weight with his colleagues."

And yet, Clarence Thomas has never been thought of as representing the black perspective. For 30 years, he's been battered with the criticism that he doesn't count as the black perspective. I anticipate that people will be saying that Ketanji Brown Jackson represents the real black perspective — finally, after all these years of Clarence Thomas, we've got the real thing. Watch out for that.

Althouse on the "People's Convoy", now camping in Hagerstown, Maryland, "We’re going to keep annoying D.C. … Just make them wonder a little bit. Look, we’re truck drivers; we’re very spontaneous."

Said People’s Convoy organizer Mike Landis, quoted in "‘Freedom Convoy’ spinoff arrives in Md. with about 1,000 vehicles and unclear plans/The group, which is protesting vaccine mandates, previously planned to arrive in the D.C. Beltway area Saturday" (WaPo).

ADDED: Are vaccine mandates really still a problem?

AND: I want to give the NYT credit for perceiving the truck driver as having spoken with a semicolon.

  1. Seems like the CDC, FDA, and Biden Administration are the biggest sources of misinformation on COVID.
