Man Bites Dog

“With Lolo, I learned how to eat small green chill peppers raw with dinner (plenty of rice), and, away from the dinner table, I was introduced to dog meat (tough), snake meat (tougher), and roasted grasshopper (crunchy). Like many Indonesians, Lolo followed a brand of Islam that could make room for the remnants of more ancient animist and Hindu faiths. He explained that a man took on the powers of whatever he ate: One day soon, he promised, he would bring home a piece of tiger meat for us to share.”

Barack Obama, writing about his childhood with his stepfather Lolo Soetoro in Indonesia, from Chapter Two of his bestseller Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance.
Of course, this is in response to the faux outrage that democrats are trying to generate regarding Mitt Romney having once carried his dog in a dog carrier on top to the car on vacation.

I'm inclined to give them both passes on their conduct.  Regarding eating dog, Obama was a child or teenager at most, and living in a foreign country.  When in in Rome and all.

As for Mitt, the dog would have wanted to come on vacation.  Given a choice between being with its pack people and going into a kennel, a dog would choose it's people every time.  Look at dogs hanging their heads out the car windows and out of the backs of pick ups, and you know dogs see traveling different than we do.  Some don't like it all, but lots of them actually enjoy it.  It's certainly no worse than what happens to dogs shipped in crates on airlines, or lots of other animals shipped in various shipping containers.
