New Year's Day Election Stuff

Deep into the silly season between Christmas and New Years, not much of consequence, but a whole lot of amusing.

Of course, AOC and the Georgia Bulldogs Traveled to Miami This Weekend, as noted by Stacy McCain, being spotted unmasked drinking with a colleague. Hell, I thought everybody in New York went to Florida in summer; it sure seemed like it when I lived there. In the usual partisan one ups manship she got defensive when called out for "hypocrisy". AllahPundit at Haut Hair,  What's AOC doing in Miami Beach while her hometown faces a COVID crisis?, decided to bash Ted Cruz for his trip to Cancun in the Texas cold/electric crisis, and Ron DeSantis for, what?.  Marjorie Taylor Greene@mtgreenee "Aww @AOC this is so cute . . .Did your martini taste a bit hypocritical?"  Bonchie at Red State, AOC Freaks the Freak out Over Criticism of Her Vacationing in Florida

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez@AOC

Hasn’t Gov. DeSantis been inexplicably missing for like 2 weeks? If he’s around, I would be happy to say hello. His social media team seems to have been posting old photos for weeks. In the meantime, perhaps I could help with local organizing. Folks are quite receptive here :)

Welcome to Florida, AOC! We hope you’re enjoying a taste of freedom here in the Sunshine State thanks to @RonDeSantisFL’s leadership. twitter.com/philipaklein/s…

At Althouse, Joy Reid joined the fun, "A governor, not governing during a crisis; and sunning his belly on vacation instead. @GovRonDeSantis is the Nero of Ted Cruzes." Tweeted Joy Reid, quoted in "Ron DeSantis accompanied wife to cancer treatment while critics claimed he was 'missing'/DeSantis announced his wife's breast cancer diagnosis in October" (Fox News). Julio Rosas at Town Hall, Sorry Liberals, Gov. Ron DeSantis Is Not Currently on Vacation Amid Rise In COVID-19 Cases. It turns out DeSantis had a normal schedule, and took his wife for breast cancer treatment. But the media didn't report it, so the media thinks it didn't happen. Funny how that works. At Red State, Nick Arama, The Left's 'Ron DeSantis Is Missing' Conspiracy Just Blew Back on Them. Christina Pushaw@ ChristinaPushaw" Replying to @AOC Embarrassing, even for you." Twitchy, ‘Any apology?’ Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’s attempt to slam Gov. Ron DeSantis during her Florida vacation looks even worse now.

Stacy McCain catches Jonah Goldberg Blaming ‘Elites,’ By Which He Means, Everyone But Himself

It ill behooves Jonah Goldberg to point the finger of blame at “elites,” when he refuses to take responsibility for his own part in this disaster.

Having begun the Year of Our Lord 2022 by paying attention to Jonah Goldberg, I’ll now return to my habit of ignoring that ruined man.

Once they go #NeverTrump, they never go back.

At JTN, Federal appeals court upholds Illinois' new legislative maps, "Minority groups and Republicans had challenged the maps as racially gerrymandered." Hispanics hurt worst.

Althouse cites Susan Glasser, who whines "We could not imagine that Trump would become President, that he would sow disinformation and denial about a deadly virus, that he would attack the legitimacy of American democracy itself..."

"... rather than concede defeat. Over the past year, Biden has struggled with his own set of unimaginable challenges that became intractable realities. I lived in Russia for four years, where decades of life under the Soviet Union had taught a cynical population a truth that Americans only now seem to be learning for themselves: it can always get worse."

Yep, her candidate could lose, again. At MSN, which got it from the Boston Globe Kimmy Stohr wonders  A year after a seditious insurrection, why won’t federal prosecutors treat it that way? Because it was never an insurrection, you dope. Before getting to the Dr. Seuss-style insults, let's talk about the two books in dispute.

Someone at Hot Air has linked an article admitting that graphic books about gay underaged sex are all the rage at woke high school and grade school libraries-- will this spur AllahPundit to admit we're not just talking about Toni Morrison, as he's suggested in the past? Or nah? Even National Review has a problem with this.
