Election: Jan 6 Week Hump Day Edition

Stacy McCain, Democrats Continue J6 Insanity

This is Day Three of Insurrection Anniversary Week, brought to you by Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself) who have latched onto the Jan. 6 Capitol riot (“J6”) as their permanent campaign strategy:
. . .
In a related development, “Republican” Rep. Liz Cheney told CBS that “the single most important thing” about the Select House Committee investigation of J6 “is to ensure that Donald Trump is not the Republican nominee and that he certainly is not anywhere close to the Oval Office ever again.” She actually said that. In an interview. On television.

Cheney probably thinks we are too stupid to notice her clumsy admission of the real purpose of Nancy Pelosi’s witch hunt “investigation.”
. . .
Democrats have become obsessed with the “insurrection” narrative because they think it will help them win elections; therefore, it will continue until Democrats lose elections. Act accordingly.

The NewNeo, January 6th anniversary: the invented coup lives on… "But how many people other than the leftist core care anymore?" Breitbart, One Year Later: Democrats’ Planned January 6 ‘Remembrance’ Exhibit Fails to Materialize. JD Davidson at Da Fed, Corporate Media’s Jan. 6 Anniversary Coverage Is All About Silencing Republicans. Jim Newell at Slate backs him up, What I Got So Wrong on Jan. 6 "From a room inside the Capitol, I thought the insurrection might be a breaking point for Republicans in Congress. How naïve." Wapoo, cited by Haut Hair, Fear, anger, and trauma: How the Jan. 6 attack changed Congress. Jeff Lord at Am Spec, The Real Insurrection: The BLM Riots, "The corrupt January 6 Committee ignores it." Ace, in Quick Hits ,"By the way, Democrats are admitting -- bragging, really -- that they're just using their bullshit January 6th propaganda as leverage to "supercharge" their push for "voting rights."  In other words, this is all crude political theater to help them avoid a wipeout next year. Nothing more than that." From The Year of Living Stupidly by Bruce Thornton at Front Page,

. . . The bipartisan ruling elite found the straight-talking, braggadocios celebrity plutocrat a gross insult to their technocratic pretensions and guild “norms.” The depth of his challenge was especially obvious in the corporate legacy-media, which colluded with the progressive Democrats to inflate preposterous rumors of “collusion” with Russia into existential crises endangering “our democracy.”

Even when two years of a dishonest, corrupt investigation by the special counsel couldn’t provide a scintilla of legitimate evidence to support these charges, the Dems and their media flunkeys simply moved on to the next fabrication. The four-hour mini-riot at the Capitol building on January 6 was similarly inflated into an “insurrection” and assault on the same “temple of democracy” that progressives have been vandalizing for over a century. The House conducted a second dead-end impeachment of Trump, and when that collapsed, shifted to a still-ongoing investigation of the January 6 protests in order to short-circuit our democratic process by preemptively disqualifying Trump from the 2024 election.

Anxious pretends to explain, Ingraham, Graham talked Trump out of Jan. 6 press conference

Insty, cites the NEW YORK SUN: Attainting Trump.

By suggesting criminal charges could be in the cards for President Trump, the House committee investigating the events of January 6 isn’t just weakening their case before the Supreme Court. They’re also skating close to the constitutional prohibition on bills of attainder. That’s one of the limits Americans placed on Congress, enjoining what the Supreme Court has called “trial by legislature” — exactly what the January 6 committee appears eager to conduct.. . .
It’s an abuse of legislative power, that — like the dual frivolous impeachments of Trump based on bogus evidence — sets a precedent for more abuses in the future.

Tristan Justice at Da Fed points out Pelosi Is Blocking Access To House January 6 Records. What Is She Hiding? At WJ, House Republicans Turn the Jan. 6 Tables on Nancy Pelosi with a Major Accusation

Specifically, the Davis letter asks Pelosi what decisions she made with the House Sergeant at Arms and the Capitol Police leading up to Jan. 6, 2021, when Congress was to certify the votes of the Electoral College that made Joe Biden president; what Pelosi did that day; and why House officers she controls are withholding information Republicans are seeking.

Jon Swan at Anxious claims a Scoop: Jan. 6 committee requests Sean Hannity's cooperation. But the WaPoo (cited at Haut Hair) has it too, House Jan. 6 committee requests information from Sean Hannity. Pure harassment for supporting Trump. Politico whines that Republicans dodge and deflect ahead of Jan. 6.

Two Kapitol Cops at WaPoo opine, The government we defended last Jan. 6 has a duty to hold all the perpetrators accountable. Ask Nancy why you were thrown to the wolves. Twitchy, MSNBC’s The ReidOut reports that Officer Brian Sicknick ‘died from wounds inflicted on January 6’, inciting the lefty mob with lies. Tom Buckley at Am Think thinks Seven Hours in January Was Not Seven Days in May

In a proper insurrection or coup, one of the key elements is control of the media. If this were a legitimate attempt to overthrow the government, the planners, in theory, would have made sure that only evil Fox News was left on the air, that it had changed its logo to incorporate buffalo horns, and that all other media -- including social -- was broadcasting or retweeting or posting reruns of “Welcome Back, Kotter.” The fact that Fox News personnel were real-time texting government officials imploring them to quell the Capitol situation immediately is pretty much the exact opposite of that.

Althouse, "Working with information from online sleuths who style themselves as 'Sedition Hunters,' the authorities have made more than 700 arrests — with little sign of slowing down."

I'm trying to read "Prosecutors Move Quickly on Jan. 6 Cases, but Big Questions Remain/In the year since the assault on the Capitol by a pro-Trump mob, more than 700 people have been arrested, with little public indication from the Justice Department of how high the investigation might reach" in The New York Times.

Via Insty, toddstarnes@toddstarnes "Might be a good time to mention that not a single person has been charged with insurrection, sedition or treason in connection with the Jan. 6th riot at the U.S. Capitol."

John Solomon at JTN announces Georgia opens an investigation into possible illegal ballot harvesting in 2020 election. Following claims of cell phone and video evidence of massive ballot harvesting. I expect it to cut out well before in incriminates Stacy Abrams. Possibly the DOJ will have to "step in". Insty,"Ballot-harvesting is illegal under Georgia law.", and of course, there's no way to know which ballots they were at this point, and whether they represented to real voter, but I'll bet they were overwhelmingly for Biden. Or they wouldn't have bothered.

True the Vote's complaint offered Raffensperger's office access to what are characterized as detailed phone records and surveillance video it said would show as many as 242 people repeatedly made trips to the drop boxes to deliver ballots in what it described as a mass "ballot trafficking operation." The aspect of the complaint that the secretary's office believed merited attention was the allegation the group had spoken to a man who admitted he and others engaged in ballot harvesting.

Using a tactic increasingly used by the FBI and the intelligence community to solve crimes or national security threats, the group said it bought commercially available geospatial mobile device data showing the locations of suspected ballot harvesters' cell phones in the vicinity of the ballot drop boxes at the times people appeared on the surveillance footage stuffing multiple ballots into a drop box.
. . .
The phone data bought by True the Vote overlaid with video suggested 242 people engaged in a total of 5,662 ballot drops, an average of 23 runs per alleged harvester, the group alleged in the complaint.

The group told Raffensperger's office the video surveillance — though sometimes grainy and distant — showed numerous instances of people stuffing large numbers of ballots into the boxes, some with so many ballots in hand that some of the envelopes dropped to the ground. Some people were allegedly observed taking pictures of themselves at the boxes after delivering ballots, an action the group said may have been required to receive payments.

Also at JTN, shockingly, Madison mayor continues fight against Wisconsin’s election investigation, "Chief investigator filed subpoenas just before New Year's, asking for information from both mayor and Wisconsin Elections Commission." But I'm sure there's nothing to hide.

AllahPundit at Haut Hair agrees with McConnell: It's crazy to think a state legislature might overturn the results of an election. But it's kind of in the Constitution, not that that matters anymore. CNS News, Schumer Threatens: If GOP Won't Pass Voting Bills, 'The Senate Will...Consider Changes to Senate Rules on or Before Jan. 17'. Have Kirsten and Joe gotten on board? It doesn't seem likely. Politico claims to know The election reform idea gaining currency on the right

The conservative commentariat has suddenly rallied around another idea: reforming the Electoral Count Act. That’s the 19th-century law that outlines a convoluted process to certify each state’s electoral votes. Trump seized on the seeming ambiguities and weak points of the poorly written law to try to throw out or replace legitimate slates of JOE BIDEN electors. The attack on the Capitol happened when MIKE PENCE and others refused to go along.

Noah Millman at the NYT, cited at Haut Hair,  Imagine it's 2024 and Republicans are declaring Trump president

The outcome will clearly come down to those three key states — all with Republican legislative majorities that put in place laws making them the final arbiters of electoral disputes. As the counting in the three proceeds, Democratic Party representatives raise a hue and cry that it is proceeding unfairly, with significant numbers of valid ballots being rejected without proper cause. State election officials (mostly pro-Trump Republicans) declare that there is no substance to these objections. All three conclude that Mr. Trump won their states’ electors, and with them the presidency.

Is it likely that Democratic voters would accept this result without protest and a constitutional crisis (and perhaps even violent protest)?

I think the answer is no, and I suspect most Democrats reading this would agree with me. And that’s why, notwithstanding all the good arguments for reforming our electoral system, there is no legislative solution to the deepest problem threatening American democracy: the profound lack of trust in the legitimacy of the opposition.

How could that be? Again, students don’t cease existing when school is closed. Teachers do not remain hermetically sealed in some classroom closet when school is out. People are people, and they do things. It’s entirely possible that school is far safer COVID-wise than its alternative because classrooms are organized for social distancing.

At JTN, Judicial Watch sues FBI for records on Garland's Critical Race Theory memo "Judicial Watch stated its request includes "all records related to any actions planned or taken by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in response to the memorandum, as well as all related records of communication between any official or employee of the FBI and any other individual or entity."" the Judicial Watch president wrote."
