And Butterflies

When we got home from the beach, there was a little butterfly activity in the garden on the Butterfly Weed, Asclepias tuberosa, really a form of milkweed. It's a solid butterfly attractant well before the main actors, Butterfly Bush and Joe Pye Weed, flower.

A Great Spangled Fritillary, Speyeria cybele.
You can see "the great spangles" which give it the name. It's so hard to catch them in a photo that shows how silvery the spangles really are.

An old favorite, the Zebra Swallowtail Eurytides marcellus.



And new for the year, the Northern Broken-dash Skipper, Wallengrenia egerement.
