The weather hadn't improved after my fishing trip yesterday afternoon, although at at least last nights rain had stopped. It was 38 F, and blowing 15ish from the North. Brrrrr.
If you look at the full size version of this photo, you'll just barely be able to see the red bandage that Skye is sporting.
After Georgia took her on a short walk last night, we noticed she was tracking blood around on the floor. We wrestled her down, and found a cut about a half inch long and pretty deep on her rear left paw. We put antibiotic ointment on it, a piece of gauze, and the stretchy red bandage on it then. It doesn't seem to be bothering her at all today.
A somewhat scruffy looking juvenile eagle flew over reasonably close. I also saw one adult soaring well over the tops of the cliffs.
I think there's a good chance that the eagles are killing and eating some of the local sea birds. There were loose feathers, and joined groups of feathers like this all over the beach today. Duck hunters report that eagles like to steal freshly shot ducks, secure in their protected status.
The remains of a birthday party. I wonder if the baby was disappointed or delighted when they escaped? You see balloons floating about on the bay or washed up on the beach pretty often.
Georgia and I conducted a test of our different tooth hunting strategies today. She walked the upper, dry stand line, while I walked on the edge of the surf. Initially, she had me 5 to 0, but by the end of the walk, I triumphed 13 to 6, including this small Mako or White Shark.
A small party of sandpipers, probably Semipalmated. The closest one have a band on his leg, visible in the full size view.
The Buffies are still here. These were across the harbor; the rocks are the south side of the Flag Harbor jetty. In full screen you can see that one of the hens is chasing one of the males (with the white head). Must be Buffy Sadie Hawkins Day.
