#5. Corona has tried to replace the commercial - It just couldn’t come up
with a better idea, according to Jim Sabia, the chief marketing officer of
Constellation Brands Inc.’s beer division.
“We’ve tried over the years to come up with another holiday ad, and every
time we look at the storyboards and concepts we go back to this,” Sabia
told the Wall Street Journal in 2015. It’s so simple, powerful and
emotional. It’s extremely hard to beat.”
America’s heavy use of toilet paper – particularly the pillowy soft kind (@Charmin) – is worsening climate change and taking a dramatic and irreversible toll on forests, especially the Canadian boreal forest, acc. to a report by @NRDC and @standearth. https://t.co/1itcj0wnti
Soon enough they’ll merge the old “only use 2 sheets of TP” with “and it has to be harsh!” From the link we learn this is a campaign of the NRDC against super soft Charmin, and is all about the following petition
As a consumer concerned about our environment, I was upset to learn that Charmin toilet paper is still being sourced from 100 percent virgin trees, many of them from Canada’s boreal forest. It’s appalling that no recycled material is used to make Charmin.
Not only does the Canadian boreal forest store vast amounts of carbon, it’s also home to hundreds of Indigenous communities and to the iconic boreal caribou.
It’s unconscionable that majestic, old-growth trees are being cut down to make a product that’s used once, then flushed down the toilet.
Procter & Gamble has the power to change this destructive paradigm on a massive scale by reducing the virgin pulp content in its products and increasing the use of recycled materials. P&G should also involve Indigenous communities in sourcing decisions, act to protect caribou habitat, and take other important steps toward sustainability.
Please move quickly to ensure that your products don’t come at the cost of this globally important ecosystem.
Because if they don’t the “disposal and decomposition emits additional carbon”. Remember the days when Leftists wanted government “out of our bedrooms”? Now they want in every part of our homes, including our bathrooms. If they want to use recycled crappy scratchy rough TP, they are welcome to do so. Otherwise, mind your own beeswax.
Really, most of those trees are replanted. Loggers don’t want to run out of product, but, these Warmists are nuts.
For a dozen years, Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s have been best known for their racy — and often crass — commercials featuring scantily-clad women with the occasional hamburger.
Now the fast-food chains are trying to reverse course. Their new message, according to a new commercial: “Food, not boobs.”
What's the matter with boobs? A lot of people, both men and women seem to like them. Not to mention babies.
Their newest ad, a 3-minute spot scheduled to air Sunday on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim on Sunday, attempts to dial back the raunchiness. In it, the fictional Carl Hardee Sr. — played by “Nashville” actor Charles Esten — shows up to reclaim the company from his son, Carl Hardee Jr. (also fictional, played by the comedian Drew Tarver).
I do notice they managed to feature Charlotte McKinney hiding hers with a couple of burgers:
A 60-second version of the ad, created by the advertising agency 72andSunny, will run during the NCAA championship game next week.
“It was time to evolve,” said Jason Norcross, executive creative director and partner of the Los Angeles-based agency, which has been making ads for Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s for eight years. “It was time to change. Those ads just weren’t driving business as they once did.”
Or maybe their burgers just weren't that good? Anyway, lets review some of the old ads:
Kate Upton, Nina Agdal, Emily Ratajkowski, Sarah Jean Underwood and Paris Hilton? Pretty good casting.
A San Francisco company hopes women will ditch the Fitbit or Apple Watch and forget about having to use an accessory to measure heart rate and steps.
The OMbra, the worlds's first "smart" bra, introduced here at the Consumer Electronics Showby OMsignal, aims to measure your biometrics through a piece of clothing already worn daily.
"Women gravitate towards wearables, but they don't want an item they have to put on or worry about every day," says OMsignal chief marketing officer Shaz Khang. And "if they're going to be wearing it all day, they want to get more information."
The bra is expected to start shipping in spring, for around $150.
Nevada-based First Warning Systems has created a bra that uses sensor technology to detect subtle temperature changes that take place as blood vessels grow and feed tumors.
The data collected is fed into pattern recognition software, which can help identify possibly tumors long before they're big enough to appear on a mammogram.
The bra has undergone three clinical trials with over 600 participants, and is ready to go to market in Europe starting in 2013. With FDA approval, it may be available in the US as early as 2014.
It seems to me, a bra that spots cancer is a lot smarter than a bra that tells your heart rate. But then, it doesn't seem to have materialized either. And back in 2013 Bill Gates Microsoft was promoting one: Microsoft develops ‘smart’ bra to stop women comfort eating
Another random bra picture
Microsoft has offered a bizarre take on wearable technology with a controversial new ‘smart’ bra for women. Researchers for the software giant claim the undergarment will stop women comfort eating when stressed.
The hi-tech bra measures the wearer’s heart rate and breathing and alerts them when their stress levels are rising by sending a Bluetooth alert to their smartphone.
Senior Microsoft researcher Mary Czerwinski hopes the bra will make women think twice before opening the fridge. ‘It’s mostly women who are emotional overeaters and it turns out a bra is perfect for measuring the heart,’ she told Discovery News.
But what happens when it goes blue-screen? Anyway, that hasn't become a runaway best seller that I'm aware of..
‘We tried to do the same thing for men’s underwear but it was too far away.’
Why would a man want underwear that nags him about eating comfort food?
I suspect you get the picture
And of course, who can forget the Japanese smart bra that only unhooks for "true love". It's hard to date the article (deliberately, I suspect) but since it references the Microsoft one, I suspect it's from 2014
Whoever doubted the magic of true love? In the age of wearable technology, true love unlocks a high-tech bra. Japanese lingerie maker Ravijour, in celebration of its tenth year anniversary, has released a smart bra called True Love Tester that can only be unhooked if the user is truly in love.
And how does this version of the smart bra determine whether or not the user has experienced "true love"?
The smart bra comes with sensors that feeds the heart rate of the wearer to a smartphone application via Bluetooth. The mobile application analyzes the heart rate and determines whether it will unhook the bra or not. "When excited, the adrenal medulla secretes catecholomine, which affects the autonomic nerve, and stimulates the heart rate," explained a doctor in the instructional video about the product.
Why, using the same kind of sensors that "new" smart bra uses, heart rate. So why settle for the San Francisco version that merely reports your heart rate, when you could have the Japanese version that will tell you if he's right for you too?
According to this, there’s this reality show in the UK that’s called “Young, Trans, and Looking For Love” detailing the experiencing of three transgender teenagers (must-see TV, I’m sure). One of these teenagers, Claire, was born a dude but identifies as female. This clip from the show shows Claire going to the beach in a bikini for the first time (she’s wearing shorts over her bikini bottom, please note) and she’s looking for some “hot guys.” But then, they find out that she’s still got the male equipment under her shorts and… yeah… you can pretty much figure out where this goes –
Yes, I know the feelings may not be there anymore as a result of hormone treatments, but surely she remembers being male and young and shallow. Pretty much interested in one thing and sex with another male, regardless of breasts, wasn't it.
But it would open up all kinds of interesting topics of conversation:
"So when do you get it cut off?"
"Why do you think you have a right to have sex with straight men?"
"Do you still masturbate?"
and so on. . .
Anyway, I have no ill will towards Claire, or any other transgender, but they need to realize that most of us are just living our lives the best way we know how, and don't want or need the complications of a romantic relationship with a transgender. Best you find a nice female to male transgender who will understand your trials.
I saw this in a dead tree copy of National Review (my parents have paid for all of us to have subscriptions for years, thanks, Dad!), but I had to go to the internet of get a copy I could quote:
Here’s a new low in Washington cluelessness: The feds say Times Square’s iconic billboards must come down or New York will lose highway money.
Supposedly, a 2012 law put the crossroads of the world under the restrictions of the 1965 Highway Beautification Act — which limits signs to 1,200 square feet. Now Washington is pushing the city Department of Transportation to comply.
There is only one Times Square, New York, the place where the world rings in the new year, and now Google is set to take over the largest electronic billboard ever installed on the iconic, neon-laced strip.
The billboard, which covers an entire city block, is powered by a Mitsubishi Electric large-scale display (the Diamond Vision AVL-ODT10) that delivers a pixel density of 2,368 x 10,048, exceeding 4K display resolution by 15 million pixels.
Located at 1535 Broadway, between 45th and 46th streets, about a mile and a half from Google's New York headquarters, the record-setting billboard measures 77.69 feet by 329.65 feet.
Reportedly, the New York City is in talks with the feds to get an exemption, or to get Times Square taken off the Scenic Highway rolls so they can keep their highway funds.
I disapprove of this move. Elections have consequences, and this was one. Just because it discomfits some in a blue state is no reason they should get an exemption. Go ahead and commit civil disobedience, ignore the mandate and suffer the loss of highway funds (about $90 million per year). Certainly the money you make from Times Square should more than make up for it, right?
By now I'm sure you've seen the Direct TV ads featuring past Rule 5 winner Hannah Davis and her horse. Almost, but not quite enough to make me interested in Direct TV.
But what about their time off? Do they get along as well as they appear on camera?
My one criticism: She should have done more to highlight her bio. Per the RCP piece quoted above, she’s been in the Army Reserves for more than 20 years, which included a stint in Iraq, and is now a lieutenant colonel in the state National Guard. She’s also a state senator, a motorcycle fan, a lifetime member of the NRA, and a grandmother of six. (Yes, really.) Interesting candidate, and solid enough that Romney felt comfortable rolling the dice on her — but you don’t get much of that here. Maybe there’s no way around it given the time constraints; step one is to get voters’ attention, for instance by mentioning castration, and then once you have it you can proceed to step two, the full autobiographical ad. Keep an eye on her. If she wins, she’ll be the first woman from Iowa elected to Congress. (Yes, really.)

As I documented a few weeks back in a Rule 5 post on girls who sell things, Hannah Davis, in addition to being an SI Swimsuit model, also doubles as the Direct TV Genie. Here's her SI swimsuit video:
