A shark was spotted at Beverly Beach in Anne Arundel County sometime last week, according to a social media post from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
In the post, officials say there is not enough information to identify the species, but shark sightings in the Chesapeake Bay are not uncommon.
According to officials, 41 shark species have been documented in Maryland waters.
The sharks are mostly near the Atlantic coast, but some reach the bay and other tributaries.
Officials reminded visitors to keep their distance from any sharks and stay out of the water.
If you spot a shark, DNR officials ask that you send any photos or videos HERE.
The chances are it was a Bull Shark, one of few shark species well documented to go well up into brackish and even fresh water. A few get caught in pound nets in Maryland waters most years. They are known to occasionally attack humans, usually in murky water, which tends to characterize the Bay.
