KBJ Makes it to the Floor

As far as the Ketanji Brown Jackson nomination for the Supreme Court, it seems to be all over but the messy paperwork, and the grumbling. Alan Stevo at Am Great thinks Republicans Can Stop the Ketanji Brown Jackson Nomination with Catch 22 Rule 26, "Jackson’s confirmation is being hurried to a Monday committee vote ahead of the Easter recess. What’s the rush?" But they didn't. From the Wa Free Bee, After Judiciary Committee Deadlocks, Ketanji Brown Jackson Advances To Senate Confirmation Vote Yesterday the judiciary committee met, and held a tie vote (the committee is 50:50 because the Senate is 50:50), which enabled Chucky Schumer to push the nomination to the floor.  "The motion to discharge Jackson's nomination out of committee passed by a vote of 53 to 47 in the full Senate, after the Judiciary Committee split along party lines. Three Republicans, Collins, Murkowski and Romney, joined with Democrats on the motion." Da Caller, Three Republicans Vote With Democrats In Preview Of Final Jackson Confirmation. Collins, Murky and Mitty. It's always those three. I guess I understand Collins and Murky; Collins comes from a blue state, and Murky owes her political survival to Democrats. But Romney? Couldn't he show a little spine? At Da Wire, GOP Maine Senator Who Opposed Barrett Confirmation Says She Supports Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. Reuters, U.S. Supreme Court nominee Jackson secures more Republican backers, clears hurdle. WaEx, Romney and Murkowski make it three Republicans backing Jackson for Supreme Court. Sundance at CTN, Collins, Romney and Murkowski All Affirm Their Vote to Support Supreme Court Nomination of Ketanji Brown-Jackson. Matt Vespa at Town Hall identifies What Conservatives Found Peculiar About Mitt Romney's Decision on Ketanji Brown JacksonGreg Price@greg_price11 "Mitt Romney's last few weeks: - Confirmed Kentaji Brown Jackson - Voted against repealing TSA mask mandate - Didn't show up to vote defunding Biden vaccine mandate. - Accused Tulsi Gabbard of treason for opposing war in Ukraine." Mollie@MZHemingway, "The only new info since he voted against her a few months ago was increased awareness of her “soft-on-pedos” approach, which makes this new Romney position super interesting." From Breitbart, Kelly Tshibaka Scolds Murkowski for ‘Yes’ Ketanji Brown Jackson Vote: ‘Failed Alaska Yet Again’.Will Alexander at Town Hall says Ketanji Brown Jackson Should Not Get One GOP Vote. Althouse disputed the WaPoo, "Republican excuses for rejecting Ketanji Brown Jackson are absurd"/"The GOP won’t be honest about opposition to Judge Jackson."

I'm going to read them so you don't have to. Really, I want to test my hypothesis. There's frustration that Republicans aren't presenting a bigger target. The desire is to accuse them of rejecting KBJ because of her race, but there's nothing blatant, so effort must be put into teasing out the racial insinuations. Of course, Biden was blatant about race in making his choice, but that's what makes it so frustrating that Republicans aren't jumping at the bait.

Jazz Shaw at Haut Hair (VIP) concludes Yes, the SCOTUS confirmation process is pretty much broken. That needed to be behind a paywall? Amusingly from PM, Politico falsely claims that Ketanji Brown Jackson will be 'first Black Supreme Court Justice'. I can see how they can overlook Clarence Thomas, but Thurgood Marshall?   Insty, WAS IT OVER WHEN THURGOOD MARSHALL BOMBED PEARL HARBOR? Politico falsely claims that Ketanji Brown Jackson will be ‘first Black Supreme Court Justice.’ Insty, To be fair, Politico could have said she was the first female black Supreme Court justice — but that would mean defining what is a woman, and the staff at Politico aren’t biologists, and HOW DOES SHE KNOW HOW MANY WERE WOMEN? SHE’S NOT A BIOLOGIST. KBJ: “I would note that I am pleased to be the sixth woman nominated to serve on the Supreme Court.”. — A preoccupation with inflation and crime.
— Exhaustion with pandemic restrictions.
— Cynicism about politics.
— Deep frustration that President JOE BIDEN and Democrats have failed to deliver on their early promises.
— Sympathy for Ukraine mixed with a lack of enthusiasm for Biden spending too much time and money on the issue.
— Ambiguity about how important Jan. 6 should be for Democrats in the midterms.
