MD DNR is still finding and hauling nets with illegally caught striped bass out of Maryland waters. On Friday the 11th, they found 2 more nets, one off Bloody Point and one in Eastern Bay with almost two more tons of fish, bringing the total catch to about 12 tons. DNR is grappling for nets in other areas, including the Chester and Choptank Rivers and off Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant. The nets had fresh fish in them, suggesting that they had been set after the events of last week and earlier this week!
Meanwhile, there is some evidence that DNR may be closing in on some of the scofflaws. DNR raided a house on Tilghman Island and confiscated a laptop computer and a box of files. Another $10,000 has been added to the reward for information on the poachers, with a donation from Chesapeake Bay Savers. The State of Maryland, Maryland Charter Boat Association, Maryland Watermen's Association, Maryland Saltwater Sportsfisherman's Association and the Coastal Conservation Association had together provided the initial $10,000.
