My own view is that this RFK Jr. move may make a slight, but important difference in the election. We are, after all, really arguing about fractions of percentages in the swing states. People currently supporting RFK Jr. owe themselves to consider his arguments, that even though he and Trump disagree on many, if not most issues, the threat from anti-democratic modern Democrat party is such that he his willing to throw in with Trump to save America.

The Democratic Party in America is rapidly discarding any democratic character and is transforming more and more into a fully developed totalitarian structure. Under Biden’s rule, it became more or less normal to prosecute and imprison political opponents and dissident journalists (according to some sources, this involved hundreds of dissidents); he actively and explicitly helped create social support for the assassination attempt on Trump; he incited violence against the people of the MAGA movement in a barely concealed way; and in true totalitarian style, he kept the numerous (and perhaps justified) legal allegations against him and his family members out of the media.

American Education is a Real Shithole

Higher Education Is Drowning in BS - And it’s mortally corrosive to society
. . . The world is always being overrun by political, economic, religious, and social unreason, violence, stupidity, deception, and domination through sheer power. But I have long believed that, despite its flaws, American higher education should, could, and often did stand as an elevated island, a protected reserve for the practice of open inquiry, reasoned debate, critical and self-critical reflection, persuasion through argument and evidence, and genuine progress in shared learning.

Grievously, for me that belief has become implausible. Under the accumulated weight of the mounds of BS, the island has been swamped, the reserve polluted, by many of the destructive outside forces that the academy exists to hold in check and correct. Much of American higher education now embodies the problems it was intended to transcend and transform: unreason, duplicity, refusals of accountability, incapacities to grasp complexity and see the big picture, and resorts to semi-masked forms of coercion.

The most disturbing consequences of this long-term corruption are now playing out in our national political culture and institutions.

Dramatic political polarization, fake news, legislative paralysis, torrents of blatant lies told with impunity, violent radicals in our city streets, scandalous ignorance of large swaths of Americans about the basic facts of our most pressing national problems, some top officials boasting about their sexual harassments and assaults without consequence, international diplomacy conducted through schoolyard taunting and self-contradictory tweets, and the growing frustration and increasingly desperate rage of large sectors of ordinary Americans: These are exactly what develop when even the "educated" citizens of a country are for too many decades not educated well, and when the institutional centers of enlightened learning and debate become havens of ideology, intimidation, and mission drift. With academe in this condition, what hope can we have for the exercise of important social virtues in politics, law, diplomacy, the media, and the marketplace?

This is colossally tragic. But can we even comprehend tragedy anymore? I fear that, in the collective imagination of contemporary American higher education, as with our culture more broadly, tragedy itself is a category no longer recognizable. Compromising acquiescence? Sure. Late-career cynicism or fatigue? Of course. But tragedy? What is that? . . .

Weinstein Victims Excluded from Golden Globes?

Weinstein accusers claim they weren’t invited to Golden Globes
Rose McGowan and Asia Argento accused Harvey Weinstein of rape, which acted as a catalyst for the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements — but they, like Marchesa gowns, were conspicuously absent from the 2018 Golden Globes.

The women, along with several of Weinstein’s other accusers, claim they weren’t invited to the event.

“I can only speak for myself but not only I wasn’t invited to the #GoldenGlobes: nobody asked my opinion about #TIMESUP or to sign the letter,” Argento, 42, tweeted Monday morning. “I support @TIMESUPNOW even though I was excluded from it. Guess I am not POWERFUL or HOLLYWOOD enough. Proud to work behind the scenes.”

On Sunday, Argento tweeted to McGowan, “No one should forget that you were the first one who broke the silence. Anyone who tries to diminish your work is a troll and an enemy of the movement. You gave me the courage to speak out. I am on your side until I die.”

McGowan, 44, replied, “And not one of those fancy people wearing black to honor our rapes would have lifted a finger had it not been so. I have no time for Hollywood fakery, but you I love, @AsiaArgento.”
Rosanna Arquette

Rosanna Arquette, who accused Weinstein of sexual misconduct, tweeted to a follower, “No we weren’t invited. Annabella [Sciorra], Daryl [Hannah], Mira [Sorvino] … none of us were.”

Arquette’s sister, Oscar winner Patricia Arquette, replied, “That’s not cool-All of you should have been included. I wasn’t asked either but who cares! It’s great they are doing it & we will too!”

Sorvino — who accused Weinstein of not only harassing her, but of blacklisting her from the industry for rejecting his advances — thanked Patricia and Sciorra for their activism, writing, “Love you dear heart @PattyArquette, and all my sisters in this fight! Special shout out to my shining friend @AnnabellSciorra whose continued bravery and honesty is contagious and inspiring.”
Mira Sorvino

Argento had a bit more pessimistic opinion of the omission.

“It would have been too much of a downer… an embarrassment,” she wrote. “Victims aren’t glamorous enough.”
Well, we couldn't have actual Weinstein victims detract attention from Oprah's campaign announcement, could we?
