A mother and a daughter were arrested Monday in St. Charles Parish after the sheriff accused them of enrolling into a school and impersonating a student as an adult.
Marta Elizeth Serrano-Alvarado, 46, is accused of enrolling her daughter, 28-year-old Martha Jessenia Gutierrez-Serrano, at Hahnville High School.
The sheriff was made aware of the situation Monday after school administration received a tip that Gutierrez-Serrano, who was on record as being 17, was actually in her 20s.
The school investigated and also learned that the mother, Serrano-Alvarado, had enrolled her daughter in school using a fraudulent passport and birth certificate.
The daughter attended the school during the 2022-23 school year, according to the sheriff.
Both the mother and the daughter face charges of one count each of injuring public records.
The sheriff said the investigation was done with full cooperation from the St. Charles Parish Public School System.
She really wants to go school and learn English? They should let her, and send the bill to the White House.
