Flotsam and Jetsam - Debt Deal Done

From earlier yesterday, Politico wonders: Can McCarthy pull this deal across the finish line? "Come on, man. Hasn’t anyone ever covered a debt-ceiling deal before? Hasn’t anyone covered Washington DC before?"  On Da Hill, McCarthy’s future on the line as he whips debt ceiling deal.  Ace, The Freedom Caucus Objects to McCarthy's Compromise With Biden on the Debt No-Limit, Saying He Gave the Store Away, "Some Freedom Caucus members are saying they'll vote against the debt no-limit sellout, but it doesn't matter: There are enough "Big Government Republicans," one member says, who will vote with the Democrats to pass this." Matt Vespa at Town Hall, Here's Another Red Flag About the Looming Debt Ceiling Deal "Daily Beast reports that congressional Democrats largely view this deal as a win for them and are waiting to rub it in the faces of their Republican colleagues." Robert Delahunty at Da Fed, Democrats Are Demanding A Dictatorship In The Debt Debate. At Am Think Whitson G. Waldo, III thinks about The True Threat of Debt Default.

Then, they actually voted, late last night some time. Jake Sherman@ JakeSherman, "DEBT LIMIT BILL PASSES 314-117 149 GOP yes 165 DEM yes." Capt. Ed, "I hate to say I told you so, but … I told you so. I hate to say I told you so, but … I told you so." At The Right Scoop, BREAKING: House passes debt ceiling deal but A LOT of Republicans voted against it – [UPDATED WITH 71 REPUBLICANS]. At Breitbart McCarthy Says Debt Ceiling Deal Offers ‘Biggest Cut in History’ Maybe true numerically, but there was a lot of pork to cut, and it's only a start. The Murder Turtle, cited at Hat Hair (w video), "Republicans stood united. They forced President Biden to do his job." At Hat Hair, Ben Shapiro calls them Our Fake Spending Debates. "The reality is that our budgetary debates are generally about shifting deck chairs on the fiscal Titanic. By 2053, we will be dedicating in excess of 21% of our national budget to debt service alone. Mandatory spending will constitute 58% of our spending. We aren’t going to cut our way out of this problem by targeting discretionary spending in the main." At TNP DATA: Voters Support Govt Shutdown Until Spending is Cut. "A majority of Americans – 54 percent – would prefer a partial government shutdown until federal spending reduces than avoiding a shutdown by authorizing higher levels of government spending, according to a recent survey by Rasmussen Reports."

According to the Free Bacon, Debt Ceiling Emerges as Potential Trump-DeSantis Battle Ground "Spending deal is one of the first live issues on which the candidates will offer contrasting visions" Trump is pro, DeSantis is anti. At Breitbart, a Poll: Majority of Republicans Say Donald Trump Is Best Chance to Defeat Joe Biden, which doesn't mean they're right. Arnold Steinberg at Am Spec predicts it Won’t Be Biden vs. Trump "The race remains Ron DeSantis’ to win." Nick Arama at Red State thinks a New Poll After Announcement Reveals Big Concerns for DeSantis. PJM's Rick Moran  sees DeSantis Let Slip the Dogs of War Against Trump in Iowa. There's no doubt he has a big giant to slay. Tom Jackson at Hat Hair VIP, notes DeSantis-Is-Worse Season is here already. At the Wombat's In The Mailbox: 05.31.23 (Concentrated Punditry Edition), Dana Loesch: DeSantis Broke TwitterGov. DeSantis Joins The Dana Show.KT at Hat Hair finds There is no defense for Trump's attack on Kayleigh ‘Milktoast' McEnany.  "Kayleigh quoted a poll number Trump disagreed with and he went full force against her on his social media platform." Sundance at CTH is unimpressed as Mike Pence Will Launch 2024 GOP Nomination Effort From Des Moines Iowa, June 7th. Ed Driscoll at Insty, "Meanwhile, at America’s Newspaper of Record: Political Analysts Confirm That Chris Christie Will Eat The Competition’s Lunch. “He will also eat their breakfast, their dinner, and any snacks they may have lying around. No candidate is safe.”"

As for the competition, the Free Bacon reports Russia Pulled Out of Its Nuclear Transparency Pact With the United States. The Biden Administration Still Shares Sensitive Data. 'This is bizarre behavior, and a reckless threat to American national security.' Dave Strom at Hat Hair finds Democrats dispirited by Biden, but hate Republicans more.

KT at Hat Hair points out The small Republican House majority is about to (temporarily) get even smaller "Rep. Chris Stewart (R-UT) is stepping down from his House seat mid-term, with the announcement coming perhaps as early as today. His departure is due to health issues of his wife." The seat will have to be filled by a special election.

At the Free Bacon, Comer: FBI Confirmed Existence of Document That Alleges Joe Biden Bribery Scheme, but they still won't release the unclassified document to Congress. Their counter offer is to allow Comer and Grassley to come to the FBI and view it. I assume Comer already has a copy, he just needs the FBI to release it officially. Michael Goodwin at NYPo thinks this proves The Biden family is under the protection of the nation’s top lawmen. Sundance, After Contempt Threat, FBI Director Wray Admits Oversight Whistleblower Report on Shady Biden $5 million Payment Does Exist
The investigative events took place in June and July 2020 during the presidential election year. The claim is that FBI Supervisory Intelligence Analyst Auten reportedly buried the CHS allegation saying it could not be corroborated, and then wrote an assessment that it was Russian disinformation. However, the FBI investigative team didn’t see any effort by any FBI member to substantiate it. Hence a whistleblower, with specific knowledge of the details in the allegation, surfaces and tells congress the FBI is hiding the FD-1023 that outlines the confidential human source allegation of bribery

Ah, the old "Russian disinformation" excuse. Brad Slager at Front Page, FBI Further Exposed "Another hit to the disgraced Bureau." Kerry Picket at WaEx calls it a Stacked deck: Whistleblowers face long odds of prevailing against FBI’s top brass. Dave Strom, How corrupt is the DOJ? This corrupt... Washington Examiner@dcexaminer, "The DOJ announced it is suing the son of Gov
@JimJusticeWV and 13 coal companies he owns to collect "unpaid civil penalties." The suit comes as Justice announced last month he will challenge @Sen_JoeManchin for his seat in 2024. Ben Whedon at JTN, Biden DOJ sues WV Gov. Justice seeking fees over coal mine environmental violations. "Polling data shows that Justice enjoys a considerable lead over Manchin in a hypothetical matchup." Capt. Ed, "Well, no kidding. It’s a curious moment for this action, no? Especially considering that the same DoJ has been stalling for two years on Hunter Biden’s criminal activities?"

I&I, Defund The IRS. News Max  reads the NY Times: Firing of Election Security Official Probed. Capt. Ed, "This seems to me to be more of a political issue rather than legal issue — and to the extent it’s the latter, a civil employment matter at worst. No one hid the fact that Krebs got fired, and no one really hid *why* he got fired. As an executive branch official, Trump had the authority to fire Krebs, even if it was a bad idea and Trump’s motive was political. We’ll see where Smith might be going here, but it suggests that he may have contracted SpecialCounselitis, a common ailment and industrial risk with this job."

Ace, Grand Jury Report: Environmental Extremists Who Defaced a Priceless Painting at the Smithsonian Arranged Press Coverage With the Washington Post Before Committing Their Crime. "This feels like a conspiracy to me. What is the definition of a conspiracy...? The agreement that one or more persons making the agreement will commit a crime."
