Two armed “polygamist women” dressed like “ninjas” were subdued by a sword-wielding man during a home invasion, according to police in suburban Utah. Police said the two women, aged 18 and 22, were attacking the home of a witness and victim in a criminal child sex assault case against a man the women called their “husband”.

The women “violently attacked one of the adult males in the house who came to see who was coming,” Ian Adams of the West Jordan police department told the Guardian.

“Another adult male joined the fray in defense of the first male victim. He was armed with a sword, and using a sword … and with the other male [was] able to subdue the two women until police arrived and took them into custody.”

The attack took place just before 4am on Friday. The child witness was home but was not involved in the incident, Adams said.

The two women are in custody at Salt Lake County Jail. Neither their names nor mugshots, nor the name of the “husband”, are being released, because to do so could identify the child victim.

Adams said: “They’re all related.”

The future of marriage holds some interesting surprises. As I've said before, with the precedent of gay marriage established, there's really no logical impediment to polygamous marriage. In my view the only trick will be how to arrange it so it's legal for Muslims and hippies, and illegal for Mormons. And just maybe ninjas.

A judge has ruled that parts of Utah's law banning polygamy are unconstitutional, effectively decriminalizing the practice, in a victory for the family that appears in the reality TV show 'Sister Wives'.

Kody Brown, who stars in the TLC reality show with his four wives, filed a lawsuit against the state after leaving Utah fearing prosecution after the programme aired.

Now a federal judge has issued his final ruling in the case that strikes down parts of the state's anti-polygamy law.

The next question is why one would want multiple wives (or husbands). One is complicated enough. However, if a good looking Russian or Thai women was to volunteer to keep the house. . .?

Under the ruling, multiple marriages were not deemed legal, but the co-habitation with multiple unofficial wives (spouses?) was not to be discriminated against.

I've never been interested enough to watch the show, but it looks like the pro-agonist is more of a hippy than a Mormon. I've always maintained that the problem with polygamist marriages would be how to permit it for hippies and Muslims, and forbid it for Mormons, who are not a favored minority.

What's next? Consensual incest and necrophilia seem like the logical choices, as both are clearly victimless crimes.

If two women can marry, why not three?

The world’s only ‘married’ lesbian threesome are expecting their first child.
Doll, Kitten and Brynn, from Massachusetts, were joined together in a marriage-style ceremony last August and are expecting a daughter in July.
Kitten, 27, is pregnant after undergoing IVF treatment using an anonymous sperm donor, and the trio eventually plan to have three children — one for each of them.
The plan at the moment is that Kitten will bear all the children — possibly using her wives’ eggs and donated sperm — but they are open to other options, such as adoption.
Brynn, 34, says: ‘The hope is to have three kids altogether. We always joke that the children should never outnumber the parents.’
Doll, Kitten and Brynn Young married in a ceremony in August 2013, when each of their fathers walked them down the aisle. All three women wore white wedding gowns and exchanged rings.
The so-called ‘throuple’ worked with a specialist family lawyer who drew up the paperwork and drafted the ceremony so that all three of them were obligated and bound to each other .
While Brynn and Kitten are legally married, Doll is handfasted to both so the threesome are as equally married to each other as legally possible.

In other words, this three-way lesbian marriage is not legally recognized by state or federal law — yet. But it would be interesting to see any advocate of gay marriage make a legal argument against polygamous marriage. By the way, “handfasting” is a neo-pagan marriage ceremony, common among devotees of Wicca. (Once upon a time, witches were hanged in Massachusetts.) This story about Brynn, Doll and Kitten is so weird, I’m tempted to dismiss it as a publicity stunt or, perhaps, a desperate bid for a reality TV series contract, but who can doubt how far this fanatical devotion to Equality and Progress has gone?

Gay marriage isn't one of my great fears.  My own state, Maryland legalized it the right way, with a legislative act passed by the legislature, and a referendum approved by 52.4% of the voters.

 I think that society instituted marriage as a way to subsidize stable relationships that enable the raising of the next generation of tax payers, much the way society now seems to find it advantageous to give outrageous subsidies to wind power, the so called energy of the future.  These women are raising children, so they fill that need. I do find it interesting that they have a designated child bearer.  Even among supposed same sexes, the differentiation of sex roles arises.

The stable is another question.  The fact is that lesbian couples (in Sweden)  have about three times the divorce rate of comparable two sex couples.  Why?  Well, women institute the majority of divorces. Two women, twice the rate.  Three women? I guess we'll find out eventually. Kids have survived divorce before.

After the Supreme Court eventually gets around to fully mandating that states allow gay marriage, there are no arguments left to oppose polygamy, which has a much longer societal track record (not particularly good, for the most part) than gay marriage ever had. The only trick is how they manage to allow it to ex-hippies yuppies and Muslims while forbidding it to Mormons.
