Continuing St. Patrick's Day coverage.
This is a song my Father used to sing to us as kids. He was a music teacher, and I have no idea where he got this one from, but Burl Ives is a decent bet. I've been singing it to my own granddaughter Gabby (who doesn't understand words yet).
This version is quite similar in melody and verses to what I learned (it has one different verse, and one omitted. A possibly more authentic, and very different version is below:
