Rule 5 Saturday - Lina Belfior

This week's Rule 5 lovely is Lina Belfior, a Instagram/TikToc fitness wonder. According to her Instagram, she is a graduate of the University of Alabama, and currently a resident of Los Angeles.
There are a couple of gushy biographies of her online, but I don't believe a word of them.
She seems serious and rarely smiles on camera. One thing I know is that she's not afraid to display tanlines and dark roots.

Rule 5 Saturday - Getting Fit with Jennifer Nicole Lee

This week Rule 5 special goes to Jennifer Nicole Lee

Jennifer Nicole Siciliano was born in Rochester, New York, to Italian immigrants; the family later moved to Tennessee.
. . .
Lee describes herself as having "no athletic background whatsoever," and says she has struggled with her weight her entire life. She weighed 170 pounds when she married, and continued to gain weight during both of her pregnancies, eventually reaching 200 pounds after the birth of her second child. Lee lost 70 pounds, was crowned "Miss Bikini America" in 1996, and launched a career as a "fitness guru". JNL, Inc. (now JNL, Inc. Worldwide) was founded in January 2004. Her books have been published both electronically and in print. She also launched a line of swimwear.

OK, that's an impressive weight loss.

Lee has two clothing lines. The Jennifer Nicole Lee Collection through Rogiani is designed by Elisabetta Rogiani for fitness model photo shoots. Lee's own line is called the JNL Clothing Line, which includes gym and streetwear.

In March 2011, Lee opened the Fitness Model Factory in Miami, Florida, a production studio containing photography and videography studios, hair and makeup styling, and coaching for fitness models.

Lee is the creator of a fitness program called JNL Fusion which emphasizes "super spiking," or the introduction of cardio between weight training exercises. Lee states that JNL Fusion is designed after her own workout routine: 4 training sessions of 45 minutes each per week. The workout method is targeted to women.
Lee's trademark phrase is "Strong is the new skinny."
I'd be leery of her swimsuits; they seem to have a habit of falling apart. Or maybe she just needs a good fisherman to show her how to tie a knot.

Some carefully staged NSFW.

Raccoon State Park

As I alluded to on Friday, we took the the weekend to go visit Alex, Kelly, and our grandchildren Graham and Miles in McDonald, PA. In an effort to get outside, we decide to visit Raccoon State Park, to get a walk in the woods.
With a certain amount of confusion, we managed to agree on what appeared to be a reasonable length walk for a 4 1/2 year old, and we set off. Here Kelly and Graham look down the creek which leads to Raccoon Lake. Alex was assigned to take the car to the lake, and catch up with us there.
I found this Silvery Checkerspot (and several more) along the way. A near ringer for the Pearl Crescent, they seem much more common in PA than they are here, although I have seen them here.

Similarly, I once found this Appalachian Brown at the beach here, but it's the only one I've seen until I saw 5 or so on this walk.
Eventually we reached the lake, only to discover that it was another 3 miles or so to the other side. We managed to shout to Alex across the lake (no cell service), and arranged to go back the way we came.
Miles didn't care, and he and I had a good time making funny faces and noises as I pushed him and his stroller back to the start. Graham held up surprisingly well, walking all of both ways, although he often poked around showing us neat things he found, and picking a bouquet of wildflowers for Kelly.
A Cabbage White, the most common butterfly ever.
A Summer Azure I presume. The little azures are hard to tell apart. But it's summer, and it was an azure, so there you have it.
Graham pointed out this weird abandoned stone building a bit off the path.

A good time was had by all, but next time we'll read the directions more carefully. . . .

A Cold Splash for Tuesday

A bit of elaboration on a story I saw on Instapundit: Young Russian ice swimmers take frigid plunges seeking health benefits and a rush
Instagram user Victoria Tsuranova shares photos and videos of herself diving into frigid water through a hole cut in the ice. She swims a few strokes, emerges and flashes a smile at the photographer capturing the moment for her 103,000 followers.

Tsuranova, a fitness blogger, is one of a new generation of Russian “Walruses,” hardy swimmers who plunge into frozen rivers and lakes throughout the winter.
To be fair to the Russians, we have this kind of weirdness here in the US too, even in the Chesapeake Bay.
These brave swimmers swear it wards off not just colds but also cellulite, as well as giving them a rush of euphoria, AFP News reports.

“After the swimming, my skin is softer than baby's skin, I can’t even describe it,” Tsuranova said in an email to AccuWeather. “And the main purpose are emotions! I feel rush, adrenaline and hormones of happiness (haven't got time to search the word in English)!” she added.

Tsuranova also said that she doesn’t remember the last time that she was sick.
No cellulite here!

A much better video here, but I con't know how to embed it. A one time stewardess from Aeroflot, Victoria also posts pictures from fairer climes.

Giselle's Husband Bombed in Boston for Dad Bod

Tom Brady Being Called Out Of Shape After Photo Appears Online
New England Patriots QB Tom Brady remains at the top of the football world despite entering his 40s. He’s coming off a season in which he made his seventh Super Bowl appearance and threw for over 4,500 yards with the third-highest completion percentage (66.3) of his career. Yet, when a photo surfaced of him shirtless online this week, his accomplishments didn’t shield him from Internet users calling him out of shape.

Hat tip to Ann Althouse for Body-shaming Tom Brady. But seriously, who cares what Tom Brady looks like in the off season? It's his performance during the season that counts. Now, Giselle, on the other hand, gets paid for her looks:

Prego Blogger Pisses Off Competition by Not Fattening

6 months
Pregnant fitness model shamed for flat stomach responds to social media critics
Fitness model, Sarah Stage, took to Instagram last week to show off what she does to stay fit and healthy while pregnant. However, in addition to her impressive fitness routine, Stage took some time to let off steam about the hate she has been receiving for her toned body.
Somebody will find fault with almost anything.
Getting ready to pop

As I'm nearing #8months I've wanted to share what's been on my mind. Since I've announced my second pregnancy, I've had certain "Instagram medical experts" tell me what I should and shouldn't do.. And while I find some of the comments hilarious, I choose to only listen to my OBGYN and of course I also listen to MY body. If something feels off, I don't do it! I always do what's best for my growing baby and put him first! It's a proven medical fact that continuing exercising while pregnant has many health benefits for you and baby 🤰🏻👶🏻 Clearly, I have greatly reduced the intensity of my workouts and stick to at home home exercises from my Fitness Ebook 2-3x a week. There are also some people who assume that since I am exercising while pregnant, that I'm obsessed with how I "look" but in fact I'm obsessed with maintaining a healthy lifestyle that will give my baby and myself the best possible quality of life 😊 Alternatively, I don't judge anyone who chooses to not be active while pregnant etc. as it's their own life... I'm just sharing my pregnancy journey and appreciate the positive support from most of you ❤️ #thirdtrimester #7monthspregnant#8monthspregnant
It's been my experience that skinny chicks don't show as much as women with more space.  But she does take that to an extreme, but it seems everything came out OK, so it's all good.

Shamelessly ripped off from Instapundit. Wombat-socho has "Rule 5 Sunday: OUTRAGE!! (Parte Dos)" ready for your reading pleasure.

She Ain't Heavy

Attention, everyone: Lady Gaga does not have a pot belly.

The superstar’s midsection came under intense scrutiny by social-media body shamers, one of whom called her out for having a “pot belly,” when she changed into a tummy-exposing crop top during the final portion of her Super Bowl LI halftime show.
You call that a pot belly? I'll show you a pot belly!
“Trendsetter Lady Gaga sets trend of women walking around with ‘over the belts’ pot belly,” one Twitter user wrote. Another couldn’t help but tweet, “that belly flap though.”

Gaga learned of the comments and put the shamers to shame, firing off a post that is in keeping with her message of inclusion and empowerment to her more than 21 million Instagram followers: “I heard my body is a topic of conversation so I wanted to say, I’m proud of my body and you should be proud of yours too.

And she does take nearly every possible opportunity to expose as much of it as possible, (NSFW link) not that that's a bad thing.
“No matter who you are or what you do. I could give you a million reasons why you don’t need to cater to anyone or anything to succeed. Be you, and be relentlessly you. That’s the stuff of champions. thank you so much everyone for supporting me. I love you guys. Xoxo, gaga”

Her post drew mostly positive reinforcement in the responses: “I thought you looked gorgeous. [Your] body is healthy and beautiful so idk why people are making a big deal about it.”
 Fat haters gonna fat hate.

Another wrote: “You tell ’em Gaga! <3 You can’t bring down someone who dedicates her life to encourage self-worth and empowerment in everything she does!”

Gaga trained for months for what she said would be a “tremendously athletic” 13-minute Super Bowl show that she described “as full-on cardio. It’s cardio while singing.”

“I am going to have to say that the preparation for this show is the show business version of the athlete,” she said in a news conference last week in Houston. “Myself and my dancers have been training for months for this.”
I have to say, I haven't been a real fan of Lady Gaga in the past, and I'm not really enamored of that genre, but the exhibition she put on at the Superbowl was damned impressive, if only from an athletic and endurance perspective.

Ozzyman's Secret Identity Revealed

A debt-ridden student blew $1.3 million on sports cars, speed boats, strippers and cocaine after a bank error gave him an unlimited overdraft.

Wannabe playboy Luke Moore lived the high life for two years before he was caught by cops and jailed on fraud charges.

The Australian treated himself to luxury holidays, an Aston Martin, a Maserati and a boat while living the ultimate bachelor lifestyle.

But he was slapped with a four-year jail term last year after the banking glitch came to light.

Moore, 29, went free last week after winning an appeal of his conviction on the grounds that his actions were not deceptive.

He is now broke and living with his mother.
In the meantime enjoy this Ozzyman classic (slightly NSFW language):

Yoga is All the Rage These Days

'Rage Yoga' encourages posing while cursing, drinking, and listening to metal
Created by a Calgary, Canada resident named Lindsay-Marie Istace after "the really painful breakup of a long term relationship," Rage Yoga is meant for those who are hoping to improve their posture and flexibility, but have never felt at ease in a modern yoga studio.

Or for those who just have a little extra aggression they need to work out.

"Want to better your strength, flexibility and become zen as f—? Enjoy the occasional f-bomb or innuendo?" the site reads. "You've come to the right place."
Sounds kind of like exercising with the oldsters like we do.

Istace also encourages participants to feel free to swear and drink while posing, telling Vice that "as soon as people get into the sequences they tend to naturally drink slowly." Metal music is also often played too, with albums by the likes of Metallica and Black Sabbath spinning in the background.
The head of my Tae Kwan Do style used to say "Two beer, one scotch, good focus!" in his Korean accent. I think it would tend to spoil mine, though.

The whole thing may seem like blasphemy to those that consider yoga a highly spiritual process, but to Istace's fans, it's a respite and a quirky alternative to partaking in yoga as we know it today. It's also a welcomed option for some of those feeling uncomfortable by the generally quiet practice, or turned off by the yoga's less hardcore reputation.
This must be cultural appropriation or something. They stole swearing from sailors.
