USAToday, Meteor explodes over Boston as sonic boom rings out across Massachusetts 

A fiery object disintegrated as it fell off the coast of Boston, causing a series of sonic booms that could be heard in numerous towns and cities across the state.

Eric Fisher, chief meteorologist with CBS News' Boston affiliate WBZ-TV, reported that a meteor fell off the coast of Boston around 2 p.m. EDT May 30. According to a report filed with the American Meteor Society, Fisher's description indicated that the phenomenon was “definitely not lighting.”

“It looks the object disintegrated off the southern coast of Massachusetts,” the AMS report adds. “The sounds were heard in numerous cities/towns across eastern MA.”

Nearly 50 witness reports were filed to AMS with sightings of the meteor across eight states and Canada.

I Might Believe It's a Problem When They Start to Act Like It's a Problem

Believing in climate change doesn’t mean you are preparing for climate change, study finds

Believing in climate change has no effect on whether or not coastal homeowners are protecting their homes from climate change-related hazards, according to a new study from the University of Notre Dame.

Funded by Notre Dame’s Global Adaptation Initiative (ND-GAIN), the study analyzed data from a 2017 Coastal Homeowner Survey of 662 respondents in one of the most frequently exposed U.S. coastal communities, New Hanover County, North Carolina. Just one year after the survey, the county was affected by Hurricane Florence and was nearly missed by Hurricane Dorian in September.

The survey asked homeowners whether they believed in climate change, in human causation of climate change, or in God having a role in controlling the weather or climate. Coastal homeowners were also questioned about their knowledge of climate-related hazards, their knowledge of warming oceans and their perception of the seriousness of the impact of climate change.

“We found that climate change attitudes have little to no statistically significant effect on coastal homeowners’ actions towards home protection, homeowner action or homeowner intentions to act in the future,” said Tracy Kijewski-Correa, the Leo E. and Patti Ruth Linbeck Collegiate Chair and associate professor of civil and environmental engineering and earth sciences, associate professor of global affairs and co-author of the study. “This is despite the fact that with climate change, U.S. coastlines have experienced increased frequency and intensity of tropical storms and sea level rise, which has further heightened their vulnerability to waves, storm surge and high-tide flooding.”

According to the study published in Climatic Change, 81.5 percent of survey respondents believed climate change is “probably happening,” with varying degrees of confidence. The Notre Dame research team also measured for partisanship and ideology with the intention to control for questions about climate change that can tap into identity and prior political beliefs. However, after controlling for partisanship, the findings were unaffected.

“Despite persistent differences between Democrat and Republican ideologies in regards to climate change, the behavior of people from either party appears relatively similar. Neither has or intends to take action to improve the structural vulnerabilities of their homes,” said Debra Javeline, associate professor of political science at Notre Dame and lead author of the study. “Homeowners’ knowledge about climate change also held no significance, showing that providing more information and understanding may not be the main driver of convincing homeowners to reduce the vulnerabilities of their coastal homes.”

Douchebag Boston.com Editor Fired Over Boehner Death Threat Article

A Boston.com associate editor who wrote an article making fun of death threats against House Speaker John Boehner has been fired.

Reached by phone today, Victor Paul Alvarez told the Herald, “Why not comment on the truth? Yes, I have been fired. That’s my comment.”

Alvarez, who posted a photo of the underside of a bus on Twitter earlier today, declined further comment.

His article, which was posted prominently on the website’s homepage “Top News” section for about 12 hours, was headlined: “Would Anyone Have Noticed if Bartender Succeeded in Poisoning John Boehner?”

“The question is: Would anyone have noticed? Stories about Boehner’s drinking have circulated for years. His drinking inspired a blog called DrunkBoehner, and in 2010 he brought booze back to Washington,” the article read. “Had he been poisoned as planned, perhaps his pickled liver could have filtered out the toxins.”

I'm sure this will be a short interval of unemployment. With insightful comments like that, I'm sure he'll find a place at Media Matters or a similar "news" organization shortly.

In other Boston news, fat white female protesters blocked an ambulance carrying a sick man to the hospital in protest of the Ferguson grand jury decisions, forcing the ambulance to go to another hospital, taking more life saving time.

A release sent out by a group claiming to be the organizers of the sit-in said it was designed to protest racial injustice.
“Activists have shut down Interstate 93 Southbound and Northbound during morning rush hour commute into Boston to ‘disrupt business as usual’ and protest police and state violence against Black people,” states the release.

I guess we can be grateful it wasn't a nude protest.

The daughter of the man rerouted was not impressed with their sense of injustice:

A beloved 83-year-old West Bridgewater grandfather has been left with spinal fractures and broken ribs after his ambulance had to be diverted around yesterday’s protest on Interstate 93, his daughter said, describing herself as “livid.”

“I understand your plight, but it’s moronic to put other people’s lives and public safety in jeopardy,” Nadine McGrath, daughter of Richard McGrath, told the Herald. “I’m just so angry. I’m livid. You’re protesting police brutality and people losing their lives but you’re willing to take other people’s lives to prove a point? That just doesn’t make any sense.”
