Seeing videos the Democrats' kangaroo court/investigation of the Jan 6th riots and the Capitol Police officers blubbering and boohooing like teenaged girls about how it was The Very Worst Day Of Their Entire Lives, Serious, Listen To Me Right Now Daddy I'm Talking To You and I had to laugh. I mean, really, is there *anybody* who can't see that this is all just a scripted drama? And we're all supposed to sit there and nod our heads gravely and feel our hearts aching for these poor, poor, pitiful, put-upon officers who had to endure such trauma and abuse. It's enough to make you cry. It sure enough was enough to make *them* cry.

The GOP leadership should've just laughed them out of the building.

But they don't. I'm tired of getting jerked around by these stupid fake victims the left puts up, these crisis actors that nobody pushes back on, nobody, that is, who is in any position to do so. Our side just plays right along.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer tried to pull a fast one in the wee hours of Wednesday morning. While most of us were sleeping last night, Schumer thought it was a good idea to bring up the Senate’s version of the For the People Act, calling for a vote via unanimous consent at 4:00 a.m. It takes only one objection from a senator to stop the vote. Senator Cruz was that vote.

The fact that Schumer tried to do this at 4:00 a.m. after fifteen hours of amendment votes on the $3.5 trillion budget resolution tells the story. He isn’t operating in good faith. The Senate passed the bloated budget resolution and then Schumer tried to pass the voting rights package by unanimous consent. Fortunately, Cruz was awake and paying attention. He objected which foiled Schumer’s effort. Cruz said, “This bill would constitute a federal government takeover of elections. It would constitute a massive power grab by Democrats.”

Here's one I'm just catching up on: "Maybe it’s time to admit that the Statue of Liberty has never quite measured up" (WaPo).

It's time! Why is it time? Is there a "Time's Up" movement that's sweeping up all the manifestations of love for America? No more enjoyment of the comfortable attributes of everyday patriotism!

Here's an excerpt from the column, which is by WaPo's art and architecture critic Philip Kennicott.

The ironies and blind spots pile up. Liberty was depicted as a woman, at a time when women didn’t have the right to vote. I believe this has been a theme in the articles I've been seeing — what my post title calls "anti-4th-of-July" materials. I can imagine that the writers of this material would push me back and say, no, we're not anti-4th-of-July — you're anti-4th-of-July! — because we're for the deepest values of liberty and you're not.

Just remember, they hate you.

If You Only Read One Thing About Rudy Giuliani . . .

saying that he thinks President Obama doesn't love America, read Ace's Rudy Is Right. I was trying to compose something in my mind, but then I read this. As usual, he said it better, and quicker (and without as many parenthetical clauses).

. . .No he's right.

The progressives have a lot of problems with America. That is the entire point of their politics: They don't like what America is, and wish to change it.

This is what it means to be "progressive" -- you want to move away from what actually exists.

Conservatives, by and large, defend the current order, because they like it, and do not wish to "fundamentally transform" America.

This is what it means to be "conservative" -- one conserves, or keeps, what already exists.

Progressives play this game where they launch nothing but nasty Marxist Critiques upon America, agitating for the country to remake itself entirely, but want to claim simultaneously:We love America as much as anybody.

Oh you most certainly do not! Definitionally, you do not: One who "loves" with a long list of caveats and criticisms does not love as much as someone who loves completely (or with a much shorter list of caveats and criticisms).

Furthermore, progressives take patriotism itself to be a the sanctimony of the unsophisticated. Or, as Oscar Wilde called it, "the virtue of the vicious."

Progressives, when they're speaking honestly (that is, when they're not speaking in front of TV cameras), love to lampoon their fellow countrymen's unsophisticated, stupid, and obese love of country.

They have in fact defined themselves as being Those who are too smart to buy into this "patriotism" nonsense. . .
