Flotsam and Jetsam - Trump Trashes Biden Autopen Pardons

Ace, Trump Declares All Biden Autopen Documents Null and Void, "I don't know how the courts will handle this." My prediction is that the Trump DOJ will take a particularly egregious case to try to prosecute, one where it's unlikely Biden had any knowledge of the individual in question, and his/her name just magically appeared on the list courtesy of his handlers. They will file in a friendly jurisdiction (Florida or Texas), and it may even get through the first District Court Judge, but will ultimately reach the Supremes, and how they go is anybody's guess, but they may agree, with some caveats. From the Chronic, now The Social Justice Left Wants to Ruin Skateboarding. They want to ruing everything.

Professor Williams’s theories can be summed up in his academic paper (yes, there’s an academic paper on this) “Skateboarders of Color and the (Co-)Emergence of the DIY Ethos in Skateboarding,” which was published earlier this year. The argument:
Skateboarding has long been connected to a ‘Do It Yourself’ (DIY) ethos. Conventionally, this connection has been understood through skateboarding’s relationship to punk rock, hip-hop and other forms outsider art like graffiti and zines. Frequently, general discussions of DIY ignore issues of race and therefore the [sic] code DIY as unmarked whiteness. This has been the case with skateboarding as well. In this article we explore what the DIY ethos in skateboarding might mean to skaters of color. By attending particularly to an Indigenous and Black experience of skate culture, we argue that BIPOC skaters can bring their own local sense of DIY embedded in their own BIPOC communities to skateboarding. In this sense we argue that skateboarding is not just a venue for a local expression of DIY, but we should think of this BIPOC co-creating skateboarding’s DIY ethos. We argue the need to reconsider the role that racial identity plays in skateboarding DIY and DIY cultures in general encouraging scholars to consider the distinction between those that opt into a DIY ethos coming from positions of privellege [sic], and those that come to it by necessity because of societal marginalization.
Skateboarders should resist this nonsense. In his 2012 book, The Most Fun Thing: Dispatches from a Skateboard Life, skateboarder Kyle Beachy makes the point that skateboarding is one of the few things in life that doesn’t lie to you.

Rule 5 Saturday - Vikki Lenola

This week's Rule 5 features model, and vegan activist, Vikki Lenola:
I am the Producer/ Director for The Vegan Fashion Show, a charitable and educational non-profit event and organization. Our mission is to celebrate and elevate vegan fashion through facts, fundraising, and fun events! Guests can enjoy a fun fashion show while contributing to meaningful, long-lasting help for animals in Canada. Proceeds benefit Animal Justice, the organization leading the legal fight for animal protection in Canada. The event showcases vegan collections from multiple designers and brands on the catwalk. There are also vegan vendors, speakers, musical guests, creative dance, raffle prizes, photo walls, and film. Educational materials are available to take home as well.

These days I am successful with a lot of my work, landing myself and others in high end publications like Forbes, Playboy, Fashion Week Online, Elle, the world’s biggest tabloids, and countless more. Being a model on clothing and product brand websites was once a goal that’s just too easy now. I wake up to paid brand deal offers in my DM’s. I have a large, engaging audience, and I was verified long before Meta offered to sell it for a few bucks. It wasn’t always like this, however. I worked hard and consistently over the years to get here. In fact, when I look back at some of my beginner pictures and videos on social media – I cringe.

I founded The Vegan Fashion Show because I wanted to find a way to help animals by combining what I’m passionate about with what I’m good at and am experienced in. The vision of our organization is an informed and compassionate fashion industry. A lot of people don’t think about how their clothes were made, or realize the mass and immense suffering animals go through. If they saw what was going on in-person, many people would be in tears and certainly wouldn’t pay for it, especially when it’s entirely unnecessary.

Eat a Burger, Dammit!

What's Wrong with Vegan Diets
If you’ve never heard of Vikki Mikkonen, you get extra credit. Mikkonen is a Finnish blogger and lifestyle guru. You know the type: a maniac for bodily purification and spiritual uplift. Until recently she had been selling the virtues of the purest vegan diet.

The Daily Mail
reports on her dietary habits:
… Virpi believed herself to be eating the healthiest of all diets: gluten-free, grain-free, dairy-free, meat-free, refined sugar-free. And what’s more, she’d built a career inspiring others to eat it, too.

And she touted her diet's virtues to her many followers:
As ‘Vanelja’, Virpi is an award-winning blogger and entrepreneur championing plant-based eating. She has written four cookbooks, which include vegan alternatives for ice cream, pizza and cakes, and has 164,500 followers on Instagram.
Though based in Finland, she writes her blog and best-selling books in English, and this, together with pretty photos of her recipes on Instagram, has earned her a sizeable following among British foodies. Vogue called her ‘social media gold’.
Think of her as the Finnish equivalent of Deliciously Ella, the British food writer and creator of the coconut-and-oat energy ball which costs £1.79 a piece. Virpi’s version: Dreamy Blueberry Thyme cake, a ‘raw cheesecake’ made from dairy-free oat milk.

But then, she got sick. Not only that, but she started, at age 37, to go into menopause:
Early last year, Virpi Mikkonen was alarmed by the appearance of a rash on her face.
There were other problems: a bout of flu that was hard to shift; crumbling nails; feeling low; and, most worrying, her periods stopped. A blood test revealed her follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels had sky-rocketed to the level at which women hit the menopause. Virpi was 37 and having hot flushes.
‘I thought, what’s wrong with me? I am healthy, I exercise,’ Virpi says. ‘I was really scared.’

So, she consulted an expert in Chinese medicine. The problem, by the terms of Chinese medicine: failing to cook food was producing an organic dysfunction, or some such:
She sought help from a specialist in Chinese medicine, who diagnosed a ‘yin deficiency’ (health depends on a balance of yin and yang, according to traditional Chinese medicine). She said Virpi should stop eating so much raw food — yet salad, juices and smoothies were the backbone of her diet.
Breakfast, for instance, consisted of a cold-pressed juice of celery, cucumber, fennel and parsley. Lunch was a salad of spinach leaves, watercress, cucumber, fennel and chickpeas with a sprinkle of sunflower, pumpkin and sesame seeds.
‘She said everything had to be cooked, warming and earthy,’ Virpi recalls. Even more radical, the specialist said Virpi had to start eating animal products — daily. Virpi hadn’t eaten meat for 15 years, apart from when pregnant with her daughter Alva, now seven.

Lo and behold, eating animal products has improved her health:
But now she’s given up veganism, she feels much better.
‘I felt I had run out of fuel, totally,’ she says. ‘I was empty.’ She is now particularly fond of bone broth, a bone stock she has as a hot drink or adds to stews and soups. She’s also eating eggs, which is a major departure because she used to refer to them as ‘miscarriages of chickens’.
The effects have been dramatic. ‘It’s amazing. I feel energetic, motivated. I’m sleeping better, the hot flushes and aching in my body have stopped.’ Best of all, her periods have returned. She was so relieved she danced round her flat. ‘I thought, OK, now I am back on track.’

Virpi has been reluctant to tell her followers what happened, because veganism is like a cult. People who belong are wildly judgmental. They will trash you unmercifully if you abandon the true faith and become an apostate:
Dana Shultz, who lives in the U.S. and runs Minimalist Baker, a vegan recipe blog, was inundated with criticism when she announced she was going back to animal products after suffering digestive issues and hair loss.
Jordan Younger, aka The Blonde Vegan, received virulent attacks on social media, including death threats, after she wrote a blog post revealing an eating disorder and her decision to give up veganism.

They are not alone for having returned to real food, and often for the same reason. Veganism had made them sick:
This year has seen a series of vegan vloggers confess they are now eating animal foods, including Londoner Tim Shieff, 31, a YouTuber known as the ‘vegan prince’, who revealed he’d abandoned his plant-based diet because it was making him ill.
‘I had some joint issues, chronic fatigue, and mild depression,’ he said. ‘My whole body felt like it was shutting down.’
He immediately felt better for eating meat: ‘I was so shocked . . . My depression lifted, joints feeling better, energy back in my body.’

I know you are skeptical about Chinese medicine, but a London physician explains that veganism produces a cholesterol deficiency. And that cholesterol deficiency can be bad for some people. So much for the anti-fat brigades:
London-based hormone specialist Dr Marion Gluck believes diet-induced low hormone levels could lie behind Virpi’s health issues.
‘There are lots of reasons for an unexpected early menopause — stress, trauma, lifestyle changes,’ she says.
But diet can also be a factor. ‘Cholesterol,’ Dr Gluck adds, is ‘the building block for all our hormones. Only animal products and fish contain cholesterol and it’s very, very important.
It doesn’t work for everyone. It didn’t work for me. The problem was not being vegan, per se, it was the vegan diet and my stressful lifestyle.
‘Our body does produce some cholesterol, but a big part comes from our food.’
A plant-based diet could result in very low levels of cholesterol. ‘That is probably what happened and why her periods stopped,’ says Dr Gluck. ‘When she started eating animal products she could make hormones again.

And beyond the cholesterol deficiency, vegan dieters often suffer from a protein deficiency and also from deficiencies of creatine and iron:
It’s much harder to get enough protein on a vegan diet, and lack of protein can make someone ill,’ says Jane Clarke, nutritionist and founder of Nourish, a website offering dietary advice and recipes for people with health problems.
‘Protein is the basis of every living cell. Lack of it can compromise your ability to fight off disease and make you feel depleted. It’s also hard to get enough omega-3s, essential fatty acids that reduce inflammation and are usually found in fish.’
‘Another reason you might feel unwell on a vegan diet is that you don’t take in enough creatine. This is only found in meat and fish and our body uses it to help generate energy in our muscles. Without it you can feel exhausted.’
Lack of iron is yet another potential problem. ‘While you can get iron from green leafy vegetables, you have to be very careful about not having enough.’
I hope the parents of some impressionable teenage girl who makes herself sick following one of these so called "food" bloggers sues them for the damage they do.

I Hate Being Vegangelized

But when I am, I prefer that it comes from naked or scantily clad women. From the redpilljew: Coining a term (perhaps): VEGANGELIZING
Riddle me this, Batman: How do you know someone is a vegan?

Simple, Riddler. They'll tell you in the first sixty seconds of conversation.

I just had someone in my "real life" do this to me. Literally met the person and within a minute went off on how wonderful and suuuuuperhealthy it was to be vegan, and how I should eat that way too, and yada yada yada yada yada.

Oy vey. With a shock I'd realized someone had been vegangenlizing to me. Didn't take of course.

So, hopefully coining a new term (and associated terms). If yes, and you use it, please do give me credit.

Done.

Crazy People are Dangerous

You'd think a mass shooter with a name like Nasim Aghdam might be an Islamic terrorist. Nope, just another angry SJW:  YouTube Shooter Angry Over Demonetization Of Militant Vegan/Animal-Rights Vlogs
Did police miss a chance to head off yesterday’s shooting at YouTube’s HQ? Police have identified the now-dead assailant as Nasim Najafi Aghdam, an animal-rights and vegan vlogger with a deadly grudge against the platform, whose parents tried to warn law enforcement that she might have disappeared in order to settle scores. “She might do something,” they said, which is why police tracked her down hours before the shooting:

Stacy McCain: Woman Shoots People, Kills Herself at YouTube Office

Animal Rights Activist Nasim Aghdam Identified as YouTube Shooter
Californian media reported that Aghdam’s family had warned the authorities that she may target YouTube prior to the shooting. Her father Ismail Aghdam told The Mercury News that he had told police that she might be going to YouTube’s headquarters because she “hated” the company.
Police said they were still investigating possible motives but Aghdam’s online activities show that she believed YouTube was deliberately obstructing her videos from being viewed.
“YouTube filtered my channels to keep them from getting views,” she wrote on YouTube according to a screenshot of her account. Her channel was deleted on Tuesday.
Suspect In YouTube Shooting Posted Rants About The Company Online
Aghdam was no stranger to activism. Nine years ago, the San Diego Union-Tribune featured her in a report on a PETA protest at Camp Pendleton over the use of pigs in Marine Corps medic training (via Instapundit):
More than two dozen protesters gathered outside Camp Pendleton’s main gate yesterday afternoon to denounce the use of pigs in military-trauma training. …
Nasim Aghdam, 29, a San Diego animal rights activist, dressed in a wig and jeans with large blood drops painted on them.
“For me, animal rights equal human rights,” Aghdam said.
What If She’d Been an NRA Member? Nets Skimp on YouTube Shooter’s Animal Rights Extremism
So much for human rights, eh? The paper used a picture of Aghdam in their story, which is certainly a little unnerving under the circumstances. Don’t be surprised if more of these stories start emerging from newspaper vaults. Aghdam appears to have had a flair for the dramatic and the need for notoriety for some time, which might explain why she reacted so violently to getting demonetized.

Yet another case of the authorities failing to act and stop a crazed loon.

More crazy, also via Stacy McCain: Mystery After Lesbian Couple’s Apparent Suicidal Plunge Off California Cliff
A lesbian couple, Jennifer and Sarah Hart, adopted six black children. One of those children, Devonte Hart, became briefly famous in 2014 after a photo of him tearfully hugging a white policeman at a “Black Lives Matter” protest rally in Portland, Oregon, went viral. Police now fear Devonte is dead, along with his five siblings, after the Hart family’s SUV drove off a cliff into the Pacific Ocean in northern California:
I've driven the Pacific Coast Highway more times than I can remember. It's lovely, but dangerous at high speed. Ask me how I know.
The SUV that authorities said was carrying a family of eight — two parents and six adopted children — was traveling at 90 mph before it plunged off a California cliff last week, according to court documents obtained by a local TV station.
Fox affiliate KPTV in Oregon reported that the SUV’s speedometer was “pinned” at that speed, indicating that the vehicle remained in motion after it fell and just before it hit the rocks 100 feet below on the Pacific Coast Highway. Investigators also did not find any marks showing that the vehicle either accelerated or slowed down before it reached the cliff, or any evidence that it crashed into the embankment as it “traversed towards the tidal zone below,” according the documents cited by KPTV.
The crash, which killed a family that had once captured the world’s attention, has left troubling questions. Killed are the two mothers, Jennifer Jean Hart and Sarah Margaret Hart, both 38, and at least three of their adopted children. The other three remain missing.
The TV report provides a glimpse into what may have preceded the Monday afternoon crash at the ocean overlook near Westport, California, a small community about 180 miles north of San Francisco. Child services officials in Washington state, where the family lived, also have confirmed that they had begun investigating the Harts over “alleged abuse or neglect” days earlier.
And more: ‘Emotional Abuse and Cruel Punishment’: Woman Reported Lesbian Couple in 2013
More background on the story of Jennifer and Sarah Hart, the lesbian couple who adopted six black children and died when they drove their SUV off an oceanside cliff in California last week:
A woman said Tuesday that she told Oregon child welfare officials in 2013 that Jennifer and Sarah Hart — who plunged off a California cliff with their children last month in an SUV — had been depriving the kids of food as punishment.
In a statement provided to the Associated Press, Alexandra Argyropoulos, a former friend of the Harts, said she “witnessed what I felt to be controlling emotional abuse and cruel punishment” toward the six children.
Argyropoulos said she was told the children had been interviewed by officials but there was nothing more the Oregon Department of Human Services could do because there was not enough evidence to make a case. . . .
Authorities have said social service officials in Oregon contacted the West Linn Police Department about the family in 2013 while they were living in the area. Police referred media questions to the Oregon Department of Human Services, which cited privacy laws in refusing to say whether the agency was involved.
After reporting her concerns in 2013, Argyropoulos said, she was told the Hart children had been interviewed by officials from the Oregon department; it was apparent that each child had been coached by their mothers on what to say; and nothing more could be done.
Again, the authorities knew these women were dangerous; why did they continue to allow this?
This was an avoidable tragedy. Did political correctness discourage authorities from intervening to save the lives of these children?
