Flotsam and Jetsam - Colorado Court Still in the News

Most of today's heap is reaction to yesterday's news that the Colorado Supreme Court Disqualifies Trump from 2024 Ballot (Breitbart). Andrea Widburg at am Think, Colorado’s Supreme Court has removed Trump from the state’s ballot, "Proving that they are a collection of brainless, malevolent, leftist hacks who fake the law and seemingly want to foment a civil war. . . " At Da Caller, ‘This Is Dead Wrong’: Turley Blasts ‘Fundamentally Flawed’ Ruling By Colorado Court Barring Trump From Ballot. From NewsMax, Dershowitz. Twitchy, Colorado Lawyer 'Jarvis' TEARS APART Colorado Supreme Court Decision on Trump Ballot Eligibility on Colorado: 'Never Seen a Decision That's So Anti-Democratic,' 'Absurd.' "So.  Congress -- and only Congress -- gets to pass legislation enforcing Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. Congress did so, and it chose to enact a criminal statute that bars anyone convicted under it from holding any office in the U.S. Trump has not been charged or convicted under that statute. Therefore, Trump can appear on the ballot." Chaz Lipson at Spec World warns the Colorado's Star Chamber Has Unleashed Chaos "The Colorado court decision has harmed the legal system in another way, beyond the presidential election. Among of the most important features of any legal system are its stability, continuity, and predictability." Capt. Ed at Hat Hair concurs, "Indeed, and that’s why even the most ardent originalists and advocates for judicial modesty still consider stare decisis to be such an important doctrine, although not insurmountable. This goes way beyond those considerations, though, and essentially creates a judicial politburo. That would be inherently arbitrary and capricious, as it is here." Jack Hellner at Am Think notes Colorado’s court removes Trump from ballot over ‘insurrection’ charge, but FBI found ‘scant evidence’ of organized rebellion. But facts don't matter. TownHall's Spencer Brown predicts Democrats' Anti-Trump Ballot Stunt Isn't Going As Planned. At Da Caller,  ‘This Is Gonna Hurt Democrats’: Dem Pollster Explains Why Biden Should Fight To Keep Trump On Colorado Ballot. Pete Meijer at the Freep, Colorado Undermines Democracy in the Name of Democracy "I was one of ten House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump after January 6. I think the court’s decision is shameful." Capt Ed. "Meijer also picks on the real split in the Colorado supreme court — the Poison Ivies vs the locals." Hat Hair's Dave Strom concludes Leftists Hate Democracy. Ace, Colorado Court Punishes Trump's Purported Interference In An Election By Themselves Interfering In An Election. Glenn Greenwald@ggreenwald: As Biden collapses in the polls, and Trump rises, Democrats are going to resort to increasingly desperate -- and anti-democratic -- means to ensure Trump can't run, all while they insist that only they are the Guardians of Democracy. This is playing with real fire: and "After 2016 -- first Brexit, then Trump's win -- Western elites decided populations could no longer be trusted with basic freedoms: they choose and think wrong. That's what led to the censorship /"disinformation" regime. Now they're barring the leading candidate from running". At Da Signal,  Fact Check: Would US Sanction Other Countries for Doing What Colorado Supreme Court Did to Trump? Yes. At TNP, NYT Says Quiet Part Out Loud: ‘Defeating Trump is Just the Start’. The Babylon Bee, Colorado Supreme Court Demands Jack Phillips Bake Cake To Celebrate Trump Ruling. "The cake must have the words 'Dump Trump' in giant red letters," said Justice Richard Gabriel in his opinion. "No wait — have it say DRUMPF! HA! Classic. And put some little rainbow flags and Palestinian flags all over it. It is the opinion of the court that failure to bake this cake for us constitutes illegal discrimination." Justice Gabriel then banged his gavel loudly to make it official. "Oh, and it should be chocolate. With buttercream frosting and sprinkles. It's the law now because I said it." Insty, WELL SAID: Colion Noir@MrColionNoir, "If you have to remove someone from the ballot to win, you are who you say they are."  Eddie Scarry at Da Fed, Biden White House Gets Media To Spread Nazi-Style Propaganda That Trump Is Hitler. Stacy McCain asks Do Bananas Grow in Colorado? "Is it a crime to vote Republican? Is it illegal to disagree with liberals? Will all opposition to the Biden regime be banned?"

At Breitbart, Vivek Ramaswamy on Colorado Ruling: I Will Withdraw from State Primary if Trump Not Allowed on Ballot. Capt. Ed, Ramaswamy to Colorado: If Trump's Off the Ballot, I Don't Wanna Be On. Da Wire, Colorado Republican Party To Cancel Primary If Trump Kept Off Ballot  Madeleine Hubbard at JTN reports Colorado GOP to have caucus instead of primary if Trump ballot decision stands "We think this is an absurd ruling and we're going to do whatever we can to protect the rights of voters in Colorado."  Will the Colorado Court now rule that voters cannot caucus for Trump?

From TNP, Trump Scores Whopping 83-Percent In AmericaFest Straw Poll, for the primary. Paula Bolyard at PJM worries  What if They've Rigged the Game to the Point That Trump CAN'T Win?. It's certainly their intention, but then it would be with the next Republican in line too, who would immediately become worse than Hitler. Politico whines How Christie became a ‘monumental problem’ for Haley — and a potential boon to Trump. "The former New Jersey governor could complicate Nikki Haley’s math in New Hampshire, some prominent Republicans say." I have to say it bothers me that Haley is the preferred Republican candidate for Democrats and their media allies. TNP sees D.C. Globalists in Panic: ‘Is Gaetz 2028 Really That Crazy’? At Am Think Alex Markovsky thinks he knows How Black Americans Were Tamed to Vote Democrat for 200 Years, bribery from the welfare state. Not really a new idea.

At PJM  VodkaPundit hears The Left Is Panicking Over Biden and I'll Pop the Corn and Rick Moran hears Aides Say Biden Is Oblivious to How Old He Comes Across. John Green at Am Think thinks Biden's Party is Over… and the Hangover Has Begun. JT Young at Am Spec speculates Biden Is Not the Democrats’ Biggest Problem, "He is the effect" of their policies.

Scott McKay at Am Spec says Poor, Unloved Dirty Joe "A primer for Democrats on why Bidenomics simply doesn’t sell." Breitbart has a Bidenomics Study: 62% of Americans Living Paycheck to Paycheck During Holiday Season. Paul Bedard at WaEx, Most feel Christmas and retirement are Scrooged by 'Bidenomics.' Chris Jacobs at Da Fed cites a Report: Government Covid Handouts Screwed Over Low-Income Households By Spiking Inflation. Crisis by design.

VodkaPundit again notes Biden Tried to Keep This Dirty Little Secret About His Summit with Xi, "behind closed doors, NBC News reported on Wednesday, Xi told Biden point-blank that Beijing "will reunify Taiwan with mainland China but that the timing has not yet been decided." Xi also reportedly told Biden he would "prefer" to take Taiwan peacefully but, hey, sometimes amphibious and airborne invasions on a scale not seen since World War II happen."

Via the Wombat's In The Mailbox: 12.20.23 (Afternoon Edition), At Da Fed, the unsinkable Mollie Hemingway details How A Left-Wing Appeals Panel Is Rigging Trump’s J6 Case Through Bogus Fast-Track Process. TNP reports MSNBC Fears SCOTUS Ruling Could Throw Out Charges Against Trump. “The court should not interfere with these prosecutions and should allow federal prosecutors, including Smith, the chance to hold those responsible for the events of Jan. 6 accountable for their actions,” complained MSNBC. The network admitted, however, that “the federal obstruction statute may not have originally been envisioned as a tool to punish a president who allegedly sought to illegally maintain power.”

When it's from the left. Hat Hair's Jazz Shaw reports Another Proud Boys Leader Heads (Back) to Prison
"This week another leader of the group, Charles Donohoe of North Carolina, entered a guilty plea and was given a significantly lighter sentence than Tarrio, though it still seems excessive in light of what he actually did. Donohoe was sentenced to more than three years in prison for his participation in the riot . . .  Donahoe will be eligible for parole in only a couple of months based on the time he has already served. Like most J6 defendants, he was kept locked up the entire time since March 2021 while awaiting his trial and sentencing . . . So what specific actions did Charles Donohoe perform on January 6 to merit this sentence? He marched with the rest of the Proud Boys from Trump’s speech to Capitol Hill. Once there, he never even entered the Capitol Building with the rest of the rioters. He did, however, throw two water bottles at the police officers. (Keep in mind that they all had shields and riot gear.) Now, that was a bad thing to do and it still technically qualifies as a form of assault, but… come on, man. Is the court telling us that throwing a couple of water bottles merits a sentence twice as long as firebombing a police squad car as we saw during the BLM riots in New York?"
At Am Think Susan Daniels thinks about A killer's privilege "Michael Byrd, the Capitol police officer who murdered Ashli Babbitt on January 6, seems to have no fear of the government coming after him. He has owed the government $56,366 since 2019. He bought a $520,000 house in Prince George’s County, MD, the same year despite his previous multiple foreclosures and bankruptcies. His house has no lien on it. His last bankruptcy, in 2009, showed debts of $1.2 million, which he incurred after a bankruptcy ten years before. The court let him satisfy the 2009 claims for $14,547.  His indebtedness to the government since 2019 has skyrocketed. An accredited business site online claims that Byrd would now have accumulated a $26,632.80 penalty and interest of $11,244.78 for a total of $94,243.29. No effort is being made to make him pay."

In 2022 Elon Musk essentially completed the long process of going from what he described as a moderate who had previously voted overwhelming for Democrats to a Republican voter strongly hostile to the present Democratic Party. He announced this shift in a tweet on May 18, 2022, in which he said the following: "In the past I voted Democrat, because they were (mostly) the kindness party. But they have become the party of division & hate, so I can no longer support them and will vote Republican. Now, watch their dirty tricks campaign against me unfold. [emphasis mine]

 And they did:

  • The Department of Justice sued SpaceX for not hiring illegal immigrants, even though by law SpaceX as a rocket company is forbidden to do so and would be sanctioned by the State Department if it did.
  • The Federal Trade Commission began an investigation into Twitter’s security practices, instigated by claims by some of the many former employees Musk fired when he took over the company and cleaned house.
  • The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) instituted its own investigation into Musk’s purchase of Twitter.
  • The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) canceled a $886 million grant to Starlink to provide rural internet service, claiming absurdly that SpaceX’s service failed to provide the service, when Starlink is presently the most successful company doing so globally.
  • The Justice Department began an investigation into Tesla.
  • The FAA began slow-walking the issuance of launch licenses for SpaceX’s Starship/Superheavy rocket, delaying each license by months and thus preventing development to proceed as planned.
  • The Fish and Wildlife Service also inserted itself into SpaceX’s efforts to launch this rocket, acting also to delay the issuance of launch licenses by demanding environmental investigations even though it itself admitted the launches had done no harm.
  • The Transportation Department opened an investigation into Musk’s Neuralink company.

Tyler O'Neil at Da Signal, Vimeo Cancels Conservative Group’s Account, Refuses Refund, After SPLC Attack. Capt. Ed, "The SPLC “hate map’ is more about opposition to progressive ideology than hate. This is another reason to push back against not just the SPLC but also against the outsize power and control of the Big Tech platforms regarding speech and debate."

Dave Solway at PJM takes on the question Who Is Claudine Gay? Affirmative action queen and serial plagiarist. Even CNN notes Harvard president’s corrections do not address her clearest instances of plagiarism, including as a student in the 1990s. Plagiarism is sneaky, do a little, and nobody is likely to notice, but because it was easier than thinking for yourself, you do it over and over, until finally somebody catches on. At the Free Bacon, Fresh Allegations of Plagiarism Unearthed in Official Academic Complaint Against Claudine Gay, "Harvard's Research Integrity Office received the complaint on Tuesday, detailing over 40 cases of alleged plagiarism."  Selwyn Duke at Am Think thinks Claudine Gay isn’t the First, or Worst, Example of Black Plagiarism Privilege. Alex (Roots) Haley at MLK Jr. both busted. But is different when it's the President of Hahvahd. At WaEx, Harvard students are expelled for plagiarism. Why does Claudine Gay get a pass? Capt. Ed, "This makes a mockery of the term “honor code” at Harvard. There is no honor at Harvard, especially among its leadership. There is only brute power and its arbitrary application. Harvard has turned itself into a disgrace."  Brad Slager at RedState is hopeful The Harvard President Scandal Has Become So Bad It Could Be Killing Off Diversity-Equity-and-InclusionChris Brunet@realChrisBrunet "NEW: Harvard is the Bud Light of academia my debut for @theblaze." I&I, How Do You Spell ‘College Antisemitism’? D.E.I. From Lawrence Person's BattleSwarm Blog Texas Rep. Dan Crenshaw Files Bill To Ban DEI Statements At Universities. "Texas Rep. Dan Crenshaw sometimes strikes me as a bit squishy, but his bill to ban requiring DEI statements at American universities is a step in the right direction."

Insty, at his substack, decries Civilizational Jenga "Bit by bit, our ruling class is eliminating our societal safety margins." “This is the same old trick,” Trump said when he got the news that the Colorado Supreme Court voted 4-3 to keep him off the primary ballot for the 2024 presidential election. Oops. Sorry. I got my papers mixed up. That was actually Abraham Lincoln in 1860 when he got the news that some Southern states had voted to keep him off the ballot. Eventually 10 states did so."   VodkaPundit at Insty, ERASING HISTORY: Confederate Memorial at Arlington will be removed despite GOP opposition. "The Left can’t tolerate a monument to reconciliation and national unity for obvious reasons." WRAL News, New bill would require Chick-fil-A to be open on Sunday "A bill has been introduced in New York that could affect Chick-fil-A locations at rest stops along Interstate 90 in New York state."

Stacy McCain wonders Why Are Democrats Such Bad People?  "Look, I can’t say that everybody who worked on Joe Biden’s campaign habitually engages in what used to be known as “crimes against nature,” but on the other hand, I can’t rule it out. They’re just bad people. The activity that Aidan Maese-Czeropski recorded on video is a metaphor for what they’re doing to America, and they expect us to enjoy it."  From Da Caller, Transgender Activist Touted By Blue State Dems Charged With Rape Of A Minor  At Da Wire, ‘Very Deliberate And Very Evil’: Matt Walsh, Ben Shapiro Slam CoComelon Episode With Gay Dads Celebrating Boy In A Dress. Capt. Ed, "‘Just Be You’ seems more like ‘Just Be What We Want You to Be for Our Own Virtue Signaling.’ This looks pretty cheesy and low-rent anyway, from the animation to the music and the voicing. The weird messaging here is inappropriately political for this age range. Why not just focus on childhood rather than identity ideology?" At Campus Reform, NYU promotes pronoun website that recommends gender-neutral terms like 'Crotch Goblins' "A newsletter sent out by the university’s Office of Global Inclusion on Dec. 13 features links to 'toolkits' like 'Pronouns' and 'Trans Inclusive Practices in the Classroom.' One of the provided 'resources' includes a link to Pronouns.page, a site dedicated to 'creating a source of information about nonbinary and gender neutral language.'"
